Help pages done with zpt
by Fernando Martins 24 Jun '03

In the Zope book (Extending zope), an Help Topic is created using DTML. I don't see in no place of the ZMI a way to indicate this Help Topic is being done with a Page Template. Are there any plans to have Help Topics supporting Page Templates? Regards, Fernando

product install problem (was Re: how to use LocalFS to expose F/S directory?
by Bill Andrews 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

OK, thanks JCC -- then I don't have the LocalFS package installed correctly. The "LocalFS portal" is not something I saw, just that I thought I should see something in "Add" list - and now I know it should say "Local File System". On my /Control Panel/Products page in Zope I see a bunch of products that are installed and they each have a little "package" icon next to the checkbox - all package icons are of closed packages, but the LocalFS package icon is different - icon of an unwrapped, open package. Is there a step I missed during installation? Thanx, Bill --- On 6/23/03 J Cameron Cooper <jccooper(a)jcameroncooper.com> wrote: I don't know what the "LocalFS portal" business is about. Maybe it's some derivative of LocalFS? My installation of LocalFS puts a "Local File System" product in the add list, and when I try to add one asks simply for name, title, and base path. Works exactly as expected. I might, for instance, say id: monkeybutter title: The directory containing monkeys and butter. Fun! base path: /tmp/foo and magically I could retrieve the file '/tmp/foo/monkey' as 'http://localhost:8080/monkeybutter/monkey' --jcc __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! RE: [Zope] do i have to have root rights in order to install zope on linux machine?
by Jean-Francois.Doyon＠CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca 24 Jun '03

Not really, the only reson you might want/need root is if you want it to listen on a port < 1024 ... (It uses 8080 by default) Otherwise, it's actually a good idea NOT to run it as root anyways ... Access Rule
by Andrew R. Halko 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

I asked a similar question on the plone mailing list, so sorry guys for a repeat. I created an access rule in Plone, not the root and I need to find if a user is logged in. I was told that can't be done, but doesn't there have to be a something transferred between pages to tell if someone is logged in. A session variable set somewhere or something. I figured maybe this was more of a Zope thing than Plone. Thanks! Andrew R. Halko

zope:Japanese characters
by chris＠capital-concept.com 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm trying to use ZOPE to maintain a Japanese site. I'm currently using a SONY VAIO with a japanese windows 2000 OS. I have an English version of ZOPE installed and running. I can type and cut/paste Japanese characters with no problem. However if I revist the same page all the Japanese character come out like this: クオリテック株 〒116-0013 東京都 荒川区西日暮里 2-19-4 たちばなビル８階 Is there something I can do to get Japanese characters to render correctly in ZOPE? Thank You Chris

Summing ZSQL Column Values
by abg＠comco-inc.com 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

What is the most efficient method of iterating through ZSQL rows and displaying the sum of a specific column? For example, suppose my table looks like: ------------------ |Col1 |Col2 |Col3| ------------------ |13 |51 |90 | ------------------ |23 |45 |67 | ------------------ What's the best way to sum and display the values in Col1 using a Python Script or DTML Method? My actual database is quite large, so efficiency is a concern. Thanks, Aaron abg(a)comco-inc.com

DBTab question
by Thierry FLORAC 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

Hi, I'm currently using DBTab (1.2) to split my Zope database into three entities : - a Data.fs for my "main" database - a Catalog.fs for my huge "full-text indexing" catalog - a Users.fs to store my users database. These three databases are always and heavilly used by every request. I'm now going to add several new specific applications. For each of these applications, I'd like to create a new data file specific to it, but I have a few questions about this : - does it have any drawback ? - is there any limit on the number of data files that can be used without performance loss ? - when a request is received which doesn't implies any of these specific applications, are database connections automatically opened on them or not ? Thanks for any advise... Thierry -- Linux every day, keeps Dr Watson away... http://gpc.sourceforge.net -- http://www.ulthar.net

Best way to store data into objects.
by Paolo Dina 24 Jun '03

24 Jun '03

Hi all! I'm planning a web site for companies catalogation based on tipology of products they treat with. In brief, for each company i need to store information like company name, a short description of their products, phone number, address, logo and so on. After this phase, the object that represent the company will be "saved" in a folder located in a structure like this: /root + Companies +-- Dresses +-- Shoes +-- Hats +-- Shirts +-- Hobbies +-- Fishing +-- Skateboards etc. Well, to keep the implementation simple, my thought is to store these data into a product "ad hoc" to this aim like PropertyFolder/PropertyObject OR Kube. They look quite similar and really i have problem deciding which one to use. Suggestions? Btw, the fact of don't store data in a real database server for a such simple applications is a good choice? Or maybe you would give better hints? Thanks. Paolo Dina
