allowing _mm folder?

Hi! Our college is looking into using Macromedia Contribute to manage content. I would like to have contribute manage content stored in zope. Unfortunately, Contribute uses a '_mm' folder to store isn't site configuration information. Since this is a protected id, when Contribute tries to setup an ftp connection and create this folder it fails. Is there any way I can either allow _mm to be created as a folder, or is there some other way around this? I've thought about trying some sort of pre_traversal hook that would translate _mm to mm_ (or some valid id) when it's requested, but I don't know how to do that. Actually, I don't know if 'pre traversal hook' is even the right term; because is it really 'traversal' when you are requesting an 'mkdir _mm' via ftp? Any help would be VERY GREATLY appreciated! John: instead of: context.manage_addProduct['myProduct'].manage_addAction(request.id,request) I have never used manage_add (except when I'm using the ZMI) - But I do know it is part of the ZMI and would *probably* return the ZMI interface when you use it... Try: context.manage_addProduct['myProduct'].Action.createInObjectManager(request['id'], request) [ABOVE IS ALL ON ONE LINE..... Action is a class within myProduct] this will create the object... Then it *should* run the return routine..... Hope this helps..... Bill

licensing issue

Is there a licensing requirement for web applications built on zope. For instance is it possible to have a commercial license for such an application? I am not clear as to the legal aspects of this, could someone point me in the right direction? thanks garry

admin problems: avoid starting some services and webdav question

hello, I run zope 2.6.4-1 on debian/testing with 4 instances, using zopectl to manage these instances. I have in /etc/zopectl/zopectlrc: HTTP-Port: 9673 FTP-Port: 8021 WebDAV-Port: 9674 Monitor-Port: 9675 ICP-Port: 9676 and in every single /etc/zopectl/<instance_name>.conf: HTTP-Port: 9080 WebDAV-Port: 9074 FTP-Port: 9021 Monitor-Port: 9075 ICP-Port: 9076 with s/90/91, s/90/92 or s/90/93 for the 3 other instances. this works great, but if i try some services not to start (for example the Monitor-service), and i comment out this port in every config, zope doesn't start any longer, only the first instance. for me it looks like zope in this case tries to start at a default port anyway, and this already is in use by the first instance. So how can I avoid to start a service? simply removing the port-directive seems not to be enough. And my second problem: I try not to start WebDAV services on the given HTTP-Port. For now WebDAV is available on both, configured WebDAV-Port and HTTP-Port. I found this configuration-option webdav-source-port-clients: No and added it to the bottom of /etc/zopectl/zopectlrc, but nothing changed. even with adding it to the instance-based files nothing changed. any suggestions? bye jonas

I've never done it at all, but a few ideas come to mind: If you're using Active Directory, maybe the Python LDAP tools could help ... Otherwise, using the w32all Python extensions, you could probably write some code that would do it by binding with COM or something like that ? Problems with ZEO on zope 2.7.0

Hi. I wave a problem with ZEO on zope 2.7.0. On my older zopes everything is fine. But zope 2.7.0 acts strange. It is working (at least I think so) but when I go to management panel an there to " /Control_Panel/Database/main" it shows me that i use database located in " /opt/Zope-2.7.0/instancje/2/var/Data.fs" and it size is 0.2K instead of giving me hostname:port as location of ZODB and it's true size. On the beginning I thought that it's not using zeo server but it is using it. When I shut down zeo server I get errors "not connected to zodb" or something like that. And netstat shows me connections on proper ports. It looks like everything is working, only the management panel is showing wrong data (even database activity is zero).

If your Z SQL method is in another folder, either visible from the current folder or from the directory tree to the current folder, use <dtml-with [Folder_Name]> <dtml-call "update_something_sql"> </dtml-with> If the Z SQL method is in a somewhat less obvious location, try: <dtml-with [Root_Folder]> <dtml-with [Folder1]> <dtml-with [SQL_Folder]> <dtml-call "update_something_sql"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> Using the dtml-with tag, you can force the page to reference the namespace you want and you can recurse down a folder structure.
