zope backward compatibility policy?

hi, what's the backward compatibility policy of zope? i'm asking because while upgrading from 2.6.4 to 2.7.2 we had some problems. simple ones (like the 'lines' property type seems to have changed from list to tuple), but still problems. i checked the changelogs, and this change does not seem to be mentioned. i thought that if someone is not in the changelog, then is supposed to be unchanged. or not? p.s: i am still a beginner in the zope world, so maybe i am completely wrong :) gabor

Zope 2.8.0 monkey patch issue

Hi, I am trying to migrate from Zope 2.7.6 to 2.8.0 In some product I did, I need to monkey patch some OFS and CMF classes (I do this in product init). I get this error whenever I try to do <someclass>.__dict__[<someclassattributename>]=<newvalue> : TypeError: object does not support item assignment This was working fine in Zope 2.7.x Any idea what could have changed that would imply this ? Problem Installing Zope 2.7.0

Hello Members, i m installing zope2.7.0 on red hat linux advance server 3.0....n m trying 2 create a new zope instance..but the problem is that there is no /bin directory created in my zope_home folder( which is zope-2.7.0) though all other doc ,import,lib, skel,Zserver,utilites,import, test.py,setup,py,sbin etc....have been created is sbin similar to bin?? m unable to execute the command......../bin/mkzopeinstance.py it says no such file or directory from where shld i run /mkzopeinstance.py??? m completely new to zope... kindly help Thankyou _________________________________________________________________ Sajnaave or Dhoom machaale? http://server1.msn.co.in/sp05/iifa/ Make your favourite song win!

Thanks Lupa. I have tracked it down and created a patch which fixes the problem in general. Seems the ISO 8601 implementation had some warts. We are testing the patch now. When I am sure it's OK I'll submit it to the Collector with an "URGENT" tag. I'll also send you a copy. I suspect that the daylight savings time behavior is unrelated to this problem and is likely to be a bad entry in a table. Thanks for you helpful response. BTW if you want an alpha copy of the patch, let me know and I'll send it to you. The more testing the better. The patched version has the following semantics dates and times with no timezone tag resolve to the timezone of the host machine (Zope standard behavior) dates and times with a trailing Z are guaranteed to be GMT dates and times with a trailing offset have the offset as their time zone. It is illegal to combine a 'Z' and an offset. Assiging Owner Roles to subfolders

Ok - newbie here, This may be a basic question but I can't figure it out. I have series of folders that I want different groups to be able to modify the contents of (including the sub-folders). I thought the easy way to do this is to create the folder and then share the contents of the folder with the group of interest. But for some reason, it doesn't automatically share all the subfolders with the user. Any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated. thanks in advance, Dan

Licensing Question

Hello, We are building a commercial product as an add-on to zope. There are several 3rd-party components that can not be open sourced. Is it possible to distribute those components (packaged separately) without needing to make them open source? Obviously we will recognize all copyrights and open source any changes to zope itself. using Access2PDF from Zope

Hi All, I'm trying to drive Access2PDF from Zope, but I just can't get the PDF created. I succeeded to call the Access2PDF COM object from the Python interpreter and it made its work gracefully. Now when I try to call it from an External method it seems to start working (MSAccess.exe can be seen in the Task Manager), but that's all and no PDF (also Access won't unload but it is another story for now). It would be very great if someone has experience with this tool and can share this with me. Thanks and Regards, Istvan

Py-Toc and zope products

Greetings. I have been messing around with the py-TOC code, and am looking forward to implementing it into my zope/MySQL site. I think I am missing something about how to connect it to my zope folder class My goal with this is to tie in the AIM messages in with the folder class I am using in zope to affect database queries. However, I've only been able to successfully get it running using the "bot" and "bm" classes as global variables (not self.bot and self.bm) so they are now outside the class where I need them... This was my best attempt at getting them inside the zope folder class, but zope does not like it...
