Hint 2: read docs/SETUID.txt as suggested. You have to start Zope as root to use port 80, but Zope doesn't want to always run as root for security reasons. Jump through the hoops there (such as adding a -u user switch, plus directory permissions) and it will probably work. --jcc

by Michele Ruberl 10 Apr '03

Hello, does anybody knows anything about a Zope product for making tests / quizs? (this is for a courseware environment) Someone told me that there's something about that around, but I couldn't find it on Zope.org nor googling.... Thanks in advance for your answers :-) Mik

addFile and getFiles Problem
by Zope＠Stylus 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

Hi all I am working on Zope2.5.1 Page Templates installed on Mandrake Linux 8.3 .The RDBMS I am using is Postgresql-7.2.2. On going through the examples that come as apart of Zope Installation I noticed the python Function addFile Script (Python) at /Examples/FileLibrary/addFile This allows a user to add a file to the directory "Files" in the Examples/FileLibrary Folder. This folder also has examples of getFiles and getSize getLink ###I am including the the addFile and getFiles code here .... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- """addFile(file) Adds a file to the library. """ from Products.PythonScripts.standard import url_quote # create the file container.Files.manage_adProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFile(id='', title='', file=file) .......................... ........................... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- """getFiles(sort='id', reverse=0) Returns a list of files sorted by id, date, type or size. """ files=container.Files.objectValues('File') # build arguments for sequence.sort if sort=='id': if not reverse: args=(('getId',),) else: args=(('getId', 'cmp', 'desc'),) .............. ............................ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- In this case the container where the new file or Folder is to be added ("container.Files") is explicitly stated. So if i call this function from some other file and try to add a file it again adds a file in the "Files" container. I am having a Content management System made using Zope although not exactly implementing the full functionality of the CMF. This System allows a user based on permisions to add Folders and files which can be viewed by others. The problem here is that when a folder is added I will need to include by default the addFile, getFiles, getSize, getLink python scripts in all New folders added by a user. That means 4 new files have to be added to a new Folder everytime I add a folder. These four Python Scripts will have to be aded dynamically when i create a new Foldwer so that if I add it will accpet the current conatiner as the default container for adding a file into.I am not sure how I will be able to change the scripting in the Python files if necessary at run time either or how to write into or read from a file at runtime....Anyway that is going away from my problem..... Alos if it is necessary to add a file by default in a folder when a new folder is created what function can I call?? But if I had only these 4 Python Scripts (addFile, getFiles, getSize, getLink ) at the root of my application and i could tell the function when I called it... in which container to add the file then the whole issue would be resolved althought I dont know how to.. By sending the conatiner path as a string it is not going to work because the adFile, getFile scripts expects a Container Object. Can you suggest how I can keep the four files at the Root of my application and keep adding files in to any of the Subfolders by passing the reference of that particular subFolder or container.I am sure that there is some way to do it.But I dont know how.. Please help me out. Thanks and Best regards John Kunchandy --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Can # of query results returned be limited?
by Michael Lewis 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

I was just wondering if the total number of query results returned on a dtml-in Catalog could be limited. I know that "size=" limits the batch size, but can't seem to find if it is possible to limit the total number. Michael -- Michael Lewis <michael(a)nichestaffing.com> NicheStaffing.com

Previous item in <dtml-in>
by Jamie 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

I am trying to build a dtml method that will allow me to graphically change the sort order of some objects. The objects I want to sort are Content objects, with an integer property of SortOrder. This is what I have so far: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <form> <table> <tr> <td rowspan=2> <select size="10" height="100" multiple name="order"> <dtml-in sort> <option value=<dtml-var id>><dtml-var id></option> </dtml-in> </select> </td> <td> <input type="button" value="Up" /> </td> <tr> <td> <input type="button" value="down"> </td> </tr> </table> </form> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> The sort python script returns a list of all the Content objects sorted by SortOrder. What I need to know is if there is a way to send the previous or next item from a list rendered by <dtml-in> to a python script, can anyone help me with this? Thanks, Jamie White Jamie(a)brobus.net

Newbie question - Editing content and workflow
by mrmchodge＠netscape.net 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

Hi All, I'm new to Zope and this list. I have bought "The Zope book" and installed it etc. and think it's a great dev environment. A few questions I would like to ask please? 1) How do you accommodate for users maintaing their content who have little or none HTML experience? I have seen HTMLArea (http://www.interactivetools.com/products/htmlarea/) has anyone used this with Zope? Or is there a product that people use or recommend? 2) What the best way for maintaining workflow? 3) Is there a newbies zope list as this list seems geared to the more experienced user? CMF getMemberById and local roles
by Etienne Labuschagne 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

Hi there, I created a role called Administrator - for "power" users with not quite all the rights as a Manager. I assign this role locally to a user. In the root folder's security I mark that Administrator must have the right "Manage Portal" - this is needed by the portal_membership.getMemberById method. A quick peek in DocFinderEverywhere shows now that both Manager and Administrator can access getMemberById. Well, it doesn't work that way :(. I get the following error: Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access getMemberById in this context When stepping through the Python script that calls this, I can check the following: context.portal_membership.checkPermission('Manage Portal',context) this returns 0, thus saying that I don't have this permission. What am I doing wrong? I can't assign a proxy role to the script as it is a script in a skin folder - scripts in skin folders can't be assigned proxy roles until the next CMF version. I can't wait until the next CMF version! ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks Etienne Labuschagne

Accessing parent's methods/attrs from a child object
by Chad Nantais 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

I have a container objectManager called 'Vehicle'. 'Repair', which is a simpleItem, is stored inside a Vehicle instance. When a Repair is created or edited, it should update the containing Vehicle's odometer reading by calling updateOdometer(newreading) on the Vehicle it is belongs to. I tried adding self.aq_parent.updateOdometer(newReading) to Repair.py's update method. <code> def update(self, number=None, date=None, odometer=None, REQUEST=None): ''' Update repair properties ''' if number is not None: self._number = number if date is not None: try: self._date = date.year + '-' + date.month + '-' + date.day except: self._date = date if odometer is not None: self._odometer = int(odometer) self.aq_parent.updateOdometer(self._odometer) </code> The result was an attribute error (updateOdometer). Am I misusing aq_parent in this context? Basically, I need to know how to access methods and attributes of the parent object from within a child class. Thanks in advance. Chad
