KeyError when HTMLFile returned from subobject of main instance

I have a product that takes various 'plugins' to actually provide the functionality for the system. Essentially, the main class provides an API (along with various management methods and forms) that the plugins actually implement. I've based it on exUserFolder code. I want to have TTW configuration of each plugin, which will necessarily be different for each one. To do so, I defined a method of the main class: def manage_editConverterForm(self, REQUEST): """ """ return self.currentConverter.manage_editConverterForm(self, REQUEST) The problem is, I get 'KeyError' raised when zope reaches <dtml-var manage_tabs> in the HTMLFile ('manage_editForm') defined in the currentConverter object. I presume it's because I'm not passing in the correct arguments, but I don't know what they should be if not what I've got. Anyone with enlightenment? tim

Installed on Zope 2.5.1 fails with an attribute error in folderAdd.dtml executing in NoBabelTag.py (lines 17 and 22). Anyone else using this product and seeing this error? -dra

dtml-tree with multiple objects

Navigation for a site I have in progress uses dtml-tree to build it's left index. The left index display, as designed, will include tree's derived from several objects (call them A, B, and C). The particular objects and the number of objects will vary depending where the user is in the site. dtml-tree is limited to a single tree per page, presumably because it uses a cookie to store the expansion state. So, the question is, how to implement this scheme. My current thought is to create a Product which wraps the various objects to be displayed and implements tpValues and the like for the collection. dtml-tree applied to an instance of the Product would have the properties I want (or so I believe). A search for an existing product of this sort has turned up nothing. Anyone have pointers to a product or experience trying to do this? -dra

Python 2.1.3 & Zope 2.4.0

Hi all I've just updated Python 2.1.1 to 2.1.3 on my production system (after my tests on the trial server were successfuly done). Then I probably lost 3 jears of my lifespan. Nothing seemed to work. By now I've got the server started but am experiencing serious problems in stability and get sporadic errors on some pages. Does anyone know if Zope 2.4.0 and Python 2.1.3 has been tested somewhere?! I'll now upgrade to Zope 2.4.4 but expect even more problems from that upgraden. I'll keep you posted if it solves my problem. Oliver Erlewein

Argument passing and DTMLFile methods

Hi all, First of all, thanks to Dieter Maurer, Charles Riemann, Michel Bencur, and Joachim Werner for help on the last couple of headaches on this project! I am getting really close to releasing this sucker, but ... ;-) Next up is how to properly pass implicit arguments to a class-method created by DTMLFile. This probably requires some explanation, though ... I'm converting a prototype of the product which I developed through the web. The presentation layer is fairly large. In it, I have a few instances of explicit DTMLMethod calls, like this: <dtml-var expr="mydtmlmethod(_.None, _, explicitarg=explicitval)"> This syntax is based on the note in the back of the Zope Book on the equivalent explicit call to a DTMLMethod. E.g., it claims that: <dtml-var expr="mydtmlmethod(_.None, _)"> is equivalent to <dtml-var mydtmlmethod> And, in the "through-the-web" prototype, this is apparently true. (That is, I have verified it experimentally). However, I am now trying to make the prototype into a product, and I want these DTML methods to act similarly to their Python method counterparts (NOT python scripts -- I have converted the scripts to product class methods, which become object methods when an instance of the object is created in Zope). So far, I've used SQL(), ImageFile(), and DTMLFile() to successfully convert ZSQL methods, images, and DTML methods over to the same sort of usage as I have with Python: from Globals import ImageFile from Globals import DTMLFile from Products.ZSQLMethods.SQL import SQL dbc = database_connection_object # Defined elsewhere class MyClass(Folder): meta_type = "my_class" def python_method(self, ...): #... python code adapted from python script ... # container/context converted to self, etc. # Naturally, this works just fine, as this # this is the stuff that's well-documented pass zsql_method = SQL('zsql_method', '', dbc, args, zsql_code) # Works perfectly dtml_method = DTMLFile('dtml/mydtmlmethod', globals(), document_id='mydtmlmethod') # Works great for implicit DTML usages. Variables, # acquisition, etc, all seem to work. image_data = ImageFile('www/myimage', globals()) # A little weird, because this is the actual # image data, not the Zope image object, but # still very usable. Basically, I can't # use "tag" or "absolute_url", but I can # access it via a URL. I wasn't certain this would work, since this is different from containing these objects within the folder (which can be done either by manage_addMyClass() or MyClass.__init__()). However, so far, it works pretty well -- DTML methods are able to find each other and include subsets, pass implicit variables, etc. They can be accessed by URL: MyClassInstance/dtml_method and acquisition works on them as expected. They exist for all instances of the object, and if the methods are altered, I only have to restart Zope to propagate the change to all instances. (I.e. I don't have to delete and re-add the instances). Furthermore, they are hidden from the management interface, and are thus "read-only". Great! This is all exactly what I want -- I'm freezing the prototype into a fixed product. Changes now have to be made to the product source code to take effect. This greatly reduces the hazard of accidently screwing up the product when you're trying to administrate it. The idea is that only objects which the administrator would need to alter are made available through the web. In short, they have all the properties of ordinary python class methods. So I'm not sure if this meets "best practice standards", but it seems like a very natural solution. I was beginning to be really happy about how smooth this was all going -- I could even get the correct context in included DTML methods. "Wow!" I thought, "this Zope thing is really coming together..." (and "I might actually make that July 1st date") EXCEPT... :-( This only works if I use *implicit* dtml-var substitutions, like: <dtml-var mydtml_submethod> If I try to use the explicit form mentioned above, <dtml-var expr="mydtml_submethod(_.None, _)"> I lose my context! I can see variables passed by keywords, but not the implicit ones. They were visible in the implicit form, but not the explicit one. Ack! Ironic, isn't it? You'd think I might have to be *more* explicit in this situation. My guess is that I've somehow chosen the wrong thing to pass to this method (perhaps "_" doesn't mean anything in this context?). Presumeably, Zope is doing the right thing for implicit references, but I can't figure out what that is. (This is *after* "reading the source". Some of the source is quite readable, but the DTML publishing parts are pretty hairy stuff!). For one thing, I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between my DTMLFile object and a DTML Method or DTML Document (it seems like it can't actually be either of those, but something related). I have the frustrating feeling that a simple answer exists for this, but that I'm just not seeing it, so I'm hoping this will seem obvious to somebody. If there's no other way around it, I can probably work-around this with dtml-let and passing all variables implicitly, or by sticking huge lists of variables in as keywords, but these are ugly solutions, and it seems like they ought to be unnecessary. Thanks in advance for any ideas. We *are* very close to release if this conversion process can be made to work (the prototype, while basically working, is not up to production use for a lot of reasons -- we think it will significantly benefit from being converted into a Product). URLSessionAdapter and SiteRoot

