Hi, OK, let me see if I can do that... I've already figured out that a python script/external method solution is what I'm after. But how to make it work? Anyone know about Greasemonkey in Firefox? Basically, it embeds a handy link in Web pages that have ISBN numbers in them (unique identifier for a book). When you configure Greasemonkey right, it checks for the book in your local catalog and returns a link to that book in your local library catalog. The trick is to use the same idea, but inside of Plone with an RSS feed that displays current bestsellers or other book-related stuff where there's an ISBN included. Here's the sort of python script I need, to the best of my knowledge, though the first function I can't use (it checks against an Amazon Wishlist--I don't want anything to be dependent on Amazon or a particular browser). A memory leak in Zope, PageTemplateFile and macros?

Hi all. While debugging an application of us I suspected we had a memory leak, so I started with the usual divide et impera approach, trying to figure where exactly was the problem. I therefore started removing all code from inside the main templates in our system, so that I could figure where the problem was. The surprise was that even if I removed all the code, still I was able to see the memory footprint of the zope server raise as new requests arrived. I'm using ab from Apache project to test. I've devised a very simple product which shows the problem, which I include. I tested this with python 2.3.4 and Zope 2.7.6 Test string was: ab2 -A admin:admin -n 100 http://localhost:8080/LeakPT1/start_html Regards Marco

Security framework troubles

Hi, I am attempting to make a zope product (a custom book-database for use by my employer) and of course want to secure it. I have added this code to my class: security = ClassSecurityInfo() security.setDefaultAccess("deny") security.declareProtected("View Bookbase", "index_html") security.declareProtected("View Bookbase", "standard_page") security.declareProtected("View management screens", "manage_main") And also of course InitializeClass(Bookbase) When the template tries to access container/title an access denied expection is raised. With VerboseSecurity I get this explanaition: Unauthorized: The container has no security assertions. Access to 'title' of (Bookbase at /bookbase) denied. What exactly am I missing here? It works if I do setDefaultAccess("allow"), but I don't want to allow access by default and then just deny for those I know I want to deny access to. Debugging product init with zopectl?

Hi all, I'm new to Zope, getting started with the "minimal" project (http://www.zope.org/Members/maxm/HowTo/minimal_01) For whatever reason, minimal doesn't work out of the box. That would be fine except that when I start Zope with zopectl it reports status as fine and the process runs, but I don't get any logs generated and I can't connect to the server. But, if I use runzope I can see what's wrong and the server dies immediately: File "/var/lib/zope/zope-test/Products/minimal/__init__.py", line 8, in initialize constructors = ( AttributeError: manage_addMinimalForm My concern isn't this error, which I fixed by importing the function explicitly. But why did I have to use runzope to see this? Shouldn't zopectl inform me that the server is completely broken? By the way, I'm using a standard Gentoo installation of Zope, and I haven't changed any options from defaults. Could someone please tell me if this is expected behavior? Should I be using runzope in a screen or something? Thanks, Konrad

utf-8 vs. unicode question(s)

MySQLdb and unicode

Hi there, I have a problem using MySQLdb and unicode. with older version (0.92) I could set a parameter "unicode" to the connect() method to tell MySQLdb what charset to use. This parameter is not accepted anymore. The only way to deal with non ascii character I found was setting pythons default charset to utf-8. is ther an other way ? thanks Robert

Password Protection

This may be a really simple thing to do (but I'm a bit stuck and searched the web but found no answers). I have a Plone site working great. I have a folder which I wish to password protect (and all of the data in the folder). Thing is, I want to use our LDAP server for authentication. I have the site setup as normal with an ACL_users folder. I then have a folder called "protected". In this folder I have added a LDAPUserFolder object and linked it with our main LDAP server. Question is, how do I use this LDAPUserFolder to provide authentication for the "Protected" folder? Thanks

xemacs ftp and scripts

Hello, I am very new to zope, and I am not an experienced lisp programmer - please accept the standard Newbie apologies. I am avoiding the use of DHTML, as this seems to be the approved policy. Most of my work has been using page templates, and internal and external python scripts. I am trying to use Xemacs to develop and maintain a site that I created via the web interface. I have connected using the xemacs ftp link, and can edit. I have a couple of problems. Firstly, my xemacs did not recognise my Script(Python) files as being Python, and so it does not automatically switch to Python Major Mode. I added the standard shebang "#! /usr/bin/python" to the start of the file which fixed this. However it would be nice if it were to recognise Zope's script preamble. Please could someone point me at a resource to help me configure my Xemacs for this. Secondly, I found that after I had edited a script the web interface no longer showed the file as a python script, but as a DHTML file. When used, I just saw the script contents. Is this related to my adding the shebang? I have now removed it again, but it has not fixed the problem. Is there any way I can switch them back (without using copy and paste)? How do I avoid this happening? I am using Debian "Sarge" Linux, which provides Zope 2.7.
