calling Python Script from dtml-let

I have a simple Python Script called passwordRandom(). It works fine if I call it with: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password', passwordRandom())"> But I want that value to be available for some other things, so I want to set a variable with dtml-let. But if I do: <dtml-let password2 = "passwordRandom()"> (with a </dtml-let> further down) Then I get invalid parameter: "password = "passwordRandom()"", for tag <dtml-let password = "passwordRandom()">, on line 18 of ActivateAccountHack What stupid mistake am I making?

[Zope + Plone] Error "You are not allowed to access'listFolderContents' in this context"

I have a Plone2 web site since few months and I get a very strange error since this morning : Zope returns this error "You are not allowed to access 'listFolderContents' in this context" when I try (for example) to display folder content from the Plone interface. What is strange is that the "insufisant_priviledge" page is not displayed but the browser waits until it times out. I am manager and my provider sais he changed nothing on the server. I investigated and found it is the product "CMFMessage" that generates such error but ONLY on my welcome page. The error log sais this : Module Products.PageTemplates.ZRPythonExpr, line 47, in __call__ __traceback_info__: [o for o in msgFolder.listFolderContents() if not getattr(o,'acknowledged',0) ] Module Python expression "[o for o in msgFolder.listFolderContents() if not getattr(o,'acknowledged',0) ]", line 1, in <expression> I really don't understand : any ideas ? Sending an alarm message to all logged-in users

Occasionally I have wished for a mechanism that would allow me to write all logged-in users. Of course, this could be acomplished with an explicit test, but making the test costs a lot of overhead. Is there a better way?

Login counter for each user

Hello, I want to count every time a user logs-in. I've a user map with the user profile in a DTML document. There are also 2 property's (Last login and logincount) I've also a python script for these 2 property's. But how can I do this Logincoun = logincount + 1 in the following python script: doc=getattr(context, soid) doc.manage_changeProperties(logincount=logincount + 1) ???????? doc.manage_changeProperties(lastlogin=sodate) Simple questing with (I think) a simple answer, but for me a great help. Are any of these significant detriments with Zope addressed in 2.7 or later? 0. No standard DB support. I don't think ZPoPyDa has been updated since 2001. I'm sure that fills new developers with lots of confidence. Perhaps it works fine, but it's not being improved. Perhaps other DB interfaces are better. But then again ZSQL Methods are still ancient and in DTML. 1. Build in user management. This is stupid. The user management is good for companies of 10 people or so but what good is that to web application or ecomm site? You going to hand add users? The only solid product for this is LDAPUserFolder, the rest should still be in beta. 2. Debugging. This is worse. It is so complicated to debug Products or Zope crap I can't believe it. This is relative to PHP or JSP or ASP; all I have worked with. 3. Python Keeping python up to date to use products. Pain in the ass. 4. DTML/ZPT Seems 90% of Products are in DTML yet ZPT seems like the obvious thing to use. Fine, except when you need to tweak a product and then have to learn DTML. PHP is PHP same for the most part with ASP (all VB if you like) or JSP (all java if you like). Honestly. If I new know what I do about zope I would not recommend it for commercial development. Go with a product that lots of people are using, this way you are ensured that components will be well supported and improved over time. Not dropped because the author has moved on.

User authentication via relational database

Hi, I need to authenticate users against a relational database and after that give them rights to Zope. I have still problems understanding the underlying Zope concepts, perhaps you can give me some hints. My case is quite simple: My system design has 4 roles: "anonymous", "customer", "member" and "director". When people log on to the system, their login/pass is checked with a relational database and then the user is associated with one of these roles. It would be ideal to map those roles to Zope, so that I can limit access to certain functions directly with Zope. But how could I do that? I thought about it like that: In Zope, I create 4 users, and give each of these users an appropriate Zope role. If someone logs in the userid/pass is then checked with the relational database and after that the user is somehow logged into Zope as one of these 4 users accordings to the rights set in my database. For limiting access I would then adapt the security of certain Zope objects. Will this concept work with Zope? What would I have to do? Or is there perhaps a better solution to my problem? Epoz & ZWiki during edit collisions

Hello all, I am running Zope 2.6.2, ZWiki 0.30.0, and Epoz 0.8.4. My problem is with edit collisions in ZWiki - hitting the 'Back' button does not allow me to capture the editing I have done, as the collision page says it will do. I have the same results in Mozilla 1.6, Firefox .8, and IE6. After looking through Epoz and ZWiki, it appears that the SyncEpoz and InitDocument javascript functions should be providing the capability to recover my edits. Putting in some alert()s confirms that the correct page data is there during an edit collision. It just doesn't appear in the Epoz editbox when I hit 'Back'. The structuredText editbox behaves as I would expect, in the instance of a collision. Hitting 'Back' re-displays your edits. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Did I possibly munge the install of Epoz somehow? Thanks in advance... david
