Handling of objects returned from external methods within zope?

Hi, I'm using Zope 2.5.0 on Linux. I have created an external method in Zope which catalogs and external function. This function just creates on object of a class defined in the external file and returns this. The class looks like this: class x: def y (s): return 1 Within Zope I now try to call the method y() of the object that is returned by the external function. This does not work - zope want's me to (re)login immediately. I guess I'm just not allowed to use classes defined outside of zope within zope. Is there some way to register a class so that it's objects can be used inside of Zope? If so, how can I achieve this? Thanks, Stephan

Debug security settings

I've created a user with the role "Administrator" and allowed many things to this user in a subfolder like Access contents information, View management screens and some other ones for a ZClass I have. The user still can't get into the /manage in this subfolder. The frames come up and the tree menu on the left hand site looks alright, but for the main window it just resides to the index_html method (ie. outside the ZMI) How do I debug to what permission this user fails to aquire? The list of permissions is very long and I can't find the one. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com) Version: 6.0.381 / Virus Database: 214 - Release Date: 2002-08-02

zope2.6.0 start up question

Hello zope users, After compiling zope 2.6.0 under RH7.2 and trying to start it up I get: 2002-09-18T11:46:41 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): Module __main__, line 770, in ? Parameter passing

Hi again, and thanks to Dieter for giving a pointer to his excellent chapter on parameters in Zope, this is what I wasmissing in the "Official" Zopebook. One question remains though: I got the impression that SUBMIT:ing a form will automatically pass on the variables used in the original form to the target item. However my experiments doesn't seem to do that. Is there another way of doing this than the URL?para=something ? I don't really want to show the internal parameters in the URL.... New server recommendations

Our web hosting company just went out of business. We have a server humming away with 249 days of uptime and counting. Unfortunately, the door to the office is locked, so we can't get it to our new hosting partner. The power and net connection are still on, so everything's fine for now, but I suspect we may need to get a new server very soon. We run Debian Linux and want a 1U server. Our current server is a 1GHz PIII with 512MB SDRAM & a pair of mirrored 40 GB drives. It's fast enough right now, but starting to slow down. >From recent discussions, it appears that Zope doesn't benefit much from a dual processor system, but it does benefit from higher clock rates and more RAM. So should I invest in a faster single-proc system with a couple of gigs of RAM, or go with a slower dual-proc box? Can I assume that raw pystone measurements will correlate well to Zope performance? Intel or AMD? I love building my own PCs from parts. Is this feasable for a 1U server? Thanks for your help! Howard Hansen http://howardsmusings.com

Additionally the Zope way of "inheriting" the REQUEST object confused me. The original problem was creating a mutiselect form where select#1 changed the alternatives of Select#2. I also did not want the URL to show the parameters. I now figured out that I can use an ONCHANGE=document.submit() for Select#1 to make the same formpage repeat itself with the changed Select#2 attributes. Additionally I think (haven't tested yet) that I can submit and alternative attribute in the "real" formsubmit and check for that with <dtml-if> in the form and then do the intended insert into a database. Please tell me if there is something fundamentally wrong with this way of thinking and if there are easier ways of doing this. Cataloging non-zope content?

I'm interested in the possibility of a zcatalog (or derived product) that can crawl and index remote URLs. That would allow my zope sites to search my non-zope sites. Has anybody set up something like this?
