Newbie SIte Map Question

Hi All, I'm trying to get a site map working as described by MWR at : - http://www.zope.org/Members/mwr/python_zpt_sitemap_zen I'm not having much luck - partly due to my general igorance, partly, more specifically, because this example uses ZPT which I am not up to speed with. I have created the script and the page template as described in the HOWTO, and - since I am using VHM - I am also using the "getSiteRoot" script as descibed at: - http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zpt/2001-September/002063.html I'm not at all sure if this script is behaving - when I test it, I get : - Resource not found Sorry, the requested resource does not exist. Check the URL and try again. Resource: Folder instance at 0133A270" When I attempt to acccess the site map I get: - Error Type: TALESError Error Value: exceptions.AttributeError on list_pages in '', at line 54, column 7 This is something of a show-stopper for me - I simply can't understand what this error is telling me or how to address it. Any feedback gratefully received... Regards, PhilK Fri, 27 Dec 2002 12:42 GMT @ Ganesh Email: phil(a)xfr.co.uk / Voicemail & Facsimile: 07092 070518 Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. n-step product initialization
by AM 27 Dec '02

27 Dec '02

Hi, I am writing a db based product and need a 3 step initialization for it. In the first step the users specify the db and other params. based on that they are presented with a choice of tables that they select and based on step 2 they then specify some more params. How do I go about doing something like that?? How many acl_users can I have
by borge＠tsar.no 27 Dec '02

Hei we are going deliver a design proposal for a knowledge management system and we are planning to design it with zope. The system wil be a combined e-learning and e-testing system. A user can log on and go through some learninig and then he or she can go through some test to verify the learning. Now I wonder if I can have 10.000 or even more users in one instance of zope? As I have understood it, each user in zope is an object. And with 10.000 such objects it is obvious that I should keep each object as small as possible. My initial idea is thus to store most of the information on each user somewhere else than on the object, for instance in an sql database. The system should then work something like this: User A logs on the e-lerning site. The site gathers information about A from the database. The site then displays the relevant learning packages to A. A then goes through the learning he or she wants. Next, A logs on the knowledge test site. This site then gets information about A from the database. The site then presents the relevant tests to A. A goes through some test. A's test results are then stored on A in the database. After this some manager can acces the database to verify if A have passed the test. All pages in the learning site (text, pictures etc) will be stored in zope's object database. Best wishes and kind regards Børge Kjeldstad