Hi! I've a weird problem with the combination of an URLSessionAdapter and SiteRoot: In a folder with an URLSessionAdapter I can't use the management Interface, since there seems to be a 'rewriting loop' with news sessions, ending in an 'URL to long error' To illustrate the problem a snippet from the URL from apaches logfile: /NLAAdmin/NLAOverview/48655453A0WSQ3E4dzs/pt_editForm/NLAOverview/09137742A0WSQ3HmyLM/NLAAdmin/NLAOverview/pt_editForm/ ...... What's going wrong here and how can I fix this?

adding properties and getting roles in python

Hi Folks, Part of the Zope site I am trying to develop involves collecting and storing membership information. I have run into a couple of snags, though. I have a form for adding users that calls a python script. The script is responsible for creating the user in acl_users, creating a personal folder for the user, and setting properties on the folder. So the code looks like this: context.acl_users.userFolderAddUser(username, pass, roles, 0) context.user_folders.manage_addFolder(username,'',0,0) context.user_folders.username.manage_addProperty('First Name', fname, 'string') The problem is with the third line. When the script is called I get an AttributeError on username. I believe this is because username is a variable containing the actual name of the folder. The interpreter doesn't know this and I can't figure out how to tell it. I have looked through the Zope API documentation and I haven't been able to find a function analagous to getObject(id=None) or some such thing. My second problem involves listing the roles of a user in acl_users. I execute the following code: context.acl_users.getUser('test').getRoles() and I get a list back. But the list contains "Authenticated" in addition to the actual roles of the user. I haven't logged in as this user, I am running the script as the Manager user (admin), so getRoles() shouldn't return "Authenticated" right? Does anybody know what is going on with and/or how to solve either of these problems? -Chris

sessions and zsql methods again!

Hi, I want to "SELECT CAR,MOTOR,VENDOR FROM TBL_CAR WHERE CAR_ID=<dtml-sqlvar intCarId>" (note the suave lezynsky-reddick namings!) - and get that into a list of dicts, so I can then output it all in a dtml-in with sequence iteration parameters. Would this be something like session=context.REQUEST.SESSION ld=[] ld=qryGetCarInfo(car_id=session['car_id']) for x in ld: entry={} entry["car"]=x[0] entry["motor"]=x[1] entry["vendor"]=x[2] ld.append(entry) session['dbgrabs']=ld It's a lot of data I need to grab in about 14 different queries... I'm using the SESSION namespace to hold the values, so I'm thinking of grabbing all these values from the database before I generate individual output pages("loading... please wait"), or even better, somehow grabbing them a little at a time as the user browses the pages, and deleting the info at the end of a session, or when another CAR_ID is accessed. I know the session stuff doesn't have a guide yet, and there's no one answer to all this, but I thought posting here might be a source of helpful tips, and there might be others who are doing this kind of thing too. Are there any gotchas I should know about? Can I for example, somehow commit information as it's gathered, or do I have to build loops that store the info and set a boolean value at the end, to give a little hope that the info has been gathered?
