Turning off authentication for a zpt page

Hello, I'm using a Zope product called OpenFlowEditor and I modified one of its .zpt pages (view_process.zpt). All is well, except that I now want to allow Anonymous users to view this zpt page. I tried doing so by checking the "Anonymous" checkbox for the "View" privilege in http://myserver/OpenFlowEditor/view_process/manage_access , but still no success. Am still being asked for a username and password. Any idea on how to get this working ? Regards, Danny

upgrade from 2.7.5 to 2.8.6

Hi, I have just upgraded the staging/test version of a large site from 2.7.5 to 2.8.6. When restarting zeo, it seemed to take a 'long' (in the most subjective sense) time to come up, and I noticed this entry in the logs: 2006-09-14T17:36:23 WARNING ZODB.FileStorage Failed to load database index: exceptions.AttributeError: type object 'BTrees._fsBTree.fsBTree' has no attribute '__basicnew__' Does anyone know what this means? Is it important/indicative of any sort of problem at all that I should be aware of? Does the storage do anything in response to this at all? When the live version is upgraded, downtime has to be at a minimum, or I will get phonecalls ... Thanks, Miles

Remove/Ignore <P> and other HTML tags

I am a system administrator who maintains our Zope servers. I don't know that much about python or zope, just enough to upgrade and trouble shooting from time to time. Of course, the developers who have developed the system are no longer here. I try to move a site from Zope 2.7.4 (python 2.4) to a new server with Zope 2.9.4 (python 2.4.3), after some struggle, I have fixed most of the problems, but one that I don't have much clue. I hope that expert here can shed some light for me. Here are section of code that displays part the of some abstract <dtml-let rand1="get_random_image()" cap1="get_folder_title(name=rand1)" text="get_abstract_sample(name=rand1)"> <table cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0><tr> The function get_abstract_sample is here for object in container.research.objectValues(): a = object.getId() if (a == name): text = object.research_description_html.read() else: pass text = str(text) return text[0:400] + '...' The above code work fine for the 2.7.4 server, but fails for 2.9.4 server, it will ask for authentication password for 2.9.4, no user/password combination will work. If I modify it as follows (for 2.9.4 server) for object in container.research.objectValues(): a = object.getId() if (a == name): text = object.research_description_html text = str(text) return text[0:400] + '...' Getting rid of read() for the 2.9.4 server solve the authentication problem and display the web page but with some unpleasant <P> and other HTML tags literally (It doesn't for the old 2.7.4 server). Will Zope Run On Iron Python In Mono?

Thanks to everyone who offered advice on how and whether to examine the ZODB objects that Squishdot uses. I now have a better understanding of the unique role that ZODB object storage plays in Zope, and why replacing ZODB with RDB/SQL is not in general warranted. I isolated the Squishdot performance problem as being in a single <dtlm-in> command and will raise the matter further on the Squishdot mailing list. Mono intends to support Iron Python. Are there plans for Zope to support an Iron Python/Mono configuration, without use of CPython?

\n problems with mysql5

Hi, I used mysql4 with Z MySQL without any problems. Now I want to update to mysql5. Unfortunatly the server reports a syntax error like the follows: ------------------------------------------------- Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Error Type: ProgrammingError Error Value: (1064, "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'on\n(\n articles.store_id = stores.id \n and \n articles.manifacture_id = manifac' at line 7") ------------------------------------------------- I think the problem is the '\n' character. POST sucks.

Been doing web services (XML-RPC) stuff lately. What suggestions do people have for troubleshooting a zope-based XML-RPC application? Access and trace logs are totally useless, since even the method name is hidden in the POST payload, so I feel like I'm flying blind; when a client developer tells me he gets occasional hangs, I have no idea what kind of request triggers the hang. I may end up sprinkling my code with a lot more logging calls than I'm used to. Any other suggestions? -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com

ZEO with Multiple Storages

We currently have a ZEO environment with FileStorage (data.fs) over 100 gigs, which continues to grow. Currently we are approaching a major hardware and software upgrade. All new hardware and moving from Zope 2.6 to Zope 2.9. Our server hosts sites for several different schools and departments within our college, what I have considered doing is trying to split up the data.fs into multiple smaller storages, possibly one per school. I suspect if this is possible it could potentially have several benefits. The first being that we would not have to deal with 100 gig files which are very difficult to move around backup/restore, etc. Secondly, we often have a very large number of users updating content at a given time and will run into slowdowns where a transaction is blocked while another commits. I hope that multiple storages could allow for a transaction to commit to one storage at the same time as another, though I am not sure. Along this line can a single transaction commit to multiple storages? First off, does this make any sense? Is it worth pursuing? Secondly, I assume that where an object is stored does not limit what other objects it can access in a transaction (e.g. object A could add a property to object B if they were in different storages) because all changes would occur in a client. (this ties into the single transaction committing to multiple storages) If this does makes sense is there any documentation, recommendations, best practices for how to set something like this up? Lastly, any thoughts on how we could split up our existing data.fs file? One thought I had was to attempt to import/export data. ZPT based on files in local filesystem folder

Hi List, I've been googling, maybe LocalFS is a solution, but I would like to listen a second (or more) opinion. I would like to have a ZPT showing images and links for files that are not within Zope filesystem, indeed they are in my local filesystem (they are created by an Unix program btw). So I am looking for something that may import my local folder and/or the files inside to Zope space where a ZPT can work with. For the moment, I would be more insterested in a external method or similar rather than LocalFS or any other product that I have to install in my zope server. Any commentary or advice would be very welcome. Simple high-level question - mabye about WEBDAV?

I am looking to extend a zope portal to allow authenticated users to upload/download files... the idea being to support a shared drive containing various files available over HTTPS and available anywhere there is web-access. Ideally this notional 'web-drive' should be accessible using Windows "Web Folders" -but I'd also like for it to support ACL-style permissions with respect to file-access by other authenticated users. Are there any "products" which already address this requirement?
