Newbie install problems

I'm trying to setup Zope 2.6.1 on a fresh install of RedHat 8.0 and running into some difficulty. I've configured zope to run as user 'zope' and chmod -R zope.zope the main Zope dir, so I wouldn't think it would be a permissions issue. Zope starts up fine, but when I try to access the management page I get a an error after entering the initial username and password provided by the install script. I've been reading through the docs, faqs, and searching online, but so far I haven't found a solution to this. Listed below are some of the details. Any help appreciated. Newbie: dtml-tree

I am hoping to use dtml-tree to display the results of SQL statements. I have looked around, and there seems to be quite a bit of information on dtml-tree, but much of it is out of date, and most only uses it to list folder contents. The data structure is as follows: The root node would be a result of an SQL which can only yield one result - say, warehouseNameSQL returns Warehouse name given the Warehouse ID. Then, an SQL statement (say productsInWareSQL) returns all products in that warehouse, sorted by category. The next level below root would be product categories, the third product names/ids. So, if the category (say categoryB) of product3 is the same as product2, then this is just listed as a sibling of product2 (both children of categoryB). If product3 is in categoryC, however, categoryC is listed as a sibling of categoryB, and product3 as the first child. I know I didn't explain that very well, so more graphically I want the tree structure to look something like this: Warehouse_Alpha - CategoryA Product1 Product2 - CategoryB Product3 - CategoryC Product4 Product5 Product6 Product7 Product8 Product9 - CategoryD Product10 Can anyone tell me if this is possible with dtml-tree, and if so give me some ideas as to how. I've tried implementing it, and I can get a list of the Categories, but instead of listing each category once, it lists each category once for every product in that category. I also can't expand the tree at all, as when it attempts to expand it seems to lose the initial Warehouse ID, and gives a NameError (global name 'warehouseID' is not defined). (I've tried setting urlparam to be "'warehouseID='+warehouseID", but it seems to want only a static string, not one that is made up depending on the value passed to the document.) There is no problem with the sql, as I have implemented it without using dtml-tree, just indenting levels further using columns. We would, however, much prefer to use a proper tree structure. LocalFS in Python script

Hello, i searched the net for hours now, and tried tons of adjustments. But i can't get this working! Im using LocalFS 1.0.0 and want to get a randomly selcted image out of a folder. My LocalFS object is called "Photos" and in a ZTP i call <img src="Photos/dummy.jpg" tal:replace="structure container/Photos/Schule/thumb/getRandom"> in the getRandom Python script i only have return random.choice(context.fileValues('File')) Btw: i tried the most current LocalFS from CVS, too It "worked" even with the objectValues method. But the big problem is that its very very slow. It took *several minutes* to show a folder in ZMI with about 50 pictures (about 100 kB each) in it; during this the cpu load is eaten completeley by python threads. ZClass inheritance problem

Hi, I have a main class called JobOfferClass and three child classes InternshipClass, FullTimeJobClass, and TemporalJobClass. When I changed the "view" method in the parent class, the child classes continued using the old view class. I restarted Zope and erased my browser's cache, but it didn't work. So, I just copied the view method in one of the children and it worked. Does the child ZClasses store a copy of the parent class when created or it's a bug? Had somebody else seen this behavior? ZCatalog : Limiting number of records returned?

I'm having a problem with speed and my zCatalog. Since I only have 350 items in it, I think I must be doing something horribly wrong. Here is my situation... I'm using the zCatalog to sort department information. Documents have properties for which department owns them (owner), and what kind of document they are (doctype). Departments have a heirarchical relationship to one another. I have two needs: 1) When you request a list of documents of a certain doctype from a specific owner, you get a list of that doctype from that owner and all owners below that owner in the heirarchy. 2) Each owner has a page listing the types of documents available for that owner. This list is dynamic based on what doctypes are in use for that owner, and all owners below that owner in the heirarchy. #2 is what is slowing me down - unacceptable slow - as it constructs an OR query that gets sluggish. The Python that calculates active doctypes is this: ------ searchresults = context.zIndex_Catalog(uofl_owner = context.get_dept_search_record(owner),uofl_doctype = str(category)) total = len(searchresults) ------ Things to Know: * zIndex_Catalog is the zCatalog * uofl_owner/doctype : the fieldindexes of the documents. These properties are string values that hold numbers (typing was a pain in the early stages of this working, and it was easier to keep them strings even though the data is numeric. It's wierd and should be fixed but I've got bigger fish to fry) * get_dept_search_record is a function that returns a collection of all subdepartments. (eg. if owner = 5 the results from this function are ['5', '2', '3', '6', '7', '8', '9', '10', '11', '13', '14', '15', '16', '17', '18'] which represents all the owners below owner 5 in the heirarchy. Owner 5 is still a few levels from the top of the hierarchy, too. There is no > or < relationship to values in the heirarchy, its all expressed in a database and owner keys are assigned when the owner is created) So for each doctype - and I think we have about 15 at the moment - that query gets run to see if that doctype is active. It takes about 5 seconds to return the index for owner=5. Thats *way* too slow. Now, I know caching is a possible resolution to this delay, but the poor user who hits the cache on a refresh is still going to get stuck with the 5 second delay. This will still cause problems. Is there anyway to search the catalog stopping when 1 result is found? Or can anyone else suggest an inspired solution to this problem? I'd appreciate it. Edward

Thanks Dieter! :) I was beginning to wonder which of the two typical newbie problems I was facing, i.e. 'trying to do an easy thing the wrong way' vs 'trying to do the wrong thing an easy way'. Probably the latter. So, maybe my best bet is to replace my top level acl_users with an ExUserFolder version... That also avoids confusion as to which user someone is currently logged in as.
