Strategy for 100 SQL tables

Hi everyone - I have a general question about the best strategy to use for an application in Zope that will have about 100 SQL tables storing a bunch of different data and types, and attachments (document, etc). I still am not 100% clear about the difference between content types, archetypes, and the rest of the types of stuff that can be done with zope. What does everyone suggest for a situation like mine with the following requirements... -- Each table stores unique data and should have the ability to present a 'default' add/edit/remove page with the ability to customize or over-ride the defaults. -- Each table can potentially participate in workflow, each in its own separate process -- The schemas of the tables will need to be changed at installation time (although changing things in house and sending updates and scripts is fine), but changes should be easy to do and be as automatically as possible picked up on the html/dtml forms that are used to modify the data. So far, I've learned a little about archetypes which match these requirements pretty closely, but I only see how to use them in plone, not zope by itself. Any thoughts? TIA Alan

DTML vs ZTP

I'm a third of the way through the Zope Book and understand the difference as it is written. As you can appreciate, in learning a new technology, what is missing is the experience that would guide your focus. What I would like is an idea of how real world developers use these in the following senses. Do you use one exclusively (in conjunction with Python)? Do you use primarily one or the other? Do you use both roughly equally? Are there classes of applications where you have found one is preferred? Your advice would be welcome. Getting title attribute given objectid

First off...I just started playing with Zope today... This seems like it should be easy, but I've been searching google and the archives all day to no avail. I have an object ID and would like to display the object title as the content of a drop down menu. As it is now I can only display the ID: </select> <select name="querytype"> <span tal:define="ids root/Database/querytype/objectIds" tal:repeat="id ids" tal:omit-tag=""> <option tal:attributes="value id" tal:content="id">Item from sql method</option> </span> </select> What I want though is for the only the value to be the ID and the content to be the title. So something like this (which does not work): </select> <select name="querytype"> <span tal:define="ids root/Database/querytype/objectIds" tal:repeat="id ids" tal:omit-tag=""> <option tal:attributes="value id" tal:content="id/title">Item from sql method</option> </span> </select> I'm going to go get a good book on Zope and read it tonight. Filling a metal slot which name is known only at run time

Hi, I am writing a kind of generic templating system. The details are not so important, but essentially, I need developers to be able to write page templates with slots, which end users can fill with various content via a tool I'm writing. Basically, I need to be able to get the list of all slots in a macro (which I can by traversing the contents of 'template.macros') and then to generate a metal:fill-slot statement for each one. However, the problem is that metal:fill-slot seems only to accept a static string as the slot name. I need to be able to generate the fill-slot statement at run-time, essentially something like: metal:fill-slot="python:here.getSlotToFill ()" though that doesn't work, because it doesn't evaulate the python: statement, taking it instead as a string (which is an invalid slot name). Caching zope pages

I have been trying to set up Squid as an httpd accelerator for Zope with the idea of speeding up load times, especially for Plone. Unfortunately Squid appears to simply redirect any requests rather than serving them from cache. Is there anything I can do within Zope to allow pages to be cached? Or have I overlooked a Squid setting? -- John

Return image from Python Script

How do I return an actual image file from within a Python Script? return context.restrictedTraverse('/LDML/images/ldml.gif') Gives me: <img src="http://127.0.0.1:8080/LDML/images/ldml.gif" alt="" title="" height="120" width="120" border="0" /> But what I actually want to do is return the file itself. Think Python Script as symbolic link. Sorry, must be v. easy but I've been thrashing around on various sites for about an hour now and I'm getting no closer. TIA Simon Forster
