HOWTO make LDAPAdapter works!

In which versions of Zope and Python and what is needed to make LDAPAdapter works? I've tried it with Zope 2.6.1 and Python 2.1 and nothing! And with Zope 2.3.3 and Python 1.5, and nothing either! How could i use Zope 2.3.3 with Python 2.1? with that i'd make LDAPAdapter works? A lot of thanx!

Hi I've just started evaluating Zope a few weeks ago to replace our school's old web site. While the documentation is great I'm having trouble tracking down some pointers to the following: 1. Setting up some type of version control. I've installed ZopeVersionControl from http://cvs.zope.org/Products/ZopeVersionControl but can't figure out how to use it (it is installed as a product). The help files not finished. 2. Workflows - I need to implement workflows for editing approvals etc. 3. Setting up a staging area and then publishing to a live version. I read something about Zope "versions" and I read somewhere to stay away from them. I tried versions but again I had trouble getting them to work. Is a staging -> live setup possible? Is there a better alternative? I've installed the CMF (1.4.2). I've even looked at Plone (after dropping down to CMF 1.3.3) but I don't want a portal setup, I'd like just a basic site which has version control, workflows and a type of staging/live arrangement. I've installed the LDAPUserFolder product to control access to parts of the site as well as managing it. Can anyone point me to some information. My configuration vis a vis permissions is right out of the book drwxr-xr-t 2 root root 4096 Oct 27 17:39 var with zope running as a local user ( -u zope ). The question, then, is "What should the permissions on var be?".

ZCatalog metadata from images on the web? /kv

Is it possible to use Zope (and Zcatalog) to scan and index the metadata of images on predefined URLs? The idea is to edit all necessary metadata of the images on the local machine with a fast tool. Then upload it to a regular file system via ftp and let Zope scan and index the content including the metadata of that folder. This way the files themselves would hold all the metadata and we would not have to enter it through the ZMI. Zope would be used for deploying the images using their inherited metadata. Zope would not be used for editing metadata of the images ... This way the metadata of an image would not be bound to an application, in this case Zope. The same folder with images could be reused with a different (metadata aware) application. is this possible? -- and would it make sense? 'K:?

Hello, I have created a small tool for CMF to count how many times a specific object has been viewed. It's very simple. It works by a call I have added to my main_template.pt that calls the tool with the URL of recent object and counts up by 1. Because this is a lenghty process, I would like the user to be sure nothing went wrong, so I display a list of messages being fetched, along with their sizes, in real time. I do this using calls to RESPONSE.write(). However, I've found out that it is impossible to use the dtml-var tag in any dtml method i call from this python script. For example, in dtml method fetch_header i call this: <dtml-var standard_html_header> And I call fetch_header from fetch python script like this: response.write(context.fetch_header(client=context, REQUEST=request)) If I remove the <dtml-var> and replace it with what the standard_html_header dtml method contains, it works. If there is a dtml-var tag, it breaks, and when it happens, the connection to the browser is closed immediately, and since using streaming mode by calling RESPONSE.write() does not allow raising exceptions, I don't know what is failing. There is no useful debugging information stored anywhere that I know of. No exceptions are raised, or if they are, dtml-try and try:... except: don't catch them. Is there a document describing the behaviour of zope using this RESPONSE.write() technique, with explanations of what parts of zope are safe to use in this mode, and when? Adding transactional awareness to filesystem operations

I'm working on a CMS written in Zope, which uses static publishing. So we write files out to disk frequently. The transactional safety of Zope is nice (rolling back ZODB and database changes when an error happens). Unfortunately any disk operations we do don't get rolled back, causing inconsistencies. I figure I have to change our file-writing external methods so that there a commit/rollback, which isn't too hard. Having written these functions, how do I register them with Zope? Well, if you have CMF installed, create a CMF site. Staging is kind of automatic. They submit documents, and the submitted documents can be reviewed. What more do you want than that? The version control is kind of built in with the 'undo' support... Look at ${portal_url}/undo_form in your CMF site. If you want submitted documents to first be published on a sort of "accessible only to logged in users" you can create a new workflow state called "staging", and put it in as a state before being published. Workflows are editable under "portal_workflow" of your CMF site. You might need to add a new workflow. Any 'web configurable' workflow should do. Hi Andreas, Thanks for replying to me. I checked out the python documentation and I followed up with this good hands on article about parsing XML in Python (http://www.devarticles.com/art/1/383/3) In the article, they mention one way to parse xml using the sax parser by importing this module: from xml.sax import make_parser and using this command: parser.parse(open('playerStats.xml')) But when I try to do this in my zope python script, I get Error Value: import of "xml.sax" is unauthorized Also I read that the open command is not allowed in zope. And so I am afraid I am still stick with my original problem: I have an xml document under zope and I would like to parse it and extract its content with a python script. I would like to do this under the context of zope. I know there is lots of documentation on how to use xml under python. But how do I use read xml under zope? Is it different?
