If any of them depend on the actual value of the current working directory (shame on them!) they will be in trouble. If you know the absolute path, just use that. If you need a path relative to your module, you can get the module to tell you where it (or its owing package) is located and construct paths relative to that - that too is in the Python docs. The os library module has good functions for working with paths. See the docs. Cheers, Tom P

mount backup ZODB (readonly)
by Reinoud van Leeuwen 30 Dec '02

30 Dec '02

Hi, I have a backup of a Zope instance on my disc. I want to get a tree of objects from that backup into my current zope server. Now I could bring zope down, switch the data.fs files, start Zope up, export it en switch back and import it. But I was wondering whether it is possible to mount another data.fs file (readonly) so I can do it in my running zope. I browsed through the products but I did not find anything. Sudden ZOPE Error and Failure
by Deb B. 30 Dec '02

30 Dec '02

Please help. I haven't installed anything new today on my ZOPE server (no products, no new objects/code, etc.) and only had to shut the server down a few times due to another program's processes taking over the machine. This has happened in the past but never without any impact on ZOPE. Now, when I start the server and try to log in to the http://intranet:8080/manage pages, I get the following error and ultimate failure: <--there is a line(s) here that I cannot read in the DOS window but it ends starting here--> obj.handle_error() File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\http_server.py", line 437, in handle_error asynchat.async_chat.handle_error (self) File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medussa\asyncore.py", line 421, in handle_error self.close() File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\HTTPServer.py", line 293, in close p.more() # free up resources held by producer File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\Producers.py", line 36, in more getattr(self.logger, self.method)(self.bytes) File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\http_server.py", line 289, in log ' - %s [%s] "%s" %d %d "%s" "%s"\n' % ( File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\logger.py", line 247, in log self.logger.log ('%s%s' % (ip, message)) File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\logger.py", line 77, in log self.write (message) File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\logger.py", line 53, in write self.maybe_flush() File "D:\IntranetSite\ZServer\medusa\logger.py", line 65, in maybe_flush self.file.flush() IOError: [Errno 91] Bad file descriptor D:\IntranetSite> and my ZOPE is dead! Now, I'm not a programmer. I'm just a solo IT person trying to maintain a moderately sized intranet within a small company. I have no idea how to recover from this error so that I get access to my ZOPE site again. Someone please help! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. using _p_resolveConflict on Folderish object
by Willem Broekema 30 Dec '02

30 Dec '02

Hi all - I'm trying to resolve ConflictErrors in my Product. It might be relevant that the product is derived from 'Folder'. I created a '_p_resolveConflict' function that prints the three state parameters, 'old', 'saved' and 'new'. I was surprised to see that the printed representation of the three states was identical: the data inside 'PR(...) was the same for every subobject. Also, 'oldstate == savedstate' was true, but not 'oldState == newState' or 'oldState is savedState'. I would like to know what's going on here. For example, if 'oldState == newState', can I safely assume that newState is correct and there's no need to merge changes (which changes?) between oldState and savedState? Now follows the printed state, in case that may help explaining this. The 'Feed' insances in the folder are named feed_###. state == { 'feed_view__doc__': 'dummy', '__ac_local_roles__': {'wilm': ['Owner']}, 'index_html__doc__': 'dummy', '_owner': (['acl_users'], 'wilm'), 'cookie_name': 'DF_cat_skin', 'title': '', 'id': 'cat', 'nav_frame__doc__': 'dummy', 'feed_902912': PR(164726636 ('\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\r\x0e', ('Products.DogFeed.DFFeed', 'Feed'))), 'feed_070984': PR(164727028 ('\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\r\x0f', ('Products.DogFeed.DFFeed', 'Feed'))), [...] '_objects': ( {'meta_type': 'DogFeed RSS Feed', 'id': 'feed_902912'}, {'meta_type': 'DogFeed RSS Feed', 'id': 'feed_070984'}, [...] ) } Thanks. - Willem

Packing date screwed up
by Cliff Quinn 30 Dec '02

30 Dec '02

I can't pack my database because at some point, with the machine time set at 2008 (don't ask) it was packed. How can I force this, or change the database date. I tried using the fsrecover, which tells me the dates are out of sequence, but doesn't do anything about it. I found a similar problem in the list archives, but no answer to it. >Error Type: FileStorageError >Error Value: The database has already been packed to a later time or no changes have been made since the last pack (Zope 2.6.0 (binary release, python 2.1, win32-x86), python 2.1.3, win32) running on WIN98 (please don't laugh). Idiom for accessing restricted capabilities
by Andrew Athan 29 Dec '02

29 Dec '02

Say you have a site which must perform certain restricted activites, but those activities should be invokable by anonymous users IF AND ONLY IF the users initiate them from an authorized source (e.g., a specific DTML or ZPT script)...what is the recommended way of setting this up? Example: Site X allows anonymous users to purchase an item. The purchase() method is defined to be accessible only by a specific trusted/authenticated user. The purchase() method should not be invokable by the anonymous user, but if the anonymous user access the checkout page template, that page template should be able to invoke purchase(). Now, say I want to invoke purchase() from an ExternalMethod that is called from an anonymous context, what's the preferred way of setting and supplying the appropriate credentials? I have solved these problems "my way," think the solution is hairy and dirty, and would therefore like to see what people's recommended solutions are. A.

objectValues not working below root
by huzza boo 29 Dec '02

29 Dec '02

Greetings, all. I'm a newcomer to Zope, having just installed 2.6.0 on Linux, and working through several of the examples. I do have years of experience on other platforms, however. I am attempting to put together a rather quick and simple document repository for my development team. Here's my issue, forgive me, I suspect it's a newbie one, but I could not find an answer after 25 minutes of searching. I've created a test folder below the root, and within it placed two more folders. I'm simply trying to get the subfolders to display in my index_html document in my first test root folder. I'm using: < ul> < dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> < li>< dtml-var title_or_id> < /dtml-in> < /ul> ...and getting nothing but empty ul tags. If I try this at the absolute root, it works. In any sub folder, it does not. I've created no acl_users below root, and I'm working as Admin, so I don't think this is a privileges problem. This has got to be something simple that I'm just not seeing. Any help is appreciated. Martin __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi I need help with dtml syntax... I have the following line before a dtml-in on a catalog: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Verified','on')"> I want to be able to list only items where Verified is not set to 'on' The default value of verified is no value at all. If I say: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('Verified','')"> (empty value) I get everything. How does one say Verified = to NOT 'on' in dtml?
