Zope and Python on FreeBSD 5.1

Hello again, I read on the net that there have been issues with Zope/Plone and Python on FreeBSD. Does anybody know what the status is today? Our production server is running FreeBSD 5.1 and Python 2.1.3. Zope itself seems to be stable, but some products are behaving strangely (on the other hand they behaved strangely on RedHat Linux too). -Petter-

DBTab problem under Solaris ??

Hi, I'm currently using the DBTab product (release 1.2) with Zope-2.6.1, on both Linux and Solaris. On Solaris, when I want to move an object from a folder to another which is stored in a different data file, I receive an error message : "InvalidObjectReference: Attempt to store an object from a foreign database connection". Product causes connection refused message

Hello, Is it possible for a Zope product to cause the web browser to display a "Connection refused" message, without leaving any tracks what so ever in the Zope error-logs? Because that's what we're experiencing (mostly with CMFBoard). The folder contents show up just fine in Plone, then I click an object and boom - Connection Refused. I go back to the folder contents - no problem. The reason I ask this here is that I do not know if this bug has to do with Zope and ZServer or with CMFBoard. Thanks for any advice, -Petter-

<dtml-var foo> vs. <dtml-var expr="foo()">

A newbieish question. I thought <dtml-var foo> and <dtml-var expr="foo()"> were the same thing. Seems they are not: Depending on the way foo is called something differs in the environment they run in. Given the following situation: I have an dtml-method foo = <dtml-var bar> And dtml-method bar <dtml-var baz> Plus a third method baz <p>Pazaa!</p> Now viewing foo does exactly what you think it does: It goes calls bar which calls baz which returns the text <p>Pazaa!</p> Now change the first method foo: <dtml-var expr="bar()"> And you'll get KeyError: baz Does somebody understand what is going on? My real-world situation is that I need to specify a path, which as far as I know forces me to use the expr="Pat.to.my.bar()" alternative. Or does it not? Juho Vuori

ZEO and APE

I'm currently running ZEO (2 clients and server) with ZOPE 2.7, Plone 2 and a host of other products. Everything runs fine with that configuration but then I add APE into the shared products directory put the import in the ZOPE/Startup/zopeschema.xml and then add the ape config info to the zeo.conf file. I cannot start the instance after making those changes. Remove the import and it works fine, add the import instance won't start. I tried turning on debugging in the zeo.conf but I get no output in the logs. I really need someone's expertise to complete this signup form process on a website I'm working on. I am not a programmer and a couple weeks ago the programmer that was supposed to do this side of things quit on me. I am trying to learn I promise you but there is no way I'm going to become a programmer who can accomplish this task in the next couple of days. I'm reading a ton and all the pages are already completed in Zope. All I need is the programmer to make all the magic behind the scenes happen. This is a multi-page form that needs cookies, sessions, and field validation. The data needs to be submitted into a PGSQL database (which is already setup and ready to go). If someone would be so kind as to give me a hand I'd sure appreciate it. Shouldn't be more than a couple days of work to get the whole thing going (who knows, could be a lot quicker). I'm always on IRC (I have my own private IRC server located at irc.audiolot.com port 6667 and am in the channel #macgenius). I am also logged into the #zope channel on Freenode at all times so please feel free to PM me. Shared zope.conf file.

Running Zope-2.7.0-b4 on Linux using an NFS shared instance home, I'd like to share one config file on multiple Zope servers. Can I use a %define or something to create a `/bin/hostname` variable inside of the zope.conf so the lock, log, etc. files are unique? --Karl

Import/Upload ZEXP files PROBLEMS !

Hi I have a folder in Zope's ROOT called TEST. In this folder I create 2 DTML Methods: 'start_html' with the following content: '<table><tr><td>' ------------ ----------------- and 'stop_html' with the following content: '</td></tr></table>' ----------- -------------------- Now, I export the 2 DTML Methods in 2 zexp files: start_html.zexp and stop_html.zexp Now, I upload the 2 zexp files in Zope as File objects (in the TEST folder for example). So, in the TEST folder I have 2 files called start_html.zexp and stop_html.zexp. (Why do I do this? Because I want to have a folder with zexp files for download...) And now comes THE PROBLEM. The start_html.zexp has 'text/html' content type and stop_html.zexp has 'application/octet-stream' content type !!?? Why is that????? I need some help with this one 'cause I can't understand it ... Even if I set the 'application/octet-stream' content type in start_html.zexp it doesn't work!!?? I tried this on Zope 2.5.1 and 2.6.1, both Windows and Linux operating systems using the following browsers: IE, Mozzila and Netscape. If I change the content type to 'application/octet-stream', then Netscape "knows" to download the file but when I try to import it I get an error: Error Type: OverflowError Error Value: long int too large to convert so I think the file is corupt or something ... Win2k is at Service Pack 4, single processer. The only other major apps are MySQL 4.0.16, CVSNT, IIS 5. This is a dev server, load and memory capacity are not an issue. I have noticed that ZMI seems to have no problem opening and saving External Methods and Python Scripts. DTML methods and docs, though, hang for 4 or 5 seconds while loading and saving. hello, I got a problem with copy container support. I'm trying to use manage_copyObjects() and manage_pasteObjects() to migrate my old Zope member folders into new folders. I copied all content of the old folder, I created a new folder and I pasted the clipboard in. but my problem is, zope duplicate the object in the new folder : for example if i got a file object with 'zz' id in the first folder , Zope give me in the new folder : 'zz' .. and 'copy_of_zz'. Here is the script: types_containers = { 'News Item':'News','File':'Documents','Link':'Bookmarks'} # because i classified objects in differents folders names_containers = types_containers.values() for n in names_containers: rep = '%s-new' % n old = getattr(homeFolder, n) new = getattr(homeFolder, rep) items = [n for n, o in old.objectItems()] cp = old.manage_copyObjects(ids=items) new.manage_pasteObjects(cp) in fact, if I use the cookie and the request, I got the right result... but, I want to understand what on earth going bad ... I would not want to apply this migrate script and later realize I get lot of problems or i have lost some objects ... ! help please
