An import that fails when the import statement looks perfectly fine is often an indication that there is an error in the module to be imported. It could be a simple indentation error, or something more serious. What is the error message? Import statements import packages, not directories. The __init__.py statement is processed when you import the package, and the modules are processed when you import them from the package. Although most __init__.py files are empty, some code does some really serious work in them I like to use them to store the absolute directory path, which I can use withr elative paths to compute where to put or find files - like this (in the __init__.py ) - import os.path BASEPATH=os.path.dirname(__file__) Then you can import BASEPATH from the package. Zope, COM and Outlook

Hi all! I need to obtain someone's e-mail address from Outlook's default address book. I found a piece of python code in the internet which I modified, and it now looks like this: import codecs, win32com.client def obtainaddress(name): # Create instance of Outlook o = win32com.client.Dispatch("Outlook.Application") mapi = o.GetNamespace("MAPI") folder = mapi.GetDefaultFolder(win32com.client.constants.olFolderContacts) print folder.Item("Igor Leturia").Address o = None obtainaddress('Igor') The code needs win32com, so I installed ActivePython and copied the win32com folder to Zope's lib. I tested the code in Zope's python and it works. But as I need to access it from Zope, I included the function in one of the Zope source modules (User.py to be precise). And when I call it from DTML, it gives me an error: Error Type: com_error Error Value: (-2147221008, 'CoInitialize not called.', None, None) I've put some traces and I know the error is in the first line, o = win32com.client.Dispatch("Outlook.Application"). Any ideas? I have tried both. The name of the class I am trying to import is profile. So I put from Products.Resources.FGDC import profile and I get 'cannot import name profile' When I try from Products.Resources.FGDC import * I get 'no module named FGDC'. But I promise there is and there is a __init__ file there this time. This module is used from many other parts in my product. I have the PYTHONPATH right and an __init__ in both the FGDC and extensions folders. I am at a loss for what is happening here. Any help is appreciated, this is the last task before deployment. Another import doesn't find the module

I am attempting to import another class for use and Zope now complains 'cannot import name profile'. My Product structure in a bit more detail is: Products - Resources -FGDC -__init__.py -profile.py -BIO -scripts -script1.py -dtml -www -extensions -DISTINFO.py which contains a class of the same name In DISTINFO.py, I have an import statement like this: from Products.Resources.FGDC import profile Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here?? Jamie, Thanks for the response. I think you misunderstood my question. I'm not looking to implement a cache manager. What I'm looking to do is, not store the page for a few minutes/hours, but months. Or longer. I also want external apps to have access to the rendered page. I have to generate weekly financial reports. The data for each report is from NUMEROUS sources. So the query, formatting etc. are complex and time consuming. The weekly report gets updated over the duration of the month, but at the end of the month the report is frozen. So once the report is published, it will almost NEVER be changed. We may publish corrections to the report, but these will be labelled as corrections, and will not replace the originally published document. I'd rather not have to re-create the report every time it's viewed. I'd prefer to save the HTML representation of the report as a BLOB in a database (and later extend this to PDFs of the same). And that's what I'm hoping to do - assign the results of a page rendered by Zope, i.e., all of the HTML generated, to a binary column in a DB. OT: I believe Berkeley DB is extremely fast for this sort of indexing/retrieval. Anyone have any experience? Hope that's clearer. Thanks again. Hmmm, well generally this is what CacheManagers do, but storing the results in a database would be a new one (to date I've seen managers that use memory, the filesystem, and just add HTTP headers to the response).
