ZServer stops responding !? Help !?

G'day, I've got a rather bizarre but catastrophic problem. ZServer seems to stop responding. Sometimes it does so after days of running, sometimes after a few seconds or minutes of uptime. I know it's ZServer because I can talk to the monitoring port without problem. Also, the apache processes just pile up up to the limit allowed, suggesting the proxying is not getting replies from the downstream server. The strange thing is the cause seems to be occacional, or vary. For hours on end I can sit there and restart it, and within minutes it stops responding ... Then suddenly the problem "disappears", I restart it, and I wait .... and nothing happens, it just keeps running. Nothing else abnormal is going on the server so far as I can tell, there is very little memory swapped, and the CPU usage is not abnormally high. I used to have this problem very very rarely in the past, but since I upgraded to Zope 2.7, it seems to have gotten much worse :( I tried accesing the DebugPanel from the monitor, but can't seem to get it to do anything useful ... I don't know where else to look to find the cause of this. This causes serious uptime problem on our main, high traffic site, which is Very Bad. I'm on RedHat 7.3 (fully patched) Python 2.3.3 (custom compiled) Zope 2.7 CMF 1.4.x (I forget ... the latest!) Psycopg (Latest also) And a variety of other products. Thanks, J.F.

I'm trying to install Zope 2.7 on Debian. I'm using the following software: python 2.3.3 gnu make 3.80 gcc 3.3.3 I'm running the following configure command as a non-root user (tom): ./configure --prefix=/opt/Zope-2.7 The /opt/Zope-2.7 directory exists, with an owner and group of "tom". I don't get any errors when I run "configure". It says that I have the "optimum version of python". However, run I run "make" as user tom, I get hundreds of errors and warnings, and I finally end with the following error: error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 make: *** [build] Error 1 The errors seems to start the with the following line: gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fPIC -I/tmp/Zope-2.7.0/lib/Components/ExtensionClass/src -I/usr/include/python2.3 -c AccessControl/cAccessControl.c -o /tmp/Zope-2.7.0/build-base/python-2.3/build-temp/AccessControl/cAccessControl.o This is the only time that gcc is called before the program crashes. Also, here are the last couple of lines that I get before make crashes (which look just like the 200 lines before them): AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: initializer element is not constant AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: (near initialization for `RestrictedDTMLMixinType.methods.link') AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: initializer element is not constant AccessControl/cAccessControl.c:2237: error: (near initialization for `RestrictedDTMLMixinType.methods') error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 I found someone else who was getting the same errors online (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&forumid=18&thread…) However, this guy was trying to compile Zope 2.7 with python 2.3.1. Oh and also, The CPU usage for the processes and threads is perfectly normal once everything stops responding, so it doesn't really look at one or mo thread might be stuck in a permanent loop of some kind. Also I don't really have anything that could risk causing cause an infinite loop anyways. There is no error message or traceback of any kind in the events log, and according to Z2.log, I don't see any pattern of a specific URL or object or type of call that might be causing this ... I'll keep an eye on that one though, could take a while to detect. External Methods & Symbol Table & BioPython

Hello, I'm trying to use BioPython in an External Method but it return "ImportError: cannot import name FastaReader" (and others functions). I check some "tricks" but nothing change. Exception handling and Site Error Log

Hi, We have a lot of Python code in .py files run via External Methods for an application we are developing. I have a bit of a dilema about the exception handling. I find that if I catch exceptions in the External Methods (so that I can display a nice error page to the user) nothing is logged to the Site Error log. If I remove all try-exception blocks from the code any errors throw up the standard Zope error page and log to the Site Error Log. Is there a way to show the user a custom error page and still have the error logged to the Site Error Log? Removing mailmanager

Hello, I've a problem after I removed Mailmanager. Ther is still a proces that's pickeng up the mail from mij accounts that used MailManager. This mail is disapearing in a black hole. Who nows what is wrong or whitch proces i've to stop. greetings, martin Koekenberg

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. I can only think that you have a .forward file set up piping new messages into a script to send messages into MailManager. MailManager certainly cannot collect mail directly from a mail server itself if it is not present! BTW there is a mailing list specifically for MailManager; the address is mailmanager-users(a)lists.sourceforge.net.
