Another question about these PluggableBrains I'm developing for my application. I haven't been able to find much definitive, complete documentation on the subject anywhere. So I'm pretty much figuring it out by trial-and error. My class has an __init__ method like so: def __init__(self): "Initialize class" self._badmsgs = {} # function: reason # Validation info... self._invalidated = False # Have we been specifically invalidated by a set function? self._valid = True # Are we valid? When I access a query using this Brains class, I get an AttributeError complaining about _badmsgs. What is causing this? It occurs even if I declare _badmsgs = {} outside the __init__ function.

Using TAL outside Zope with path expressions

Hi, I'm trying to use TAL (from Zope 2.7.0) outside the Zope context (== standalone program). I have cooked a small test case to illustrate where I got stuck. The problems are the following: 1) I could not use path expressions inside TAL repeat loops, something like "tal:content='itervar/someattr'" fails. - Apparently DummyEngine does not parses nor handles path expression inside evaluatePathOrVar(expr). It just checks if it belongs to self.locals or sefl.globals How does it work inside Zope ? Does it use a different Engine ? I failed to locate this in the Zope code, any pointers ? 2) I could not find how Zope handles 'repeat/itervar/odd' and simmilar constructions upon the repeat var. This also fails when I use TAL outside Zope. 3) I found some 'z:...' instead of 'tal:...' constructions inside the test cases. They are equivalent ? Is this documented somewhere ? Help is unauthorised

I have installed Zope-2.7.0 using the Windows installer, got it running and done some tutorial stuff, all seems ok. When I try to access Zope help, I can get to a lot of it, but under the API section, if I try to access anything, I get a logon prompt and nothing I put in here is accepted. When I quit the logon prompt, the help screen tells me: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access 'name' in this context What is wrong with my Zope help ? -- Les Ferguson Software developer Waitakere, NZ

MySQL and form processing

I have read thru the zope book and various how-to's and examples, but really need a solid peice of sample code to kick me off here; what is the best way to handle ZPT based forms, for updating and searching in a MySQL database etc. For example, I want a customer search form, taking one or more search criteria, then when submitted I want to build an SQL query to find all rows with ANY of the requested fields, using a LIKE match. I seem to need to intercept the values posted from the form and wrap '%' around the search values, so the LIKE compare will do substring searches. Has anybody found good examples using ZPT ? Most of the documentation I have found have a combination of DTML examples and statements about why we should use ZPT instead. -- Les Ferguson Software developer Waitakere, NZ

zope image in postgres ?

Hi, I have a question regarding zope with Postgres. I am storing images in a postgres database using OID's and Bytea's. I have been trying extensively to get these images to display through a zope dtml page, but cannot for the life of me. I tried this but it won't show the image. dtml method called query image: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-type', 'image/jpg')"> <dtml-return "sql_get_image_oid(userid='1006')"> another dtml method that should display the image: <img src="/Examples/Ty/image_testing/query_image"></img> I tried this with both data types, oid and bytea but I get no results. It's a custom browser ... No, seriously, the code is all javascript, running as a standalone app in a browser. I got unexpected results (not, of course, from a Python module!) in the output of document.write(), which I was able to fix by breaking up the strings at the "</". I just looked at the HTML 4.01 Rec, and the script element is declared to be of type "CDATA". The Rec adds these words - "Although the STYLE and SCRIPT elements use CDATA for their data model, for these elements, CDATA must be handled differently by user agents. Markup and entities must be treated as raw text and passed to the application as is. The first occurrence of the character sequence "</" (end-tag open delimiter) is treated as terminating the end of the element's content. In valid documents, this would be the end tag for the element." Note that this use of the term "CDATA" is specific to SGML (as opposed to XML) and has nothing to do with CDATA sections. I know this is confusing - see Joe English's page for some explanation - http://www.flightlab.com/~joe/sgml/cdata.html Anyway, terminating the string interpretation upon finding "</" is apparently being done by an HTML parser, and what's more is legal and required for it to do. So at a minimum the browser's parser will (or at least may, depending on how strict it is) do it, regardless of what Zope does. That agrees with my experience except that I didn't realize it was legal. The upshot is that the Plone template is written incorrectly and it is just lucky that it has worked up until now.
