What are you trying to accomplish, and what is the expected effects? I'm not 100% sure which is the best way to validate access, but normally you use user.allowed(object) Maybe that doesn't work on methods? I haven't tried. //Lennart

Using Mozilla with Zope - External Editor

A previous post regarding Mozilla reminded me of a problem I was having only a short while ago. If I'm using Mozilla, and I also have Zope External Editor, how can I set things up so that when I click on the little pencil icon in the management screen, the document pops up in Mozilla Composer instead of a text editor or some other application? I have Zope WebDAV enabled. TIA. Samir.

Mailhost expects different security settings in different folders

Hello, I observed a strange effect when using a script which sends some notification mail. Here is the striped down version of the script: try: mailhost=getattr(context, context.superValues('Mail Host')[0].id) except: raise AttributeError, "Can not find a Mail Host object." mailhost.send("Subject: Simple Mail\n\nMessage", "tillea@localhost", "tillea(a)rki.de") If I use the "Test" button of this script it just sends a mail to me. This works fine if this script is in the container "MyTest". In the container "Application" I have some security settings applied to certain objects but no difference regarding the script in question. The Folder "MyTest" and "Application" are in the root Folder where the MailHost object is stored so the aquisition rule should be the same because there is no additional MailHost object. If I use the "Test" tab in "/Application/TestMailScript" a login screen is provided and if I use my valid login I get: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access send in this context Any hint which combination of security settings might cause such a behaviour? (I'm using Zope 2.6.2 under Debian GNU/Linux.) Kind regards Andreas.

Apache mod_cgi WebDAV patch

Hi, I am using Zope (with INSTANCE_HOME) with the following setup: OpenBSD 3.2 Zope 2.5.1 Python 2.1.3 Apache 1.3.26 (All built from OpenBSD ports). The websites are served through Apache on port 80 (using name virtual host). So far I have used my web browser for editing the files, and I would like to use WebDAV for editing my files now. For one instance, I have modified my Zope start script to use the following ports: <ip>:8080 -> http (rendered) <ip>:8021 -> ftp <ip>:9800 -> http (not rendered, for WebDAV) Using the WebDAV client cadaver I can connect to <ip>(:80) without problems. Trying to connect to <ip>:9800 and <ip>:8080 fails with the following error: dav:!> open 192.168.57.13:9800 Looking up hostname... Connecting to server... connected. Could not contact server: Malformed header line. Searching the web for answers, I have found the following posting: http://www.zope.org/Members/Brian/Misc/mod_cgi_webdav_patch.html The patch is very old (1999). Do you think that my problems discribed abough are cause by this problem and is it still necessary to apply this patch? Call for testing (2.6.4 / 2.7.0)

Hi all - Tres and I have been working to merge some final fixes, and I'd like to be able to make rc2 releases for 2.6.4 and 2.7.0 tomorrow. In the meantime, it would be helpful for anyone who runs from the 2.6 or 2.7 branches in CVS to update and let us know if you have any unresolved problems. It would be especially helpful for those who were having trouble with things like workflow scripts under the rc1 releases to give this a shot and let us know if the trouble is resolved. **Note that you need to rebuild the C extensions, due to a fix to cAccessControl. You can get this to work by using multiple hostnames for the same host. What I do is I start Zope/Plone listening on 2 ports, and this allows me to log in to the site, locally or remotely, using different usernames/passwords in Mozilla, using different tabs. What I'd ideally like to be able to do is use Apache & VHM to forward all requests on one port to the management screens, and on the default port, to the view screens. I think I have it worked out with Rewrite rules, but it doesn't always work. I've tried starting one instance then starting another and switching profiles, but it doesn't work - when you 'Switch Profile' it switches the profile for every open browser window, leaving me back where I started. I use Debian Linux and KDE, so this may not be directly applicable to you, but . . . I have used Konqueror + Mozilla, Galeon + Mozilla, and Konqueror + Galeon to do this. I've also tried running Mozilla on two different accounts or two different computers. That is to say, working from a laptop, I start one Galeon or Mozilla locally on my laptop, and start one on my desktop via ssh -X from the laptop. I think you can also do this on one computer by using two different users, but I'm not sure how you get both to be able to use the X server (probably a lot like the ssh -X case, though). Then again, Mozilla has an "Identities" feature (sort of like usernames within the program). Can you not just launch Mozilla with Identity "A" and then another with Identity "B"? That seems like that ought to work.
