You have to pay a price for "explicit is better than implicit"... That said: When you care enough, then you can make your life easier -- by *MODIFYING* Zope code. For example, you can add a new "binding" for PythonScripts that make "request" available as an additional bound name (beside "context", "container", ...). I think, this would be a good thing... And you can add additional functions to the "builtins" for PythonScripts. To learn how you do this, you can look at my "hasattr_unaquired" patch in the Zope collector. But, neither Python nor Zope's Python Scripts support macros. All you have are functions... -- Dieter

Turning off xmlrpc handling

ZPublisher seems to assume that if the Content-type on an HTTP POST is "text/xml", then the request contains an xmlrpc call. I would like to POST an XML document and handle it myself in an External Method (via REQUEST.BODY), but ZPublisher exits with an error when it tries to parse the XML message looking for a proper rpc call. Can anyone think of an elegant way to tell Zope *not* to do this? 1. I would prefer not to hack Zope. 2. I cannot change the Content-type on the client 3. I apparently cannot use apache mod_rewrite to rewrite headers. Thanks in advance, John Ziniti

problem with uploading through WebDAV

Hello, I've been a Zope user for awhile, but this is my first mailing list posting. Please let me know if there is a more appropriate forum for my question. We have an Product that subclasses ParsedXML and PortalFolder. When something is uploaded using WebDAV within an instance of the class, the XML source of the document is supposed to be updated to reflect the objects contents as a folder. The problem we are having is that sometimes the upload takes place with a no effect. The log Z2.log file shows the WebDAV PUT request with an HTTP Status code of 204, which ought to indicate success. No exceptions are in the error_log. It seems as if the transaction is aborted somehow, as though there was a ConflictError, but no ConflictError messages appear in Zope's console output. I am very puzzled; there are no exceptions in the error log but the object is not being saved. Is anyone familiar with a situation like this? Mark Meredith

Calling ReST from DTML

Pardon if this is an old q... the search engine claims to have never heard of restructured text. I have a restructured-text document (in Zope 2.7). It renders perfectly. I want to embed it in a DTML page, so I call it like so: <dtml-var restcontent ftm="restructured-text"> Works great, and it renders fine. BUT: where the ReST renderer converts literal straight quotes " to &quot entities, when I bring it in via DTML, the entity gets converted again, so I see &quot literally on my page. There must be some way of preventing this, short of re-writing the renderer. Anybody have any experience with this? My complaint isn't with ReST, but with how DTML filtes ReST. - John Maxwell jmax(a)sfu.ca

Active Zope threads and connection cache size

Does the size of the connection cache need to grow when Zope runs more threads. I currently am running 8 threads (default 4). I note that the current OODB connection cache size is FIXED at 7. Do I need to increase the size? I would have guessed the connection cache should be somewhat larger than the number of threads and that it should be set dynamically. Can anyone hazard a guess as to what it should be? twice the number of threads? more? I am running Zope 2.6.3b2 but I think the same question is relevant for all versions of Zope.
