unwise.exe missing on linux

Hi Does anyone know if the zope uninstall program 'unwise.exe' can be got separately? I have installed zope on linux but the unwise.exe program isn't within the package. Thanks Michael

Zope Foundation Update

Foundation Update ---------------- This note updates progress on forming of the Zope Foundation. To remain transparent as possible, we are communicating in as timely a manner as possible. First, we have contacted the Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) which specializes in the formation and maintenance of the legal structures that support open source software. From our first conference call with our primary POC there (who also helped with the Plone Foundation), we took away some homework items including: (1) draft trademark license agreement between Zope Corporation and the Zope Foundation (2) draft/initial set of ByLaws and related formation documents that capture the spirit of what we've been discussing for a while now (i.e., Eclipse Foundation-inspired membership and Apache Software Foundation-inspired operations). We have made progress on (2) but stopped when we discovered a trademark violation that needs to be addressed before Zope Corporation can properly license the trademarks to the Zope Foundation. During my stay at EuroPython I learned that eighteen months ago (and without Zope Corporation's knowledge or consent) Zope Europe Association (ZEA) registered a trademark consisting of the Cirlce-Z (the stylized Z surrounded by a circle) followed by the word ZOPE (hereinafter "Circle-Z-Zope"). The mark they registered is identical to the corporate logo used by Zope Corporation. In the three weeks since learning of ZEA's illegitimate registration of our marks we have tried diligently (but unsuccessfully) to get ZEA to unconditionally transfer the rights of the registration. We have offered to reimburse the registration fees paid by the ZEA to the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) in order to facilitate the transfer. We have further offered to preserve their license to use the Zope mark in the conduct of their business as an association of Zope companies. ZEA's registration represents an abuse of registration and management of international trademarks and the misappropriation of a mark that is clearly the property of Zope Corporation. We are sorely disappointed that ZEA is unwilling to transfer the marks quickly and quietly so that we can proceed swiftly toward the formation of the Zope Foundation. We know that the establishment of a fair trademark license for the entire Zope community is an _essential_ component of the Zope Foundation. It is possible that we will come to a conclusion with the ZEA prior to the conclusion of a trademark dispute process. However, as a result (and unfortunately), until this matter is resolved using the established legal/trademark management processes, we are not able to proceed with the Zope Foundation. We will keep the community updated as milestones are reached, so that you know what the new target dates are for the formation of the Foundation at the same time that we do. We recognize that there are lingering questions about the trademark and our management thereof. We have captured our position on these marks in an open letter to the Zope Community. How to display unicode character given its code

Hi, This is a bit OT but this list is the best place I know to ask it :) I have a form which uses UTF-8, the text entered in the form then has to be converted to iso-2022-jp. If any character is entered that isn't valid for iso-2022-jp I get: UnicodeError: ISO-2022-JP encoding error: invalid character \u2013 What I need to do is display the offending character in the error message. So the question is, how do I take the '2013' and display the appropriate character? TIA, Itai

Running more than one instance on windows often block each other

Hi list, I run a few zope instances on a windows machine (xp). I start them either with runzope.bat or as services. The behaviour below is independent of this. But sometimes a running instance (A) seems to block another instance (B) from starting. This does not happen every time. If I stop instance A and start B again, it runs fine. The funny thing is that sometimes B starts fine even with a running A. (Or vice versa). Of course I set them to run on different port numbers in zope.conf. (HTTP, FTP etc.) I can see (with the excellent (and free) 'Process Explorer' from sysinternals) that the python processes always opens port 19999, and connects by that port to themselves on another port (for instance 2550). Maybe my problem has something to do with this? Has anybody experienced the same behaviour? greetings, Sune

We're using dual cpu (not dual core) 64bit AMD Opteron (Sun Fire V20's) based systems and are VERY impressed with their performance; our python benchmarks show dual Opteron 250 systems outperforming dual twin-core Xeon 3.6GHz with the same code. Almost everything we run is ZEO based and hosted over 2 or more boxes (7 or 8 in the case of our biggest system). We couldn't be happier with the combination of Opteron and ZEO. We benchmarked 64bit Opteron, 64Bit UltraSparc III, 32bit Xeon and 64bit Xeon for our applications. Opteron trounces them all in day to day use. Sun's dual core Opteron offerings are coming out VERY soon. So that will make the V20 a 4-way system, and the V40 an 8-way system! As a guide, our standard spec for a ZEO hosted Zope server is 2 x Opteron 250/252, 4Gb, dual Gbit NIC, dual 10krpm SCSI drives in RAID1 (the main ZEO backend server is a similar spec but utilising a big SATA array in RAID50). We've found we can host 6 or so big sites (resident seize of 250mb or more) on each node and still get excellent performance by duplicating across several nodes. We have ZEO served sessions and use Pound to load balance across the pool without any stickyness - meaning on each page access users will (potentially) go to a new box - resulting in much finer grained balancing and use of resources. Hi I need a suggestion / advice regarding the CPU options for the best ZOPE and ZEO performance. eg 32 vs 64 bits architecture, single vs dual core, hyper threading. Is there any bechmarks already posted on the web?? working with urls

First of all thanks everyone for the help, I've resolved my problems one after the other thanks to the suggestions I've found here. Now I'm rewriting urls by substituting the href attribute with custom data, and everything works fine. What I'd like is having an url like: myproduct/generate/20050301/PG2, and actually that's exactly what I've got. This url will make my app generate a pdf report for the ref_date 2005/03/01 and code PG2 (ref_date and code are internal data). Zope obviously maps the url as an object, but that's not what I want: I want to parse the url and use the ref_date and code data inside a generate method. Is it possible inside Zope without mod_rewriting and similar stuff ? I don't like querystring, the resulting url would be too long and difficult to paste.
