How do I programmatically add a Page Template to a folder in Zope? I'm basing my attempts off of: /zope/utilities/load_site.py This has various instances of: call(object.manage_addXXX, id=name, XXX) e.g., call(object.manage_addDTMLDocument, id=name, title=title, file=body) How do I add a Page Template in a similar manner? I've tried: call(object.manage_addZopePageTemplate, id=name) But that gives me a not found error, indicating I'm not using the correct method name. Thanks, // mark -

Listing external directory contents

hi! I was able to use LocalFS to access files from a different PC. But I need to view its contents or display it on an DTML page. I can't seem to use objectValues since it returns a blank page. Do you guys know a way in which I can get and display ng contents of an external directory in localFS? Thank YOU! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Hi Zope gurus, I have been given the task to implement my College's CSE homepage http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/ with Zope for the sake of content management. I have looked at Plone and CMF and gone through the Zope book. (though I have no experience with Zope). I am wondering if using Plone/CMF would help me implement such a site or how will it help. I need the user management component but can I do it with Zope's user management and using ZMI as the content management interface. I am most confused with the content type, since what I need is probably a course/timetable management product and different type of users have different properties. I am wondering if I'm making it hard for myself to try to integrate with plone as compared to just build my own Products and ZPT. I'm open to any advice/suggestions as to what is the best/easiest way to implement the CSE homepage. Thanks for your input. Regards, Rex

Cannot login with or edit existing user details

Dear all, Zope 2.5.1 running on Win2K server. Recently we found that: a) Users in the root acl_users folder cannot now login. However I can get in on the 'superuser' Zopeadmin ID no problem. b) Whilst the user list exists and is visible, clicking on a user e.g. xxxxx which then invokes: http://url/acl_users/manage_users?name=xxxxx&submit=Edit Fails with a Zope generated error page: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: name - - - The same thing also happens if I generate new other 'acl_users' folders in sub-trees. I can populate them but not then edit them. Recent changes to the site are: i) HTTP Port changed from 8080 to 80; ii) ExternalEditor product loaded Assistance on where I go from here would be greatly appreciated. Session and objects

Hello, all. I would like to handle session events. For example: user closes browser, etc. Seems that is not possible, so I desire do it via the Session. But... is it possible to add somethin non-string'ish into the SESSION? For example, I would like add the an DB connecton or DB cursor or any other object. ZClass > Multiple inheritance > "Empty" Folders

Hi ! here's my problem : i've got one zClass : baseCard which have 4 propertyshets and methods ... it just inherits from zObjects, and CatalogAware and then i'm trying to create a new zClass specialCardFolder which inherits from baseCard AND OFS : Folder (i just want a folder with the same properties myCard's has) So my new specialCardFolder is working fine, i can edit it's properties, i can add subObjects ... but can't view them ! the sub objects are created i can edit them via /mySpecialFolder/objectX/manage_main but mySpecialFolder/manage_main keep saying : No Items ! i wrote a method content which lists objectsIds (or objectsItems) but it keep saying it's empty ! and if i create a zCatalog and tell him to find all the objectX in my website, ... he can't find thoose objects in mySpecialCardFolder .... any idea ?? thanks a lot ! String Problem continued

Hi The error I get if I try to use string.split to split a function in page templates is Error Type: TALESError Error Value: exceptions.AttributeError on ExprTypeProxy instance has no attribute 'split' in "", at line 12, column 5 I am trying to do this <p tal:content="python:string.split('jk gf')"></p> How can I use the split function to split a string? You'll have to use a python script or pass the arguments directly to the ZSQL query. In your ZSQL query it seems you have arguments named VorschlagBez, ProjektNr, and VorschlagBild. You will need to add another argument or change an exisitng argument to represent the file data, for example, VorschlagBildData. When you call insertVorschlag you can do it like this: <dtml-call "insertVorschlag(VorschalgBez=VorschlagBez, ProjektNr=ProjektNr, VorschlagBildData=VorschlagBild.data)"> The above should work fine, but I highly recommend using python scripts to handle form submissions as doing things such as data validation and manipulation is much more clear IMHO than in DTML. Do you think its that useful? Well if "it" is the channel/portlet concept as expressed by uPortal/Oracle Portal then, yes, I think it's essential. See Dario's helpful post on why he finds the channel concept attractive. If Zope +/- CMF had this now then it might be more competitive in the portal framework space. Funny that the CMF started life as the PTK ..... Please don't think I'm jettisoning the CMF as it stands as a portal framework. I think we're starting to understand that there are portals and portals. The CMF may be perfect for building a portal for a community or small organisation that has no legacy of back-end information systems. This sort of portal will host alot of content. But, as the recent META Group report <http://www.zopezen.org/Members/Ausum/1033036454> notes, for larger organisations the focus is now on "employee portals" (for universities read "students and staff") as they try to evolve from the "intranet stage" of their IT evolution. In "employee portals" all the content may be elsewhere - back-end information systems - and so the focus is on semaless integration and application delivery. This is where you want the channels; to aggregate (and skin) remote and heterogeneous applications. The portal framework also ideally gives the illusion of single-sign on (various trust relationships being set up between systems). To build such a portal framework seems a non-trivial task. Which is why I'm inclined to say "ok, so uPortal have done it, it's open source too, it's very standards centric, so let's run with that". As Dario notes, as well as its content management strengths, Zope seems perfect for building smaller applications quickly, and so perhaps we should be looking to plug these in to an overarching (Java-based) portal framework as channels. I've done this a proof of concept (using a Zope-hosted RSS app) which I then pointed at uPortal (RSS is one the channels that comes out of the box). But we need to extend this to apps that require authentication and session information to passed back and forth (and stored). Which is why I'm trawling for potential collaborators on this!