Fwd: Help with Prototype and CMF
by yuba＠cyberback.com 27 Dec '02

27 Dec '02

Greetings, I have worked through the prototype in "The Zope Bible" and have run into trouble while creating my first "real" application. I am working on a web based product to aid volunteer fire departments manage their administrative work. I have based my class "Departments" on the "Entry" Classi n the AddressBook prototype and can add and delete departments as expected (getting them to list to the screen). My problem is that when I "click" a department, instead of getting the expected departmentDetails screen, I get an error saying the Departmetns has an empty or missing Doc string. Here is my "Department" Class, with many fields deleted for brevity... -- Begin Code -- from Globals import Persistent, DTMLFile from Acquisition import Implicit from OFS.SimpleItem import Item class Department(Item, Persistent, Implicit): "Arfs Department Entry" meta_type="Arfs Department" def __init__(self, fdid, department_name=''): "Init Method" self.editDepartment(fdid, department_name) def editDepartment(self, fdid = '', # FDID department_name = '', # Name ... fields deleted for brevity... REQUEST = None): "A Method for Editing Arfs Department Entried" self.fdid = fdid self.department_name = department_name ... fields deleted for brevity ... if REQUEST is not None: return self.editDepartmentForm(self, REQUEST) # Web Presentation Methods editEntryForm = DTMLFile("dtml/editDepartmentForm", globals()) index_html = DTMLFile("dtml/departmentDetails", globals()) --- End Code --- Here is 'dtml/departmentDetails'... --- Start Code --- <dtml-var standard_arfs_header> <form action="./editEntryForm" method="post"> <input type=submit value='Edit Department'> </form> <h1><dtml-var department_name></h1> <table border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=5> <dtml-if fdid> <tr> <th>FDID:</th> <td><dtml-var fdid</td> </tr><tr> <th>Department Name:</th> <td><dtml-var department_name></td> </tr> </dtml-if> </table> <dtml-var standard_arfs_footer> --- End Code --- I think the problem may me in the way I am adding the departments to the application. In the prototype, we set a variable in the constructor of the AddressBook Class, but since all fire departments (in the US) have a uniquie Fire Department Id (fdid), I am using it for the index of the department. I place the department in a dictionary named "Departments" as follows (code deleted for brevity): --- Begin Code --- class Arfs(SimpleItem): "An Arfs Object" meta_type="Arfs" def __init__(self, id, title): self.id = id self.title = title self.Departments = {} def __getitem__(self, fdid): return self.Departments[str(fdid)].__of__(self) def addDepartment(self, fdid, department_name = '', REQUEST = None): "Method to Add a Department to Arfs" new_department = Department(fdid, department_name) self.Departments[str(fdid)] = new_department self.__changed__(1) if REQUEST is not None: return self.index_html(self, REQUEST) --- End Code --- I expect to be able to go to http://localhost/Arfs/23005 to get the departmentDetails for Vilonia Fire & Rescue (my department), but I get the "Departments has an empty or missing Doc String" error. I know this is a long post (thanks for sticking with it this long!)...but do you see what I've missed? I've spent 2 days looking for it, but can't find it. Any help would be appreciated. > Also...I've been reading up on the CMF, and wonder if it would be applicable to an application where multiple users would be managing their departments. This would entail lots of forms and a database interface. Most, if not all of the CMF examples I have seen so far are sites to post articles; would I be well advised to look into CMF for my application? Thanks for your time, and Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays :-) to all; Captian Greg Lindstrom Vilonia Fire & Rescue Vilonia, Arkansas (USA)

Hi, I have a small problem. In the code below I can display the information but I would like to create a link on of the one variables. object modification email
by AJ Coon 27 Dec '02

27 Dec '02

Is there a lightweight Zope product that anyone knows of which: - Tracks changes of objects in Zope - Can send email to notify individuals when changes occur to objects that are being tracked I think using versioning or CMF workflow for what we need would be like using chainsaw to slice butter. ;-) Ideas, anyone? Thanks, aj

Protecting Zope solution / application -> deploying solutions to customers
by Heimo Laukkanen 27 Dec '02

27 Dec '02

Is there a way to protect your intellectual property, if you deliver Zope solutions to customers who have Zope instance running or you will also deploy Zope there. I'm talking about solutions that cosist mostly of some Python based products, Python scripts and page templates -> ie. typical web based site that has some logic, functionality and content, which is accessible through the TTW interface. And even though the client would not have admin account to the Zope instance, they could write a new superuser with zpasswd.py and then get access to everything. My question now is, is there a way to protect your work from being copied, altered or even read in source format? -huima

Is there a Zope base file manager product?
by Farzad FARID 27 Dec '02

27 Dec '02

Hi, I'd like to know if there is a web-based file manager built on top of Zope or CMF. Ideally, I'd like to integrate a file manager in a CMF or Plone site in order to browse and modify the filesystem through the web. As a bonus, the product should be able to handle multiple users and their rights on Unix correctly. Thanks -- Farzad FARID <farzy(a)farzy.org> http://www.farzy.org/

Can't connect to Zope after initial install...
by Malcolm Webb 26 Dec '02

26 Dec '02

I just installed Zope onto the following config: -Redhat 7.1.2 -gcc 2.96 -python 2.1.3 My box is currently running Apache, and hosts 11 web sites (virtual hosts). The box has two ethernet cards and two static IPs. It appears as though everything has installed correctly (no errors). I've created a "zope" user and chmod'ed all the files in the zope directory. When I run the "start" script, it says that the Zserver has been started and is listening on port 8080. But then when I try to connect using a standard web browser, I get a "connection refused" error. This happens even if I turn off Apache. According to "netstat", something is listening on port 8080. But nothing is being written to the log file, and I can't connect. Can anyone offer some advice? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful.
