Why do you want to recode into DTML? I think that is piece of good code and much faster than DTML. Sessiondata in SQL

Hi ya all, I wondered about integration applications in php better with applications in Zope and thought about even handing over sessiondata via sql. What is the contemporary way to have sessiondata in SQL RDBMS and are the drawbacks in it too much to even think about it - compared to using the ram based sessiondata? I tried to google but did not find that much information about whether people had written their own sessiondatamanagers or sessiondata storages to do this - hence the question. -huima

zope 2.6.2-2 debian

I am attempting to start zope 2.6.2-2 with zope-cmf 1.3.2-1 zopectl 0.2.6 and get connection refused at http://localhost:9673 root@toolbench:/etc/zopectl# /etc/init.d/zope restart Restarting Zope instance default... Waiting instances in late: default(0), done. Could this be a good install, but needs content before it will reply? all howtos I find say I will get a quickstart page if I get this far, so I have been looking at the install steps...for problems. permissions problems withthe debian package seems likely. We want to build a image database driven website. Visitors will trigger searches resulting in pages that roughly resemble Goggle's Image search results page: <http://images.google.com/images?q=cars> As in Goggle a click on a thumbnail will lead to a page with a <single view> of the picture (max 600 px wide). If the original still is bigger, there might be a link to a full-size view. The database will hold 8,000 - 10,000 pictures for a start, most of them small gifs. Image types will mostly be GIF and JPEG. Every image needs a <thumbnail>, a <single view> and a <full view>. Also there should be all kinds of metadata (jobs we used it for, creator, date of creation, keywords, description, notes, etc) Now the ?'s: If we chose to use the ZODB, how should the images with all their thumbnails and metadata stored for fast access? What would be the best strategy? Create some kind of object (folder) containing the thumbnails and metadata for each single image? Or better separate the thumb's from the original image? Or just dump everything into the same BTreeFolder? And would ZODB be fast enough? Or are there better solutions if speed matters? Lalo described they use PostgreSQL but if possible I'd like to keep everything inside Zope (maybe place the bare image files in an external file system). Might it make sense to generate the thumbnails on the fly when requested? So we only have the "original" files in the database (I guess not if speed we need). Is the property of a picture the right place to store the metadata? If so I'm not really sure what to do if I create a new property called "client" but the values could be many at the same time (Nike + Adidas + Puma) for a single image ... how will this be handled? thanks for any answers! Dynamic script loading

Hello, I don't know if my question is more zopish or pythonish. I have a Zope product. I had to add the specific functionality which is needed very rarely. I would be glad to import external module only when it is needed, do the job and free my mind and extra memory it consumed. How should I do that? I have to admit that I don't find myself as an experienced Python programmer. I just discover depths of this incredible language while extending my Zope product. Logging user actions

I would like to be able to track what our users are doing at our Plone site, since we are doing research on their behavior. To that end, I would like to get as comprehensible an log of what they are doing as possible. It is not strictly necessary to view exactly which pages are viewed by which user, but at least I would like to log all changes made to the site; if not the exact change, at least the fact that a certain page, or a certain content has been changed by a certain user. I have studied the logs, Z2.log, Z2-detailed.log, and the event log, but they don't really contain all the information that I am after. I guess what I am after is a sort of text log version of the information stored in the ZODB and its "Undo" functionality, so that one with reasonable resolution could study the logs and say, "User1 edited his home page, then he added a comment to User2's docuemnt, and sent a message to User3". We don't want to change what they have done, only study them. Do you have any tips about how one could go about doing this? Jesper
