Re: ZPT Equivalent of <dtml-var title_or_id>

Hi, have you put a title in your ZPT? Or only the id? If you want the title or the id you have to say "template/title_or_id" or "here/title_or_id". Cheers, Egon Am 6 Jan 2003, um 11:54 hat zope-request(a)zope.org geschrieben: > > Message: 2 > Date: Sun, 05 Jan 2003 13:06:40 -0400 > To: zope(a)zope.org > From: beno <zope(a)thewebsons.com> > Subject: [Zope] ZPT Equivalent of <dtml-var title_or_id> > > I thought this would be easy but apparently it's not. > The sample ZPT sheet in the 2.6 distro has this line of code: > > <title tal:content="template/title">The Title</title> > > Unfortunately, that doesn't render a thing! Oops. The problem was that I didn't change &dtml-id; to &dtml-objectValue; Sorry! And thank you! beno At 07:06 PM 1/6/2003 +0000, you wrote: ><dtml-in objectValues> >will loop you the the objects in the current container By way of trouble-shooting, I threw in a couple of <dtml-var> tags to print stuff to screen. *lang* prints: *id* doesn't. Therefore, the loop isn't functioning. There must be a problem with the calling variable *objectValues*. I've tried all sorts of ways around this to no avail. Further suggestions? RE: [Zope] Thousands of Objects - how do they manifest? (newbie)
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 06 Jan '03

Might not be a bad idea. One paradigm I have found myself gravitating towards is hybrid storage. For example, in an ecommerce site, using a CMF-backed system to keep catalog entries, and create custom actions and skin scripts/queries-to-rdbms/etc for associating relational content with the ID of the catalog entry in the object database, thus maintaining some sort of relationship between content stored in the ODB, and data stored in a RDBMS. Sean -----Original Message----- From: Crosbie Fitch [mailto:crosbie@cyberspaceengineers.org] Sent: Monday, January 06, 2003 10:52 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Thousands of Objects - how do they manifest? (newbie) Thanks for the surprisingly prompt and helpful advice everyone. :-) The primary question I had in my mind was whether persistent objects were necessarily manifest in a folder. If at least hundreds of users might create umpteen new objects/records each day, I was wondering if there might be two kinds of persistent object, i.e. visible and invisible (and whether there would be performance issues if not). I think this is pretty well answered now. BTreeFolder2 sounds like a reasonable solution to the folder containment issue. However, given that creation of new objects/records (bids) is likely to be quite frequent and simultaneous by a wide variety of users, I'm beginning to think that perhaps I'd be better off using an external database. (NB we're talking around 100K bids per item) An external database is also likely to help separate out reliability and scalability issues of the eCommerce data separately from taht of the web site. Now down to the external database. I've gathered so far that probably the best database to start off with would be MySQL for Python (with ZMySQLDA). I expect this can be swapped out with another SQL database if MySQL starts creaking under the load. _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

You can get everything else working, then deal with objectsInTheFolder - <dtml-let lang="REQUEST['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE']"> <dtml-in "[1,2,3]"> <dtml-if "id==lang"> <dtml-var lang> <dtml-else> en </dtml-if> <br> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> Bear in mind that "lang" is not going to be just "en" or whatever, and a basic "en' may occur in several variations. You will probably want to do some string processing on it before doing your comparison. I presume that you will want to call some function or script - you were talking about a redirect earlier. In that case, replace <dtml-var lang> with <dtml-call "your_script(lang)">, and replace "en" with something like <dtml-call "another_script("en"), or use dtml-var if you want something to be displayed on the page. Start simple until you get the basics working, and then still try to keep things simple. Cheers, Tom P

Using Layer with cookies
by Axel.Missbach＠t-online.de 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

On Clientside having an orderform, where the user can select a part after giving some values for a Query(ordernumber, partname,...). the values are send to the dtml-Dcument, where a SQL-Query puts the Data to an array. First writing a cookie, then updating a layer.src="dtml-Document Name", in the end display the array-data. This works fine, until the cookie value has whitespaces(' '). Writing a cookie "value="a b c";expires...", on Clientside(the mainform) the REQUEST.cookie is korrekt, but on the serverside(the layer.src) the REQUEST shows only cookies: value="a" Why is the value truncated? Is there another way to get dynamic Data in a html-form? thanks Axel

Question: Files and history
by Daniel Talas 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

I know this has been asked before, but I need a definite answer before we can pick ZOPE as our platform of choice for a project. One of the major requirements is to be able to view history for files (docs, images, etc), and be able to view the actual file @ any point in the history. Basically, we need "history" functionality that ZOPE currently provides for such objects as Scripts, DTML Methods, etc. The question is, has it been done before? Is there a ZOPE product that has this functionality. Would it be difficult to extend an existing class to add this functionality? I tried to follow one of the suggestions in this mailing list (extending the class from History.Historical), but that rendered my product invalid. Any help would be appreciated! Regards, Daniel.

which auth package to start with
by David Bear 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

I need to write an external python script to plug into our authentication system. Its a cookie based system. Basically, I open a socket to an auth server, send a cookie to it, if the cookie as a valid one, I get an okay back. If not, I need to send it to an auth page. The auth page is on a different machine. It prompts the user for credentials (id/password) over an https connection. It then checks kerberos for that user and if okay, sends a cookie back to the browser. In short, I don't need to create a cookie, just grab one, send it over socket, and come back with an okay or not okay. Any recommendations on which authenticaion package to start with? cookie crumbler? -- David Bear College of Public Programs/ASU Mail Code 0803
