Exception within ZServer hangs Zope
by Jure Koren 25 Nov '03

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, Zope users! Has anyone seen this? I causes zope to just hang, and I don't have a clue as to where to start looking. It seems it happens within the ZServer, but I couldn't find a line in the entire tree of Zope that would assign a suspicious value to that 'p' variable. Can anyone suggest how to detect this and at least restart Zope, as this is causing us service outages (the question is really how to properly programatically restart Zope, as if you push Restart Zope within the control panel). Is killing -15 zope processes safe? 2003-11-25T11:05:58 ERROR(200) ZServer uncaptured python exception, closing channel <ZServer.HTTPServer.zhttp_channel connected 192.168.0.56:1598 at 0x924a2b4 channel#: 124 requests:1> (exceptions.AttributeError:'unicode' object has no attribute 'more' [/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|poll|107] [/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|handle_write_event|402] [/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asynchat.py|handle_write|146] [/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asynchat.py|initiate_send|208] [/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asynchat.py|refill_buffer|195]) Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/jure/zope/z2.py", line 913, in ? asyncore.loop() File "/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 200, in loop poll_fun (timeout, map) File "/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 111, in poll obj.handle_error() File "/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/http_server.py", line 440, in handle_error asynchat.async_chat.handle_error (self) File "/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 425, in handle_error self.close() File "/var/home/jure/zope/ZServer/HTTPServer.py", line 325, in close p.more() # free up resources held by producer AttributeError: 'unicode' object has no attribute 'more' - -- Jure Koren, n.i. jure(a)aufbix.org, GPG pubkey @ http://aufbix.org/~i/public.key -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.0 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/wyLV9iFCvmuhrCIRAn/+AJ42J0XnVo9oeSq62BM+RnzH7EpmtgCgpFZV aXPTBG49Obl7Rj11o2N/KUA= =HwGb -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

tar.gz changing to tar.tar during download.
by Louis MacCubbin 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hello, When ever I try to download a tar.gz file from my Zope site, the extention changes to tar.tar. Why is this happening? Does anyone know how I can I fix it? The workaround for this is to rename the file back to xxx.tar.gz after it downloads. Thanks Louis

change plain HTML file to page template?
by Steven Hodgen 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

How can I change a regular html file to be a page template? I can't see anything in properties that would allow this and have even looked at a page template file to see what's different from manage's point of view and can find nothing. Of course, I could create a page template, copy/paste, then rename, but there must be a property of some sort attached to the file, so how... Also, is it possible to create a file from an external source (FTP, etc.) so that file becomes a page template? If not, it's sure be nice to not have to go into the management interface and either create the file, download, edit, the upload or do the create/copy/paste/rename business. Thanks! --Steven

by infonicrelay＠t-online.de 24 Nov '03

Hi, after switching from Zope2.7.0 B2 to Zope2.7.0 B3 LocalFS 1.0.0 dosnot work. It is not shown broken in the Product management. After commenting out some stuff in LocalFS._safe_get_Ob I get an AttributeError Value:manage_workspace Also I can not access mamage_main It is declared as: manage_main=HTMLFile('dtml/main',globals()) ... same with index_html Are there changes on the HTMLFile implementation that can couse such errors? -- _______________________________________________________________________ Andreas Heckel andreas(a)easyleading.org LINUX is like a wigwam...no gates...no windows and an apache inside ;-)

module shared between products
by David Little 24 Nov '03

24 Nov '03

I am developing a project which I have split into two products to avoid having too many files in one place. I want to use a common base class in each but I can't find out to do this while keeping all three product directories together. There is something about multiple product directories the archives: " If you are prepared to edit Products/__init__.py add a line: __path__.append('yourpathhere') " Is there a simpler way to do this? david

