Debugging and Environment Variables
by Derek Basch 01 Apr '03

I am stuck on a minor problem that someone here could probably help me with. I have posted this a few times now and gotten no answers so ANY help is greatly appreciated. I am trying to simulate an HTTP request to the Zope Server using the techniques described in the "Testing and Debugging" chapter of the Developers Guide: >>> ZPublisher.Zope('') Status: 200 OK X-Powered-By: Zope (www.zope.org) Python (www.python.org) Content-Length: 1238 Content-Type: text/html <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Zope</TITLE> ... blah blah... </BODY></HTML> >>> However, I am unable to get the simulated HTTP requests to return anything when I mimic the tutorial: >>> >>> ZPublisher.Zope('http://localhost:8080/') Status: 404 Not Found ..... <P><STRONG>Resource not found</STRONG></P> Sorry, the requested resource does not exist.<p>Check the URL and try again.</p><p><b>Resource:</b> http://127.0.0.1/Zope/h ttp%3A</p> ..... >>> I noticed that (http://127.0.0.1/Zope/h ttp%3A) is being called instead of (http://127.0.0.1:8080/) It seems that I need to set the SERVER_URL environment variable to (http://localhost:8080/) I have tried doing so like this: >>> ZPublisher.Zope("http://localhost:8080/", -e SERVER_URL="http://localhost:8080") but I get a syntax error. Can ANYONE answer my (apparently) stupid questions? Do I need to set the SERVER_URL environment variable prior to debugging? Is there something wrong with my Zope installation? Am I retarded beyond belief? Thanks Everyone, Derek Basch __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Newbie (again) using PIDDLE with Zope
by Ashley Lloyd 01 Apr '03

01 Apr '03

Hi, I asked a question about this a few weeks ago, and didn't get very far, so I have a more specific question for anyone using PIDDLE with Zope (or anyone else with any ideas): I am using Zope 2.5.1, Win 2000 (sorry), PIDDLE 1.0.15. As you will soon learn I am quite new to Zope, and Python, and even OOP as a whole, so please bear with me! I am hoping to use piddle to generate PDF documents on-the-fly, and the current train of thought is: in response to a user request, create a PDF document in a localfs instance, then open that document. I am currently trying to just get testpdfgen.py to work from inside Zope, as an external method. (For those unfamiliar with piddle, this should just create a test pdf document, demonstrating that it works). I have changed testpdfgen.py only very slightly - giving a (hopefully) valid filename in the localfs instance for file creation. testpdfgen is in the Extensions folder, and a few methods it requires (pdfgen, pdfutils, pdfdoc, pdfgeom, pdfmetrics) have been copied into my_Zope_Instance/bin/lib. I have an external method in Zope, called testpdfgen, which is linked to the run function in testpdfgen.py. I have a method that calls <dtml-call testpdfgen>, which results in the following error: _______________________________________________________________________ Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: 'pdfgen' module has no attribute 'Canvas' Error Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\PROGRA~1\ZopeSite\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Try.py", line 149, in render_try_except result = render_blocks(self.section, md) File "C:\PROGRA~1\ZopeSite\lib\python\Products\ExternalMethod\ExternalMethod.py", line 198, in __call__ try: return apply(f,args,kw) File "C:\PROGRA~1\ZopeSite\Extensions\testpdfgen.py", line 127, in run c = pdfgen.Canvas('/TFEye/localfiles/testpdfgen.pdf') AttributeError: 'pdfgen' module has no attribute 'Canvas' _______________________________________________________________________ Canvas is a class defined in pdfgen. I know there will be a simple answer from those of you in the know, I'm just nowhere near in the know yet! Re: [Zope] Using an object's permissions and ownership properties

how would I go about implementing this? > > you don't have to use the ownership attribute. The owner automagically > has a role "Owner" on objects he/she owns. > > So restricting access to only allow the "Owner" role to access these > functions should get you where you want. > > These restrictions can be set just as you would other permissions, and > the "Owner" role is no more special than the Manager or Anonymous > ones. > > For more info, see the security chapter in the latest edition of the Zope book This is the behavior I expected. This is how permissions have been implemented: security.declareProtected('Owner', 'addEntryForm') def addEntryForm(self, REQUEST=None): "Method to show form used to add an entry to an AddresBook" Content_Main = PageTemplateFile('addEntryForm.pt', _wwwdir) setattr(PMAddressBooklet, 'Content_Main', Content_Main) if REQUEST is not None: return self.Template_index_html(self, REQUEST) #Declare permission defaults security.setPermissionDefault('Owner', ['Manager', 'Owner']) What am I missing? Thanks

There is no should involved. :) But yes, in this case that is in fact a much better idea than mine! :) > If you want to use send(...) to send only content, you should format > your messageText as messageText="\n"+messageBody. It doesn't work, all whitespace in the messagebody is removed before it's munged.

Why a file form doesn't work in a "showModalDialog" javascript
by Jean Baltus 01 Apr '03

01 Apr '03

Hi all, I included the following code in a web page to be able to upload an image into the zodb: <form method="POST" name="frmImageUpload" enctype="multipart/form-data" action="uploadImage"> Upload Image: <BR> <input type="file" name="file" size="40"/> <input type="submit" name="upload" value="upload"/> </form> The processor script "ploadImage.py begins with : ## Script (Python) "uploadImage" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath #parameters: file='' ##title=Upload an image file = context.REQUEST.get('file', '') filename = file.filename . The form works well if I use it in a web page, but when I call this webpage using a showModalDialog javascript function (I need to do this to retrieve values from the webpage when the window is closed.), the form doesn't work anymore. Actually, the uploadImage script thinks that "file" is a String and not a file anymore --> it can't retrieve the filename attribute and the rest of the script will crash. And this is just if my webpage is called from a showModalDialog javascript function. Is there any "context" related tricks here ??? Any clue on this? -- Jean

http authentication with custom forms
by Garikoitz Araolaza 01 Apr '03

01 Apr '03

Hi! Quick question: Is cookieCrumbler the only Product-solution to do authentication with custom defined forms? (Leaving aside CMF, I mean...) Is there any other solution to authenticate in a Zope User Folder using custom forms and not the authentication http pop-up ? MailHost under Zope 2.6.1
by Andreas Tille 01 Apr '03

01 Apr '03

Hello, I just used mailhost=getattr(context, context.superValues('Mail Host')[0].id) mailhost.send('Hello', 'you(a)something.org', 'me(a)anything.org', 'Test') to send mails under Zope 2.5.x. Once I updated to Zope 2.6.1 Mails via this method are quite strange. They have no subject in the Mail header but the body part contains: Subject: Test To: you(a)something.org From: me(a)anything.org Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 10:24:00 +0200 Hello This is really strange and so I searched the web and found http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Mail/Message/zope-List/1412602 Unfortunately that is not the solution but a hint to search the list archive for the problem. I have to admit that I failed to find the solution the sender was refering to. Any hints? Kind regards Andreas. -- Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind. John F. Kennedy
