My hunch would be that the reverse-proxy route is the best practice, for reasons of scalability: if you ever move to a ZEO cluster, it is highly likely that you want to put multiple ZServer instances as ZEO clients behind Squid (perhaps mod_proxy can do some sort of round-robin as well); you need a load-balancing proxy to do this. If this doesn't sell you, if you run anything that even has some mix of dynamic, semi-dynamic, and static content - this is 95% of sites - the caching aspect should. Long ago, I thought about doing Squid->Apache->Zope, and then realized that the latency of doing that much proxying is pointless (we now use Squid to proxy/balance/cache multiple ZEO clients). Can Zope Handle This Site ?

L.S., Web design / content management is not my bread and butter (as my signature might explain :-), but I have to evaluate a proposal to bring my (real life) employer's site under a content management system. After a European Tender procedure, we're left with several offers in the high 6 digits (Euro's ~ Dollars). These are the characteristics of our site: 1. O(10**5) pages, of which probably half are stale. 2. Mostly static content - the dynamic pages are updated at most a few times per day. Content consists of text and static pictures. 3. O(10**6) hits per day on average, which might shoot up to O(10**6) hits per hour under special circumstances (~10 times per year). In the future we might consider (in addition to the above): 4. Pictures worth O(100Kb) - O(1Mb) updated every 15 minutes. 5. Loops of the above with 4 - 12 pictures, updated every 15 minutes. The obvious questions are: 1. Can Zope handle a site like this (items 1-3) ? 2. Can it handle the update (items 4-5) ? 3. Is it possible to give a rough estimate of the amount of work to bring this site under Zope's CMF (working hours) ? It could well be these questions just show my ignorance; what information is lacking to make an educated guess ? Paul, Your fix works fine. I needed only to add a bit of code over and above your patch which modifies the import path of ZServer/medusa/http_server.py to include ZPublisher since ZPublisher was not in the usual path. I think this is a problem which ought to be fixed in the codebase and not by patching. One or the other of us should write it up and post it to the Collector. -dra

w3c validation and <base .../> tag

Hello, I searched through the list archives but couldn't find any old thread to this. I thought this has been discussed before. Anyway could please someone advice me how to get my documents validated with the W3C validator? Zope inserts this <base href="http://zope.website/" /> which maybe is valid xhtml but not HTML 4.01. breadcrumbs ques

Hi I have the following breadcrumbs method: <dtml-in PARENTS reverse> <dtml-with PARENTS> <dtml-if sequence-start> <a href="/nbs_online" class='cyan_link'>Home</a> <dtml-else> <dtml-if sequence-end><dtml-else>&rsaquo;&rsaquo; <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>" class='cyan_link'><dtml-var title_or_id></a> </dtml-if> </dtml-if> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> The problem is when I am in a folder: a\b\c\d\index_html My breadcrumbs only displays a - b - c quite obviously because I only list the parents and it goes for d as the base node and lists all its parents Now if index_html is a dtml document shouldnt it consider that as the base object and then list all of its parents as a true breadcrumbs should?? What do I have to do to get that kind of thing going?? I think that the solution is to add the following in the end of the breadcrumbs: (in pseudo..) if calling_object not folder: list the containing folder How then do I get the information required to the the abovementioned.... namely: calling_object & containing_folder (which would merely be calling_object.parent)?? Testing cache settings: Where to install http-processing alerts?

I want to try different caching techniques, and I'd like to install a sound alert just to inform me dynamically whether or not a page is being served by Zope's core server. Exporting objects

I'm trying to understand why this is happening: I export a folder from my Zope Site at work (resulting a zexp file of 300Kb) and Import it into my Zope Site at home. Well, if I export it again from my computer (with no changes), the exported file size is 38Mb!!! Both system are identical: Zope 2.3.3 running under Windows 2000 Why??
