undo tab at root level hangs forever - db problem?
by simon e. la rosa 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

hi, got one cmf (1.3.1) - plone (1.0.1) site going on a mandrake 9.1 box. Zope Version: Zope 2.6.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, linux2) Python Version: 2.1.3 (#1, Apr 19 2003, 01:08:28) [GCC 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.2-3mdk)] System Platform: linux2 behind apache on the same box. has been working with no worries for about 10 months. i've been on a 10 days holidays with no internet connection. today i came back and if i try to go to Control_Panel --> Database_Management it hangs with no error message. if i try to go from the zope root folder to the undo tab it hangs, sometimes painting just the first 10 or 20 pixels from the top. i guess the problem has something to do with the images stored in the db which cannot be rightly retrieved. i tried to go into the cmf site directly (not through apache) with lynx from localhost and it does work (both cmf site and root_folder undo). maybe somebody (2 other not so savvy people got #root) messed up with the unix system date - it was 2 hours in advance. the undo list states that the product formulator was installed today (i haven't done any activity on zope for the last 2 weeks) - and that product has been happily working for the last 3 months. all in all, a bit of a mess. i would be grateful if anybody could give me a couple of hints: 1- command line way of browsing the actions list similar to the undo web interface, i.e. a log of transactions. 2- command line way to check and run a consistency routine on the zodb. i went into the utilities directory, but when i try to run the *.py scripts they tell me that the ZOPE object doesn't exist (my encyclopedic ignorance pours out from this silly questions...). thanks, simon

Indexing File Content

Hello, I would like to index File objects in a ZCatalog. DTML methods and documents have the PrincipiaSearchSource method, but what about File objects? Object
by Gilles Lenfant 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

Hi, I made a Product class with unpicklable attributes (compiled TALES expressions). Thus I got to name those _v_foo But for re-creating these attributes, I need to have a hook method called when the object is extracted from ZODB. Is there such a hook method in Zope core classes ? Thanks in advance. --Gilles

how to catalog an object, overiding its allowedRolesAndUsers Keyword index
by Jean Baltus 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

Hi all, I'm adding some items to the Catalog from an external script. The problem is that when I do that, the allowedRolesAndUsers index of the items is set to 'Manager' which prevents users to find them with the search interface of CMF. Do you know how to set that index when I catalog my items. Here is the idea of the cataloguing script: class Catalogabled: pass def catalog(self): catalogTool = getToolByName(self, 'portal_catalog') urlTool = getToolByName(self, 'portal_url') db = open('somefile', 'r') for line in db.readlines(): li = line.split('|') newObject = Catalogabled() newObject.id = someGeneratedId newObject.Title = li[4] newObject.Description = li[16] newObject.Type = 'someType' newObject.meta_type = 'someType' newObject.portal_type = 'someType' newObject.SearchableText = li[4] newObject.Creator = 'toto5' newObject.getIcon = 'document_icon.gif' newObject.review_state = 'published' catalogTool.catalog_object(newObject, '%s/catalogs_view?id=%s' %( urlTool.getPortalPath(), newObject.id)) How can I override the ['Manager'] allowedRolesAndUsers index that is set automatically ? Thanks in advance, -- Jean

inheritedAttribute doesn't seem to work
by Matt 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

inheritedAttribute does not seem to work for me. The situation is summarized as follows I have the following module in a the std python path /usr/local/lib/python/site-packages/PackageA/ModuleA ModuleA defines 20 different classes, and factory methods to generate instances of these. In a zope product in zope/lib/python/Products/MyProduct I have the following in MyProduct.py from PackageA import ModuleA class MyProduct( Folder.Folder, Persistent, Implicit ): blah ( manage options, security, metatype etc) def __init__(self, id, title, name ): self.id = id self.title = title self.name = name self.dataModels = [] def addModel( self, textData ): """Add some data""" self.dataModels.append( Data( textData ) ) self._p_changed = 1 class Data: blah (security) def __init__( self, dataText ): self.dataModel = ModuleA.generateModel( dataText ) the generateModel( dataText ) is a text parser, and factory locator and caller. To get secirty settings into the 20 or so Classes in ModuleA I needed to proxy them in the product here. The model that is generated is basically a directed acyclic graph, with one top node, which is an object of type Model. The proxy object for model looks like the following class ModelProxy( ModuleA.model ): blah( security settings) def __init__( self, attributeDict, parentObject ): ModuleA.model.__init__( self, attributeDict, parentObject ) # attributeDict, parentObject are simply attributed that are passed by the text parser # to construct in this case a Model object This all works fine, and I end up with happily constructed models in the dataModels attribute of MyProduct with all nodes of the graph accessable to python scripts. But then I decided that since I opened up these models to be accessed through python scripting, i.e. the reason for the security proxy objects in the first place, then I should clean up the persistence parts so that changes to the model objects are persisted. I thought adding Persistent into the proxy objects for the 20 different kinds of classes would be sufficient, and of course ran into the "Error Value: unbound method __init__() must be called with instance as first argument" problem. To solve this I tried the following replacement for ModelProxy (and similarly for all the others) class ModelProxy( Persistent, ModuleA.model ): blah( security settings) def __init__( self, attributeDict, parentObject ): Persistent.inheritedAttribute('__init__')( self, attributeDict, parentObject ) but still got the error. I even tried class ModelProxy( Persistent, ModuleA.model ): blah( security settings) _model__init__ = ModuleA.model.__init__ def __init__( self, attributeDict, parentObject ): ModelProxy._model__init__( self, attributeDict, parentObject ) # or self._model__init__( attributeDict, parentObject ) and still got the same error. Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? I am also interested whether simply making the different objects(which are nodes in the DAG) persistent is enough to signal all the way back up MyProduct that self.dataModel has changed when one of the nodes deep in the graph has changed. regards Matt

re: Variable length tables
by garry saddington 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

I have a DTML method which displays the result of a ZSQLmethod in a table. The size of the table is determined by the number of records returned from the database and is variable. As the table grows in size i find that i lose all the html formatting below it resulting in links appearing beside the table instead of below it. I must be doing something wrong but i can't see it. Can anyone help? regards garry

Thanks. I understand. Programatically Adding 3rd Party Products?
by Edward Pollard 31 Jul '03

31 Jul '03

Since reinventing the wheel is a waste of my time, I'd like to use VarImage (seen here:http://www.zope.org/Members/terry/) for some of my dynamic image resizing needs. However, to do this, I need to be able to programatically create VarImage objects via Python scripts. I'm not entirely sure if I can do that. The attempt at cheap and easy solution, replacing calls to manage_addImage with manage_addVarImage, did not work). Is there something I need to do with the product to make its constructor usable in such a fashion? Thanks, Edward
