I am writing a section in a matlab guide on strings, using structured text. strings in matlab must be indicated by single quotes, as in x = 'My name', not x = "My name" I need to tell the structured text renderer to display the single quote. I have tried such shenanigans as ''file1a.dat'', 'file1b.dat', "'file2.dat'". The last one preserves the single quotes but also displays the double quotes, which doesn't really work either. Any suggestions? I can always fall back on the :: code environment.... Thanks, John Hunter

Acquire Permission

Hi everyone, I have a small question. I hope someone can help me. I have an interface to the security management screen in Zope from my product. Basically, I have created some mappinds of permissions and this form allows users to change the security settings from this form. It also has a checkbox for acquiring the permissions for a particular permission name (ex. view). Everything works very well. However, I would like to show (if the acquire permission is checked), a sort of permission tree. Basically, just showing what permissions are acquired from what parent objects. Anyone knows how to get the parent objects (from the top layer) and their permission settings from a page template or a python script. I do not necessarily need a full code or something. A nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this. tables in DTML methods interpreted with fmt=structured-text

Hi there, I was interested in reading about the new formatting for expressing tables in structured text. I'm having problems getting tables in structure text to work at all - still. I'm using Zope 2.5.1, and found the structured text Python module and the documentation that was mentioned earlier, so I'm pretty sure it's the right version (earlier I was using 2.5.0, if that makes any difference). My site stores text in a DTML method, then displays it within a page using <dtml-var TheTextObject fmt=structured-text>. Structured Text in general seems to work, putting in paragraph tags where there are blank lines, handing **strong** and *emphasized* text, etc. - but the tables don't seem to be working. For example, this: |-----------------------------------------------------------| | Your **name**: | <input name="sender_name"> | |-----------------------------------------------------------| | Your **e-mail**: | <input name="sender_email"> | |-----------------------------------------------------------| | Your **comment**: | <textarea name="sender_comment"> | | | </textarea> | |-----------------------------------------------------------| renders with the three label words in <strong> tags, but the dashes and pipe characters are right there in the output HTML. This is all inside <Form> and </form> tags, although I can't imagine that making a difference. Is "fmt=structured-text" not the same as the structured text I'm thinking of? Where have I gone wrong? Programmatically adding my product

Hey All, I have a product, MyProduct, and am not able to add it programmatically. For Example.. inside a python script I do: folder_id = "yada" folder_obj = getattr( container, folder_id ) folder_obj.manage_addMyProduct( id, title, etc ) This raises an AttributError with value of 'manage_addMyProduct'. I can add/edit/view my product from the ZMI without any problem. I'm stumped, could someone help? I have no idea what direction to pursue on this one. Damon.

DTMLFile question

Hi, I'm trying my hands on a Zope product. The different `views' are to be rendered with the help of dtml files, thus the class definition looks something like: |class CMSResource( Traversable.Traversable, ...) | "Yadda, yadda" | | ... | | manage_main = DTMLFile("dtml/CMSResource/main", globals()) | manage_edit = DTMLFile("dtml/CMSResource/edit", globals()) | | def __init__(self, resource): | ... So I can call on <a CMS resource>/manage_main and I get this view, etc. The dtml/CMSResource/ directory is of course a directory delivered with the product, it is ``part of'' the product, so to say. Now I'd like to be lazy and try to fetch the views `as needed', instead of declaring them as DTML class methods. Is that possible? What I have in mind is a method |class CMSResource( Traversable.Traversable, ...) | "Yadda, yadda" | | ... | | def render(name, args): | my d = DTMLFile("dtml/CMSResource/" + name) | return <<call d with appropriate arguments>> enriched of course with error checking, caching of things and all that. Whatever I've tried failed because of --as I understand-- acquisition issues (the object returned by calling on d, like d(self, self.REQUEST) is expected to have an aq_parent and the like somewhere in the innards of Zope. My understanding of Zope is not as deep as to have an idea whether what I'm trying is possible (or rather: sensible). Any hints? Thanks, -- tomas

Generic Content Object for use with Page Templates

I've been using Zope for a while now, and I'm a little miffed that I don't really know the answer to this. Having finally succumbed to the preachings of the 'Withers Church of the Page Template', I thought I'd give them a shot for a site I'm building. So, I've got myself setup up with and index_html page template that I want to use to present the content of my site. Obviously, I could use more zpts to hold my content, but I don't really like that idea coz I just want to store the 'meat in the sandwich' (of standard_html_header/footer as it was) - zpts seem overkill and potentially a little confusing for naive users. http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ZPT.stx#2-90 mentions that this is not appropriate and mentions some alternative content objects. However, it says CMF solves this issue - and I'm not using CMF, so... I could use DTML Documents, but I don't want the user to be able to write DTML really, and recent posts, coupled with ChrisMcD's 2.6 Edition Zope Book lead me to believe that way lies the dark side. DTML Methods clearly aren't right. I want properties anyway. STX - haven't used it but it looks like it could be handy. Still, I want my users to be able to bash out some html when editing. Files - may be appropriate as they can just store text and can be edited through the ZMI if less than 64KB I believe. Still, if I want to have the index_html zpt present the contents, I'll have to have urls explicitly of the form file/index_html, otherwise I presume I'll just get a file download prompt from my browser. So, I think I'm left with Folders. If I store my text as a property of a Folder (and adjust my zpt to reflect this), I can have an auto-presenting content object that doesn't require users to remember to slap the bread around their meat (if you know what I mean ;-) ). Are Folders the content object of choice in this case then, or am I missing something. BTW, I'd rather not have to use objects that aren't bundled zope as I have to fight for every additional product that is installed. Thoughts anyone? tim

Sigh... I always thought Solaris was an exercise in feature-broken command line tools (want to try unpackaging Zope without GNU tar anyone) ;) The first thing most sysadmins do is make Solaris act/look more like Linux by installing boatloads of GNUish tools (bash,gcc,vim,tar,gzip), so if all that is left is a kernel, it sort of defeats the point of the hassle (assuming you could get the same with one build of a patched Linux kernel). Unless patching and/or replacing all of user-space is easier than a kernel build? Perhaps if Sun adapted Debian's APT to support its pkg format (about as likely as typing 'apt-get install msword' on my Windows box, I'd say)...
