A newbie doesn't know if it's good or bad to emulate zope2.x. I didn't do "make instance" and everything seems fine. Ah, maybe the reason for the confusion is a mistake in the text. The first yellow square, should it say makezeoinstance instead of mkzopeinstance? Would make sense :) What directory structure makes sense? I hade ZEO and Zope going into the same instance. That results in less directories. Should I put the instance directly in /path/to/zope? I would then get only one bin/ and one etc/. Tim

checking the date

Hi all ! I'm using Zope page Template with python scripts. I have a date in my form and when it is submitted, a python scripts checks the consistence of the date as follow : from DateTime import DateTime try: start_date = DateTime(REQUEST['datnais'],'central europe standard time') except: print 'error' return printed The date is inputed under this format : YYYY/MM/DD ex : 2003/02/15 The problem : the "error" message is always issued even when dates are ok (and whatever the date format). try: start_date = DateTime( REQUEST['datnais'] ) works but only accepts date under format YYYY/DD/MM as in the US but I have to work as GMT+1 Thanks in advance for any help. Our setup: Windows 2000 server ServP3 Zope 2.6.2 CMF 1.4 Ph.

Many thanks for your effective help. In attachment I send modified DT_Var.py file (from Zope 2.5.1) with this new function called "cut" and "etcc" (see below, extracted from comments). Attribute 'cut' will continue from number of cutted bytes:  inserts '... blah blah' After truncation, the value given for the 'etcc' attribute is added to the string. If the 'etcc' attribute is not provided, then '...' is used. Here are equivalent word-break as in 'size', but in reverse order for no missing words or letters. Both 'size' and 'cut' could be used for middle text extraction: '<dtml-var spam cut=3 size=10>' first make text shorter fot 10 bytes (as specified in 'size') and then from this shortened text was cutted first 3 bytes (as specified in 'cut'). So result text length is in adequate to 'size - cut' with respect to word breaks. Because I am not an experienced python programmer, I feel, that code could be rewritten to consume less memory. Authenticating off an external server

I'd like to authenticate in Zope off of another external server. So, say, user "bob" with password "secret" logs into Zope -- we then call https://otherserver.com/auth?username=bob&password=secret, parse the response, and the user is authenticated (or not) based the response. (We could also try the external URL with HTTP authentication, it just depends on the way the external server works) I looked into PluggableUserFolder some, and it seems possible but not particularly elegant -- the best I could figure out was creating a new PasswordEncryptionScheme which would do the web lookup, which is rather bizarre and obviously a hack. It seems like a useful thing to do, but I couldn't find any products that did this. Is there a better way to do this than this PluggableUserFolder hackish thing? Changing Python's Date/Time Input Format

Hi All. I've got a minor issue with a form which takes a date and returns the string date. I'm wanting the input format to be able to accept any of dd-mm-yy, dd mon year, dd/mm/yyyy. Currently, it works for dd mon year, but it handles other input as mm/dd/yy. (which is kind-of un-natural for those using this form) how should I modify this python script... today=DateTime(input) return today.strftime("%d %B %Y") ... to alert Zope that the incoming string will be always in the order of dd mm yyyy? This is the traceback when the first tuple is not a valid month.  Cheers, Julian Clark

To run Zope I execute runzope and I get lots of messages. Although zope seems to run just fine, I can get into ZMI. How can I tell if ZEO works? Does ZMI show this somehow? I'm running Zope2.6.2 on RH9 as well and see the same thing at start up time. I don't know enough about the Zope startup process to explain why they spawn the child but it usually terminates on it's own after the start up process has finished. My assumption is that, being a threaded process, it spawns a child to handle any requests/subprocesses so that it isn't blocked from receiving new requests while current ones are being handled. Little change of DT_Var.py for dtml-var modification

Hallo all, I want to add parameter "cut=###" to <dtml-var> tag. It is opposite for "size" parameter, at Zope 2.5.1 you can find it around line 260 of DT_Var.py. But after restart (*.pyc file successfully created) the modified tag <dtml-var file cut=200> does not cut anything, returns whole text from file instead file with missing first 200 chars... Does somebody have idea, where I need to change more? Many thanks, J. Hi, I was just wondering why Zope runs multiple threads of z2.py by default? For example in my ps listing I have: zope 18183 1 0 10:25 ? 00:00:00 /home/zope/Zope/bin/python /home/zope/Zope/z2.py -u zope -f - p - zope 18184 18183 0 10:25 ? 00:00:10 /home/zope/Zope/bin/python /home/zope/Zope/z2.py -u zope -f - p - However one of my colleagues only has a single zope instance appear in his ps listing on his machine. His zope installation still runs fine. We are running Zope on Red Hat Linux 9. Does something like this make a difference?
