I did not mean to save it after the browser failed to open the pdf file. I meant to right-click on the hyperlink to the file, and select "Save Link As.." or "Save Target As..." (the exact wording depends on the browser). That would have the browser save the file without trying to display it first. Cheers, Tom P

When you are creating a page with Zope, there are no "html-objects" to access. They will not exist until the browser displays the page. By this time, Zope has no connection with the page anymore. If you want something to happen in the browser, you will have to write the scripting code to do in _in the browser_. You can have Zope put that code on the page, but Zope cannot interact with the page. The closest you can come to simulating an interaction with Zope is by using another frame. This could be an Iframe embedded in the main page and made invisible by styling. You can load a new page into the frame, and then use Javascript to interact between that frame and the parent page. I doubt that this is what you have in mind, though. (There are browser-specific techniques that you can sometimes use too). Cheers, Tom P

It may have been with Interbase or MySQL. It turned out that I had to use a different format for the connection string. I finally found an example somewhere and it worked when I tried it. Depending on the adapter, often the default string works and you do not need to type one in yourself. Why don't you tell us what database, adapter, version, and OS you are using, along with examples of connections strings that you though should work but do not? Cheers, Tom P

Can you tell if it has something to do with the file size? Perhaps the problem files are the only ones over some size, like 64K or whatever. Authentication using a form instead of a popup

Hi all! I have an intranet which has a restricted access, so users have to authenticate before entering in it. But I don't want the authentication to be done by a popup window, so I've made two DTML methods. The first is the authentication form itself, which asks for name and password: <form name="userdata" action="check" method="get"> <p>User: <input type="text" name="username"></p> <p>Password: <input type="password" name="userpassword"></p> <input type="submit" value="Enter"> </form> The second is the DTML method that makes the checkings, and it is called check: <dtml-if "acl_users.authenticate(username,userpassword,REQUEST)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('intranet')"> <dtml-else> Error!! </dtml-if> The "acl_users.authenticate" part seems to work OK, as it returns an error if the user or password is wrong. And if they are OK, it tries to redirect to the intranet, that is to say, the restricted part. But the problem is that at this time it asks again for username and password, using a popup window. What I am doing wrong, or what am I missing? Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Igor Leturia

How to access html-objects in DTML or python? With JavaScript I can access objects, like the table-data with obj=document.getElementById(id) (and have something like <td id="RC1_1">). Then I can change its attributes like obj.bgColor=#FFFFFF. But herefore, I have to enable JavaScript. Is there anyway to do this with DTML or python? Wim
