I am looking for documentation about "SecurityManager.validate" (or "ZopeSecurityPolicy.validate", which is almost the same). Why do we get three outcomes: "return 1", "return 0" and "raise Unauthorized"? I would expect just the two returns and no exception. The source documentation for the "raise Unauthorized" is simply incomprehensible for me. What are "accessed" and "container" (in contrast to one another)? Again, the source documentation does not give me a precise understanding. Why is it bad when "aq_base(accessed) is aq_base(container)"? This seems to indicate, that under certain conditions "accessed" and "container" must not be the same, why? When can I omit some of the "validate" arguments? Dieter

menu items based on user roles

I have a simple DTML tool that lists objectValues from the current folder to generate a menu. I would like this menu to display only items that the user has permission to see. I want the process to be transparent to the user. It seems to me that I read about an easy way to do this. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks Jacob Behm

Rendering the server root directory

Hello All, The rendering of the root directory takes forever. If I request http://URL:8080/manage it takes almost 30 seconds to a minute to render. If I manage_menu or manage_workspace then it responds a little faster. If I access any folder under root the response is instantanous. I am looking at the stupid, error and the request logs but they are providing anything unusual. I am using Zope 2.5, Python 2.1.3 on RedHat Linux. What is the best method on troubleshooting this problem. Thanks for you help

zubb context of _[id]

I'm converting the main ZUBB index_html to be a Page Template instead of dtml and mostly everything work. Where is breaks is in a few calls like, <dtml-var "_[id].threadMessageCount()"> For the life of me I cannot figure out what the context of this is in order to convert it. We're in a <dtml-in> body, and I have the tal:repeat working fine, but nothing like, tal:replace="container/item/threadMessageCount" works, always failing with getattr because I have the context wrong. Using CVS with Zope

Hi, I'm new to CVS and we've been told at my work that from now on everything should go in CVS: even the images, html and dtml files I work on in Zope. I use ExternalEditor to do edits, so pretty much everything I edit goes into my /tmp dir when I update it, and maybe there's a way to do CVS updates based on files in here, by writing some little script to copy these files to a cvs directory whenever they are updated. This is the way I was thinking of going: first: mkdir myzopedir wget -r ftp://username:password@zopeserver.com cvs import myzopedir then when making edits cvs update * (check them, fix if necessary) cvs commit individual files But maybe someone else already does this, or there might be a product to help? I get this error whenever I click on the "Security" Tab at the Root Folder. This happenened right after I created a new role, and saved my changes. Next thing I knew, no more getting to the security tab. can supress +/- sign in dtml-tree?

<color><param>0100,0100,0100</param>Hello All, I want to display a dtml-tree always expanded, with no controls visible for contracting (basically, an indented list of links). I set the tree to always expand via the following: <<dtml-call "REQUEST.set('expand_all',_.int(1))"> <<dtml-tree avc branches_expr="objectValues(['Folder','DTML Document'])" sort=id> .......... But I don't want the minus signs to appear. This question was asked to the group previously, but could not locate an answer. Does anyone know how to do it? Tom Germaine

YIHAW latest file list

The code was already in the YIHAW product (control panels) I modified it for look and feel. ZopeTime()-2, gives the range to pull from catalog. NOTE: It blew up after 20 days. I did not investigate since I only needed 2 days worth. <dtml-unless "meta_type in ['DTML Method','Image','DTML Document','Yihaw Folder']"> line ignores listed meta_types. I only wanted Yihaw objects visable. Thanks for the help. Zope won't compile
