However, neither the attribute value nor Python would care if there were line feeds in the example locations or not - as long as they were real line feeds and not escape characters, anyway. If the TAL expressions were truly XML, and one wanted line breaks, they ought to read like this - "python:test( no_types == 1

Zope.cgi ...

hi, i'm having problem on compiling zope 2.7.0b3 and make it available under apache. I've read the documentation on how to setup apache and zope and i have understand how it should work.. however i have a little problem.. i haven't the so called Zope.cgi file .. and i didn't figure out the way to "make it". Also looking to the binaries stable release of zope i find out how is this Zope.cgi .. however in 2.7.0b3 doesn't seem to be any reference to PCGI, pcgi-wrapper files.. Maybe i'm loosing some information, i'm not really familiar with Zope. I tried to look to some tips about this problem on google but i didn't find any hints I'm using a Debian sid (unstable) release with python2.3.2 (i tried also 2.3.3 but it's the same results as 2.3.2 ) Any suggestion is appreciated. thanks Samuele

metal:use-macro

Hello, Is it possible to use a variable value for metal:use-macro. I have a site that is using page templates and I have implemented a scheme that can have different layouts. Each layout may have different skins. Layouts allow me to have multiple site designs with the same basic elements and the same content, but I can position elements such as the logo or menus in different places. Layouts also allow me to use different methods for defining a layout, i.e. tables for older browsers and layers for newer browsers. Each layer may have different skins. A skin defines which graphical elements and css file to use with a certain layout. Ideally the layout and the skin for the layout would be changeable by me or the visitor to the site. The functionality I want to have is to support older browsers with a basic layout and support new browsers with a more advanced layout, or having a layout geared to those with bad eyesight, or allowing those with logins to choose their preferred layout and skin, or to change the layout or skin of the entire site for basic design updates by changing a variable. To start off with I just have two properties on the root folder, layout and skin. I have two scripts, get_skin and get_layout. Calling each returns the skin or layout using the variables in the layout and skin properties. In the future I may also check a session variable or perhaps a querystring parameter for these values. Each page template in the site currently begins with a metal:use statement and so far the value is a static string. What I want to accomplish is to insert a variable for the value. Everything I have tried thus far has failed to work. Can you use statements in the metal directives that you can use in the tal directives? Does metal except string: and python: combinations and how could I best insert a dynamic value for this directive given a layout variable. Different pages use different templates within the layout. I have a frontpage template, sub_page template and sub_page_index template. <html metal:use-macro="container/layouts/default/frontpage/macros/standard"> <div metal:fill-slot="content"></div> </html> The value for metal shown above consists of the layout variable portion 'container/layouts/default' and the static layout template portion '/frontpage/macros/standard'. How could I set the value of the metal:use-macro directive to a string value containing the layout variable and a static string portion as show above? Thanks, David

Comparision with the Twisted Framework

Hi, Has anybody used the Twisted framework ( http://twistedmatrix.com/ ) in some applications, if yes, how does it compare to Zope? I guess Zope is higher up in the app scale than it, but opinions would be great. TIA Aseem

monkey patches and persistence

I have a monkey patch I am using with User Folder (I have multiple acl_user instances which are selected dynamically as needed.). I'm seeing some behavior that could be explained by persistence problems. I'd appreciate it if someone would review my approach here to see if I've missed something. Suggestions for a different approach would also be appreciated. I have a Product, "MyUserFolder", which incorporates a number of methods which override methods in the Zope UserFolder and/or add new methods. MyUserFolder consists of a single __init__.py. which includes the necessary imports and definitions of the new methods: from AccessControl.User import User def foo( self, param1, param2 ): .... and then patches them in with if 1: from Globals import InitializeClass from AccessControl.User import UserFolder # Monkey-patch the original class by # reassigning method references UserFolder.foo = foo # re-initialize the class InitializeClass( UserFolder ) When a compound data structure (e.g., a dictionary of dictionaries) is modified in a method, for example, foo, the change is flagged by including the statement self._p_changed = 1 is incorporated in the method body. What I observe is the following: Conceptually, the acl_users structure is replaced with a dictionary of acl_users instances, the particular one being selected by a key maintained as a session variable. This works just fine, most of the time. But, occasionally, the acl_users data in one of the instances, just disappears. My suspicion is that the date in the acl_users instance is not being picked up by the persistence mechanism, but I am at a loss to locate the problem. Comments, help much appreciated.

Permissions and adding products

Hello, I have created a ZClass based product that represents an admission application for college. I need to allow anonymous visitors to add applications to a folder. The folder has view restricted to authenticated users in the Admissions role. I am using a script, code following: id = DateTime.DateTime('US/Central').strftime("%m-%d-%y_%H-%M-%S") request.set('id', id) request.set('title', '%s, %s %s' % (request['personal_last_name'], request['personal_first_name'], request['personal_middle_name'])) request.set('file', '') new_app = container.admissions.applications.new.manage_addProduct['applications']. admission_add(request) I have a form posting to the script above and it is basically filling in the holes and call the manage_addProduct on the appropriate folder. The problem I am having is that after submitting the form that posts to the script above I am prompted for authentication. What do I have to do to make this work anonymously?

Plone issue..

I'd send this to the plone list but, it keeps rejecting me. I have zope 2.6.x with cmf 1.4.x installed. Works great.