RE:Quick Question
by Goldthwaite, Joe 24 Nov '03

Thanks Derek, Paul, and Cameron. I appreciate the help. I created the EVENT_LOG_FILE environment variable and then took the "s" off "constructors" and I did get an error in the log. It really helps to know where to look and I appreciate the time you guys took to respond. I'm still running into confusing errors. I have a form that adds a new user that looks like this; <dtml-in valid_roles> <dtml-if expr="_vars['sequence-item'] != 'Anonymous'"> Zope is giving me this; Error Type: SyntaxError Error Value:Line 2:"_vars" is an invalid variable name because it starts with "_" The lines are coming out of The Zope Book. I went over the file twice to see if I had mistyped something but I don't see anything. Is the book wrong? There's nothing in my class called _vars so I assume this is supposed to be internal to Zope. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I'm not very good at typing things in so I've ended up with a lot of typos. I can find and fix them pretty easily but I've noticed that my changes don't get loaded into zope automatically. I restart zope but the original syntax error stays unless I delete the product before I restart. Is there an easier way to force the product to reload? Thanks again for the help.

Re: [Zope] DMTL-IF: Listing Documents that contain queryword (Solution)
by Sean Lee 24 Nov '03

Thanks to folks who responded to my question (as in Subject), especially Jonathan and Dylan. I've been trying to DMTL my way through this, on and off, for several weeks. Simply speaking, I have a bunch of files in a directory and I want to (automatically) create URLs that will list groups of files by title so that all files "Category A*" are listed together. I decided to try the way of ZCatalog (hint provided by Jonathan, Small Business Services) first and it proved to work "as seen on the Web". Here are the steps I've done to get it working - it's easy, but I couldn't find any how-to's on this so here's a mini how-to, I hope others will be able to find it in archives when needed. 1. ZCatalog The relevant doc for v2.6 are here http://zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/SearchingZCatalog.s… (I use Zope 2.5.x) So, I found the Web docs very confusing so I just tried intuitively - added ZCatalog, went to its Find Objects tab, catalogued all objects in a directory/folder Then I created a pair of forms (Search/Results) by adding ZSearch Interface. I tried searching for *keyword* in Title, it worked. 2. Search Form To be able to search "*keyword*" (in title, in my case) in an easier way (without having to enter the asterisks), you can simplify the default search form to something like this: <form action="categories.html" method="POST"> <p>Select files of type: <select name="title"> <option value="*Category A*" selected>List Category A</option> <option value="*Category B*" selected>List Category B</option> </select> <p><input type="submit"></p> </form> 3. Results Form If necessary, modify the default search results form to list URLs to files. 4. Further improvements If you want to combine steps 2 & 3 into one page, refer to http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/Zope/ZopeForm/page6.html Instead of his <dtml-if submit>, I have <dtml-if title>, also for the dtml-else tag. Again, thanks to those who helped.. Cheers Sean

<dtml-tree> from multiple SQL tables
by Will Stephenson 24 Nov '03

24 Nov '03

I know this is a FAQ, but I haven't found the question completely answered anywhere yet. I'm trying to generate a 2-level <dtml-tree> from a pair of SQL tables. I've read anthony's "Some Neat Tricks with dtml-tree" which suggests (with a single table) using a query that returns the children for the specified parent in branches_expr. I've extrapolated from this to make branches_expr a Python script that should query the appropriate table depending if we are trying to draw the children of the root, or their children: if int(parentId) == 0: return container.query.treeCategories() elif int(parentId) > 0: return container.query.treeSubCategories(category=(int(parentId)) (2 tables, category and subcategory) Both queries return 'id' and 'name' fields, where id is unique among sibling nodes (it's a primary key from the tables). However anthony's page mentions a missing 'tpId' attribute, but stops before explaining how to set this, or to spoof it. My tree expands very strangely - expanded branches always contain the top level Categories recursively, not the subcategories. I also saw Tino Wildenhain's posting http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2000-June/111642.html where he mentioned offsetting the ids to guarantee uniqueness. I thought this might mean all ids have to be unique in the entire tree, so I employed a similar strategy, but it hasn't got me anywhere yet. Can anyone explain how it should be done, or point me to a good example? Thanks in advance Will -- Will Stephenson
