That's the good ol' memory leak I was (And still am) suffering from. I eventually had to capitulate and set up a nightly reboot :( I'd developped all sorts of inetersting ways to track down what was holding references, but ran into ExtensionClass'es which made the whole thing overly complicated. I'm hoping with Zope 2.8, if the problem still exists, I'll be able to better track down the source of the problem. I've noticed what I believe are "request leaks" if any variety of CMF is involved in a request though I haven't tracked this down. The symptoms are that every request causes the HTTPRequest class to have its reference count increased by one, plus a bunch of other objects are leaked because the request that was leaked apparently continues to hold on to references to them. This may or may not be what you are seeing. If you want to track something like this down, there is really no shortcut. My strategy (which I've never successfully used to actually fix a leak, mind you! ;-) is this: - Confirm that bare Zope doesn't leak by testing refcounts before and after you load the quickstart page several times (remember to clear the ZODB cache before you start hitting the site whenever trying to test refcounts). Look at the number of references to all classes in the Debug tab. These references should not normally grow on every request. - Do same for one of your "domain" objects. If you see leakage when trying this against a method of one of your domain objects, a binary-exclusion method is usually the only way to pin down the leak. Prevent half of the code that gets run when your domain object method is called from running. If you still see the leak, the leak happens in the code you didn't prevent from running. If you did, the leak happens in the code that ran. And so forth. Folder with property on the file system

With ZODB, I can create a folder with properties I like. Now I want to move this on to the file system with the CMF File System Directory View object. Is it possible for folders in FSDV to also have custom properties? If yes, how to do this? Best Regards Hong Yuan

different logfiles for virtuell hosts with virtual host monster?

Hi, does anyone has a hint about how to differentiate the accesses to different virtuell hosts? As far as I can see, the host part wouldn't make it into the Z2 log. I don't have or want an apache in front, only pound, which also has no support for seperate logging of virtual hosts. Thanks, Sascha

how to query multiple catalogs using search button?

Hi, I want to query two different catalogs,"portal_catalog" and a "ZCatalog" using the search button in plone. I want to give the user a drop down menu from which user will select a value and enter the searchableText in the input box . After this when the user clicks the "Search" button the concerned catalog should be queried and the results should be displayed to users. Please help me to tackle this issue! nonlinear response times on multiple concurrent requests for same data

I have a report page that when going through the maximum amount of data takes maybe 5 seconds to generate on both my Linux server and on the Windows machine I use for development. This report page is a Page Template generated from external product code. There is no external database involved - just Zope objects. I was getting weird periods of serious slowdown on my server, and traced the problem to multiple users running this report at the same time. On the windows machine, if I generate 4 requests, the time to return all of them is approximately 20 seconds or x*N response time. On the Linux machine, however, I seem to be seeing MUCH longer response times for simultaneous requests for the same data. Could this be an issue with the way in which I have Zope configured on the server? or does the Linux version do something differently? I have seen hints of "read only" transactions, but have not been able to figure out how to code these. Is there something I could do to make these read requests for the same data not interfere with each other? --Sean

Hello All: Is there a format code (or other way) to do the following: <script language="JavaScript"> var myArray = new Object(); <dtml-in somelist_of_strings prefix="sl"> myArray[<dtml-var sl_item>]=<dtml-var anotherlist_of_strings[sl_index]> </dtml-in> </script> Specifically, I am interested in whether there is a way to force <dtml- var> to render the quotes, assuming both somelist_of_strings and anotherlist_of_strings are both variables available through the REQUEST object. Right now I have to enclose each dtml-var tag inside double quotes, and while it works, it's kind of messy and screws things up when it comes to a different data type. Any suggestions are appreciated.

RE: Importing Products into my Custom Product....

I am asking this question again in hopes that maybe this time it will make more sense.... What I want to do is reuse code from one product to the next in a Python Class...... This is trivial in a ZClass, but ???? Anyway, I create a new Python Product "FOO" and I want to import the methods of another Python Product "Bar" ("FOO" and "BAR" are next to each other in the Products Directory), so I add "import Bar" into my __init__.py file for "FOO" When I do this, the ZServer complains that the module does not exist..... So, I try: "from Bar import Bar" and "from Bar.Bar import Bar" and "from Products.Bar import Bar" Again the ZServer complains that the module does not exist -even though they *do* exist right next to each other in the same "Products" Directory..... How do I get one product to use (reuse) the methods of another product that also exists in the "Products" Directory? WPH

dtml-tree status again

Hi! dtml-tree question again (ZopeTree is not suitable for now, because I want to build a tree from results of zsql methods) A little example to demonstrate my problem: <dtml-tree> <a href="&dtml-URL0;"><dtml-var id></a> </dtml-tree> Each link is pointing to the same page where the dtml-tree is, but when you click on any link, tree will lost its status, and it will be collapsed. Import Problems - What am I doing wrong?

I have two Python Products, Virtual_site and Virtual_Misc in the lib/python/Products directory.... In Virtual_Site, I have a Python module called Campus and inside it, I have a Class called Campus..... In Virtual_Misc, I have a Python module called Misc and inside it, I have a Class called Misc and several methods..... I have been trying to import the methods from Virtual_Misc.Misc into Virtual_Site.Campus - but everytime I try to import I get an error.... I have tried putting the following into the module Virtual_Site.Campus: import Misc and from Virtual_Misc import Misc and from Virtual_Misc.Misc import Misc and import Virtual_Misc.Misc.Misc None of these work and I get an error.... So I tried to put the import statement into __init__.py - again no luck..... This is very frustrating to me and obviously I am missing something - IF someone out there can enlighten me, I would greatly appreciate it... TIA WPH
