RE: [Zope] Why is index_html() called instead of __call__()?

Further, this is the *only* way to do it. As I've noticed recently, any attempts to delete index_html in the root folder will result in recreation at the next upgrade (for Debian at least). Because there will always be an index_html in the heirarchy, there is no way to affect behavior by defining __call__. Because there is no hook before index_html, is is impossible to (cleanly) make an object that renders itself sometimes, and allows index_html to do it at other times. > It sounds like the > PropertyFolder implementation might want to do something like: > > class PropertyFolder(...): > def __call__(...): > ... > > # alias to be sure we always control our rendering > index_html = __call__ This would result in never being able to call the index_html in the ZODB. --kyler

Newbie Question: date formatting/Context
by Ashley Lloyd 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

I am new to both Zope and OOP, so please be patient with my ignorance and stupidity! I am running Zope 2.5.1, connecting to an InterBase db using kinterbas. I have been experiencing problems attempting to retrieve any date values from the db in any format other than YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.ss. In an attempt to solve this I have downloaded mxDateTime, and have been able to use this fine in the Python IDLE environment, but not in Zope. I saved a small Python script in my Zope environment just to try it out: from mx.DateTime import * while 1: return now().hour However, when attempting to test this I get prompted for username/password (I am logged in as a manager etc) and then get the following error: Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access DateTime in this context I have been trying to read about this, and the books seem to say that this can happen, but not what to do about it. If anyone can help with any part of the problem (the security problem or another option for date formatting - or both!!) I'd be grateful. Kind regards Ashley PS Sorry if this question appears twice - I tried to post earlier in the day and cannot seem to find any sign of it. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

Hi; Here's my code. I know there are all sorts of errors. But I'm not sure where in the documentation to find the corrections (other than somewhere in the Zope Book). Warning: TextIndexNG 1.07 corrups your objects if you have casefolding on
by Heimo Laukkanen 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

Hi ya, this is a very strange bug that I my collegue found, I hunted down that TextIndexNG is the cause for it. Short description: When TextIndexNG is used and case folding is on, TextIndexNG seems to corrupt the object - ie. putting the case folded content to the object that it indexed! Below is my story. Situation: Site with propertyObjects, propertyFolders and ZCatalog that has TextIndexNG fields. Some propertyObjects / folders have a field called content, which is uText of type and is indexed into TextIndexNG. If in TextIndexNG we have case folding turned on, then after we save changes to propertyObject/Folder ( and object indexes itself automaticly to Catalog ) the content in content-field loses it's case. And if we turn off the case folding, then casing stays. In TextIndexNG it does not matter, wether the id for index is content or something else - as long as content-attribute is indexed. I didn't look into TextIndexNG code, but I assume that somewhere there is a bug that takes the object attribute instead of just the value of it, and thisway also screws up the object. This was really evil bug, since it was hard to get - and when we saw it - then it had allready corrupted a lot of files that had content. -huima

password change and cookie crumbler
by Ben Avery 06 Jan '03

06 Jan '03

hi, happy new year everyone! I'm stuck on a problem involving cookie crumbler authentication: I'm building a site which requires users to register their own accounts and log in. When the users are created, I generate a password for them. But I need to allow the users to change their own passwords. At the moment I'm using a python script which picks up the new password and confirmation from a form, and does this (after checking the new password and confirmation match): ------ user = request.AUTHENTICATED_USER uid=user.getId() myreq={} myreq['name']=uid myreq['password']=request['new_pwd1'] myreq['confirm']=request['new_pwd1'] context.acl_users.manage_users( submit='Change', REQUEST=myreq ) response.redirect( '%s/changed/' % request.URL2 ) return ------- The code manages to change the password successfully, but I cannot then view the confirmation page, and am redirected to CC's login_form page, (I think) because the password set in the cookie is now not the same as the updated one in the acl_users user folder. Do you agree that this is the problem here, and if so, what would I have to do to fix this? [Zope 2.6.0, Python 2.1.3, Solaris 7, viewed in Mozilla 1.0.1] TIA Ben Avery
