again Zope and RedHat 9 threading problem

Hi, I have problems - *which freaks me out* - to start more than one Zope thread on RedHat 9.0. What I tried: a) upgraded kernel to 2.4.20-13.9 b) upgraded glibc,glibc-common,glibc-devel to 2.3.2-27.9 c) tried "export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1" d) started z2.py as root or as unpriviligted user I use RedHat's python2.2.2 and Zope-2.6.2b1 from source. The postings "Zope and RedHat 9" http://www.dzug.org/mailinglisten/zope-org-zope/archive/2003/2003-04/105169… didn't help. Any other ideas? Saluti, Marcus

Calling a function, which deletes an element of a list, from a hyperlink and returning a display page from that function. The URL in the browser address bar shows the the call to the function (and passed variables). How do you change the returned URL so that the display page shows the changes? We tried RESPONSE.redirect(foo) and that worked except the display page didn't show the changes that had been made. The browser didn't reload the page (perhaps assuming it was not changed and used the cached version?) John -

How to override DTMLFile?

I want to override DTMLFile from Globals in my own special product. I managed to do this:: class PeterDTMLFile(DTMLFile): def foo(self): return "works" Then from somewhere else I do:: manage_edit = PeterDTMLFile('dtml/manage_edit', globals()) This works but doing <dtml-var foo> raises a KeyError. I've looked at Localizer and how they override DTMLFile's __init__ and _exec method. But if I try to do:: # pointless inheritance hack but for testing class PeterDTMLFile(DTMLFile): def __init__(self, name, _prefix=None, **kw): apply(DTMLFile.inheritedAttribute('__init__'), (self, name, _prefix), kw) Which in effect is pretty pointless, I get the following error when trying my manage_edit:: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 62, in mapply AttributeError: 'None' object has no attribute 'co_varnames' So, can anybody tell me how to override the DTMLFile class (and possible also the PageTemplateFile) Grateful, Peter

I keep trying to unsubscribe from the list, since I am not using Zope any more. The mailman keeps telling me that I am not subscribed, but I keep getting an email here and there which DO NOT appear to be addressed to me, but the Zope list, which I am supposedly no longer a part of. It's very confusing. Instead, return a data structure to the calling page and let the page format the data - either with dhtml or zpt, it doesn't matter in this regard. Writing markup with Python has two big problems, good though Python is - 1) It is really hard to get markup right, as Andreas's example shows. Little errors are easy to make and hard to see. 2) If you want to change the look of the page, you have to rewrite your script, which is painful and prone to the same errors all over again. Using Zope templates, on the other hand, has the following strengths - 1) They are designed exactly for taking data and formatting it into markup, so it is much easier to get the markup right and to spot errors. 2) Page maintenance and changes in appearance are easy to do and do not affect the logic used in the scripts that create the data. All you have to do is have your script return the results of its computation in the form of a string, a list, a tuple, or a dictionary. The template can access all the returned data and format it. I have done it both ways - with pretty complex pages - and I can tell you that it is worth the effort to change your mental habits (which is what it takes) to find ways to just return data and not markup. Let scripts do what they do well, and let the templates do what __they__ do well.

acess permission

Hi there, I am having problems with acess permissions. I want to control the access of all the data in a particular folder to authorised users only. Basically I do not want anonymous users to even view the dtml documents that are in that particular folder. I unchecked all the permisions to anonymous users in the acl-users folder. but that does not seem to be working. I can view the documents from web interface with out giving login and password.
