does fsdump dump content objects to the file system?

Hi We have a requirement to export the content objects of a large plone based intranet site out to a windows filesystem. This would be carried out on a once a week basis in addition to daily back up of the ZODB. Management need to know that all their digital assets are available from outside the ZODB incase of disaster or for any future migration purposes (Hopefully not required!) I got a tip off about Tres Seaver's fsdump product and have been trying it out on Plone 2.5.3 and Zope 2.9.7 Followed all the readmes and instructions. Created a dumper object and performed a site dump. I'm only getting .metadata and reference_catalog.catalog, uid_catalog etc files coming out. The site has published folders and files/images etc. I've tried creating a /home folder with only images and files underneath that and a dump only results in .metadata from there. Had a look at the code and it looks like it is set-up to dump folders and files/images etc. Probably missing something. Any comment appreciated. Thanks -- michael

Where is zope.app.workflow now?

Hi, I am reading the chapter on workflow in Stephan's Zope3 developers' handbook and would like to try the samples. However the server wouldn't start due to the missing zope.app.workflow package. This package seems no longer existing in the latest stable release of zope3. What happened to the package? Hi thinking along the lines of exporting file objects onto the filesystem as their original file type so file system storage isn't quite right. This type of issue must have come up before as it's a big managerial concern to be able to extract all files from a site. grabbing the url query string

I would like to have a url that I can use to address a zope object where I grab the query string and 'do something with it'. The issue is I want to be able to do this for any/all zope objects. For example lets say I have a zpt in my site called http://mzope.edu/zopeobject I would like to be able to do http://mzope.edu/zopeobject?id=129292 and have a way to capture the value of 'id'.. The use case I have in mind is a set of emails where I hand out a url to a page in a zope or plone zie that has a key or tag on it like the id above. In one set of email id=abc, in another set the id=xyz. I want to track 'clicks' based on which mailing generated the click. But I want to be able to apply the 'method' to any/all zope objects. APE - are there plans for a new version for higher Zopes ?

Hi Have been looking into running a script which would export all the file objects and folder structure of a site out onto an area on the filesystem. This would be a management requirement as once a week they would like to take a copy of all the assets separate from the ZODB. This product looks good but I realise that it only runs with Zope 2.7. Just wondering if there is a plan at all to upgrade it simply for file system export? http://plone.org/products/ape/ Thanks -- michael

how to install zope eggs

hi there, I would like to install an egg that depends on zope eggs installed (i18ndude) this of course can easily be done with easy_install. however afterwards non of my zope installations (and I have a number of them on the system) are working anymore because python is picking up some parts of the installed zope eggs. with no-deps I can avoid installing the zope eggs but the i18ndude does not work anymore. how can I install zope eggs (or i18ndude that is) such that my zope installations still work? or phrased differently: how can I install the zope eggs into a given zope instance? thanks robert

handling exceptions for external methods

I've begun using external methods and am trying to better understand the context they run and and how to handle exceptions. I have concluded the following (and I don't recall reading some of these in any documentation) (please correct me if I'm wrong) 1 external methods run in the same interpreter as zope 2 external methods have access to a larger namespace and therefor more functionality 3 external methods inherit the same namespace available to scripts running inside zope 4 external methods are not launched as forked or spawned child processes 5 external methods do not have access to stdin/stdout 6 external methods must return only strings, but they may be unicode string as long as they are valid xml string data Something that I don't understand is how to handle an exception.
