I apologize in advance if this is some kind of FAQ, nervertheless, here's my quesion : I build some simple Product some days ago. It's accessible from the ZMI and works as expected. However, I really need it to be instanciated not from the ZMI but from one python script. The exact course of action remains quite unclear, even after reading huge amounts of various docs. The products is 'Candidat'. Here's what I put in some dumb script : print "Hello from build_candidat" cand = context.manage_addProduct['Candidat'] try: one_c = cand ("M", "A", "B", "add", "mail", "bp", "ville", "tel", "cv", "motiv") except Exception, e: print e print cand return printed when executed, I get this : Hello from build_candidat __call__ <__FactoryDispatcher__ instance at 9089dc0> No comment about 1st line. Second line is the exception ('cand' not callable ???) Third line tells us about what is 'cand'. I'm sure there's something simple to do around those lines, but it's a little bit hard to find the right info... Thank you for your patience, Aurélien.

Hi list, I installed zope 2.5.1 As i tried to get to the http://127.0.0.1:8021/manage page i can´t log in because i lost the password. Read the Zope book, there is a section (under Users and security) where says how you can create an emergency user, then you can set the password of the user 'admin'. Regards, Josef

If I'm not wrong, when you make <dtml-call "manage_delObjects(id)">, you're refering to the parent object (a dtml method) and not to the object in question. index_html rendering problem under VHM

I'm in the process of testing a VHM / Apache installation of Zope and I have no problems with setting up the rewrite rules to work. I'm running into problems testing it though... Accessing my site like this with index_html appended to the url renders the page... http://www.dccc.edu:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.dccc.edu: 80/VirtualHostRoot/commcorp/index_html but if I leave off the index_html and just ask for the directory the page is a mess...you can see it for yourself. I'm only testing this by manually entering the URL so if this will be fixed by the Apache rewrite rules when it goes live please let me know. Rendering any other page by name works fine, it is only when the server has to pull up the default page for a directory that this happens. I'm using Zope 2.5.1 and my site is in my Zope root not a subfolder (moving it to a subfolder didn't seem to fix anything). Do I need to write a rewrite rule to accomodate for this or is there an easier way? thank you Edward, what you say make a lot of sense, although, I will try to do that, I am sure is going to take me some time because I am just starting with zope. I have another question, I have found some people and books who don't advice at all to use Zope on windows system, especially with mysql for windows, is there any problem? I would like to know a real reason for not to (especially if I am going to be using crystal report). Also, I have read in a couple of books that the database that comes with Zope it is not very strong, I want to do a "project" to share pictures with my family (on the other side of the Atlantic), is there any reason for not using the DB that comes with zope. Exporting zodb data (Urgent)

Hello, (I posted this question to zope-db(a)zope.org but no one replied so I am posting it here as it is urgent.) I have a web application which is written by some other person using zope/zodb/python. Now client wants to write this application using php/mysql. But existing data stored in zodb database has to be exported to mysql database. Zodb uses fileStorage to store data. I have tried zope's xml export but that doesn't make any sense to me. Now problem is I don't have much knowledge about zope. I have only basic knowledge that everything is stored as an object. I also have some knowledge of python. I have searched the web for any information about zodb but could not find much. I have only 2-3 days so I cannot learn zope then zodb and then python. My problems are: 1. How do I identify which of these objects store data(tables) because zope stores everything (images, dhtml files, folders etc) as objects so I want only objects which store data(rows) and then how many of these tables are there? 2.How do I determine how many fields are there in each data object and what are their names and data types. 3. How do I extract data from these objects and then store that to some intermediate format (csv) and then import it to mysql. So what I want to do is introspection. I don't know where to start. There are many sub-folders under this web applications. I know that I have to use external methods and I have tried it like this: from ZODB import FileStorage, DB storage = FileStorage.FileStorage('data.fs') db = DB( storage ) connection = db.open() root = connection.root() // up to this point it works. now when I try something like: students = root['students'] error message is displayed that students not found. For this reason I want to determine in which objects data is stored so that I can get its values. I also have to determine the name of the attributes (fields) used in this objects so that I can create mysql table fields of the same name and data type. If possible, please give me complete code which I can just copy and paste in external method file. If that is no possible then provide some other working example or explain the steps in detail as I don't have much knowledge about zope and co.
