migration from 2.9.1 to 2.9.4

I am having some problems migrating from Zope 2.9.1 to Zope 2.9.4 on my Windows 2003 based Zope setup. Installation of 2.9.4 goes normally -- both servers (2.9.1 and 2.9.4) seem to be running happily (on different ports). My first strategy in migration was to copy the data.fs from 2.9.1 to 2.9.4. That seems to fail as certain "directories" when viewing is attempted from the 2.9.4 ZMI exhibit the following error: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 106, in publish Module ZPublisher.BaseRequest, line 275, in traverse Module ZPublisher.BeforeTraverse, line 108, in __call__ Module logging, line 999, in error TypeError: _log() got an unexpected keyword argument 'error' My next strategy was to export to .zexp the critical material from 2.9.1 and import into 2.9.4. All appears to go well -- but attempts to access the imported material from the 2.9.4 ZMI fails with the same message. Any idea what is going on here? Any other strategies for migrating that anyone can think of or things to look at?

Checking in pages, scripts, and sql methods to SVN

Hello, Is there a Zope product out there that would allow me to check into SVN my Zope objects (i.e. TAL pages, Python scripts, and ZSQLMethods) ? If not, can anyone here show me some skeleton code to : 1. Enumerate these objects 2. Reference them as files so I can programmatically check them into SVN ? Regards, Danny

New to zope

Hi, I am new to Zope and I plan to develop a small web site. I am developing at the moment on windows although the final site will go under Linux. I am almost finished reading the zope book. First thing, it was difficult to download Zope. The website lists two versions of zope 2.9.x and 2.10.x , none of which has a windows installer, although the book explicitely said there should be one :-) I had to get back to 2.9.4 to get a windows installer, that would not work out of the box. I was also confused of whether I should use zope 2 or zope 3. The zope book does not mention anything about it, but I soon figured out that the zope book seem to be made for zope 2. I also had a look at different products but it is very difficult to tell if they are for zope 3 or zope 2. Or is zope 3 backward compatible with zope 2 ? Is there any doc about zope 3 ? Since the book is made for zope 2, I think I'll stay with that one. I can not go without documentation. As a newcomer, I must say that the documentation is not very consistent or easy to find. Many resources speak about a zope wiki, which does not exist anymore. Another zope wiki is available, but is not cited in the main documentation page. The main wiki page is a huge list of modules, where it is difficult to find one's path. I assume the wiki is mainly for developers, not for users, right ? The main documentation page of zope also points to zdp.zope.org as a documentation project effort, but the website does not exist. :-( Now, the second step. I now have a basic understanding of how zope works thank to the zope book. I want to start developing my website. I had a look at the different products available and my god ! there are hundreds of them. So, I am asking for advice. My website is going to be fairly simple. I need a user base which I don't expect to grow beyond 100 users, and for each user I need a pretty typical login/register/lost your password page and probably a cookie based session tracking. Any product that covers my needs ? I had a quick look at a few user products, but most of them seem to be targetted to authenticate users through external resources (database, apache, ...) while I just need the good old cookie way. building zope and plone behind apache2

I'm using a linux to run my plone and I wish to build it behind apache2. The documentation on the Plone site is for plone that are build behind apache2 on a Debian system. But I'm using a platform call Scientific Linux and I couldn't find a lot of folders and files mentioned in that documentation. What should I do now? PAS and SSO pubcookie question

Hi all, I'm a newbie to zope, working on installing a plone website for the radiology department at the University of Washington. I want to use SSO so that my content creators don't need to remember additional login/passwd for my site. I've been working on getting apache proxying and pubcookie authentication to work with Zope (2.9.4? installed via the plone 2.5.1 installer and also by hand). Instructions for doing this can be found at http://www.washington.edu/webinfo/case/zope/ So far, the apache proxy and mod_pubcookie parts of the puzzle seem to be working just fine. I can protect a directory with AuthType UWNetID and all works as expected, and the proxy rewrites I've generated seem to be redirecting traffic from my port 80 apache instance to my zope instance as expected. Logging in at the pubcookie login server also works, but when I'm redirected back to my zope instance, I am prompted for a login/password, and no matter what I give, I am locked out. I have been able to log in to my zope instance via localhost:8080/manage, and when I've added the 'access' file with my username, a colon, and a newline, no password is required to login. So I think the 'RemoteUserAuth' plugin described at the above site is working correctly. I have debugged the interaction from the apache side as far as I am able, and I know that the appropriate headers are being sent to zope via the mod_fba module in apache. What I can't do, and what I need help with, is debugging the zope half of this interaction. I don't fully grasp the way that user authentication works in zope. I'm not sure where to begin to look for the problem here, and I'm hoping someone can help. I'm a python newbie, so I might need a little hand-holding, but I'm an experienced programmer, and willing to do pretty much anything to figure this one out. The success of my plone site really depends on it. The expected behavior is that mod_fba sets an authorization header with a username from pubcookie and sends it to zope with a page request for the ZMI. Zope is supposed to enter _remote_user_mode (as I understand it) because I've provided the 'access' file, and then set the credential name using that header. Zope then uses that name for authorization, taking for granted that it has been authenticated, and not checking passwords. This appears to be happening correctly when I try to directly access the ZMI via localhost:8080/manage. I can give a user name and no password and am logged in as expected. However, when I try to access the ZMI via apache (http://myhost.com/manage which gets rewritten to http://localhost:8080/manage in apache proxy), I am prompted via basic auth for username and password, and anything I enter is rejected. Can anyone help me to figure out how I can debug the interaction here? Perhaps taking a look at the headers that apache is supposed to be sending once they arrive in zope? Any other suggestions would be wholly and warmly welcomed. Z2.log format

I'm running an instance of Zope 2.8.6, and I'm stumbling into a problem with the format of Z2.log. Unlike an Apache log, which would have the format %S - %u ... Z2.log appears to have the format %S- %u ... The lack of the space following %S causes analog to choke on an address that contains a hyphen in it, and in my case, analog cannot read half of Z2.log. I've tried looking up how to change the format Z2.log comes in, but I haven't found anything useful. Is there any way to work around this? -Sascha

Transient Object Container

Well, I hope this is the right place to post this question... I'm trying to learn how to use the Transient Object Container to use it for session data managing. I searched on Google for it, and I found some instructions, but it has me puzzled the one that adds objects to the TOC, because the key is specified, but the object to be contained isn't. This is the afore mentioned instruction: new(self, k) Can somebody indicate to me a place to learn about this subject in more detail? All the pretty Icons have gone

As a new learner of Zope & Plone (Plone 2.5). I am slowly working through ZopeBook-2.6. Most going well but suddenly all screen icons have disappeared!. All I see is the alternative text. * Probably the last thing I was playing with is on page 110 of ZopeBook-2.6.pdf Where I viewed directly "http://localhost:8080/p_/ZopeButton" - which still works • And did some experimenting with "standard_html_header" • It was about this stage that icons began to disappear • I have done some undos • I have restarted zope • I have restarted computer • I have tried an zope.org archive search without success Everything else seems to work OK Any help appreciated. ExternalEditor plugin for OpenOffice.org

Hi all. I hope this is the right place for asking this. Is there anyone who has already developed a plugin for Zope External Editor to interact with OpenOffice ? I know it is possible to have them working by disabling the quick start plugin, but it is a bit clumsy, ad it looks more a hack than a solution to me.
