I'm developing a new product for a Zope 2.9.7 site (no CMF). I'd like to use Zope 3 technologies for this product. I've been looking around for a few days, most of what I see describes development for Zope 3, or Five in the context of Plone. Is there a tutorial or a product I can reference that describes how to build a few simple content types "the Zope 3 way" in Zope 2?

Convert absolute path to File object

In a script python I need to a read a File stored in ZODB at some location. In the said script I only have absolute path of File object as string for e.g. '/path/to/file/object' The only way seems is to convert path string so that it can be accessed using container.path.to.file.object.data Can anyone suggest a method to do so. -- Regards-- Rishi Pathak Pune-Maharastra

mysql and LOAD DATA INFILE

hello everybody! this is a 50%zope and 50%mysql question..hope somebody here will help me..:-) in PC1: are running a mysql and zope+Plone server. A zsql method imports a csv file into mysql using a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE and all runs OK when the file is in the PC1 filesystem. I know that "LOCAL" is from the mysql server's point of view, in this case "LOCAL" should mean "where the mysql client is running" (the zope web server) Is there a way to let a remote Plone user (on a remote host) to enter his local file into the remote mysql server? I guess that the issue is entirely on the mysql side, but hope that zope will offer some kind of solution. hope to have been clear enough.. thanks, Stefano.

changing permissions in python

I have been searching everywhere for the correct syntax to use to change permissions on a dtml method from a python script. I know it could be using manage_changePermissions() but exactly how can I call it on any method. Regards Garry

Old zope instance migration to Ubuntu 8.04?

Hi - I have an old instance of Zope - I'm not sure just how old but at least four years (maybe six or seven, I don't know) - which has been running on a server which is now no longer functional. I'd like to migrate to a new server running Ubuntu 8.04.1 but the old code doesn't run anymore. I have a full backup of the system and would be quite content to get it running under the current Ubuntu zope distribution on the new server but would like some advice as to how best to proceed. Simply putting the existing zope directory structure on the new machine and trying to start it up no longer works - presumably due to differences in Python versions - but I don't actually know that. I have a high school field hockey team, an Indian Princess group and a couple of other groups with Plone sites on the old server and they'd like to see their stuff again. Any suggestions as to the best way to handle this? Cheers --

The same path function I can use on page templates Imagine this TALES expression: python: path("a/concrete/path") Can I use it on a python script? Is someone read browser.contents ?

howto talk to a zodb while zope is running

Hi, I maintain several websites where we rely heavily on file-system files to serve images and movies. We have a user interface in Zope to manage the files, based on the "external file" product. Users can upload files via webdav to the filesystem and I am synchronizing Zope by using inotify (Linux OS kernel tool that triggers on changes on the file system). At the moment I use a http request to the localhost to tell Zope that the filesystem has changed, but when a lot of files are created in a short time the updating is too slow. Is there a faster way to talk to the zope database than via a http request while zope is running? I tried to find something useful on the net, but was buried in too many pages which are not really relevant. With kind regards, Paul
