Fake Conferences CSCI and WORLDCOMP of Hamid Arabnia Hamid Arabnia from University of Georgia is well known for his fake WORLDCOMP conferences https://sites.google.com/site/dumpconf This website has an open challenge posted sometime in 2012 and it also has comments from several well-known researchers on WORLDCOMP. Hamd Arabnia never responded to these because his conferences are bogus. Hamid Arabnia (the money hungry professor) has recently started 2014 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI'14) http://www.americancse.org to deceive researchers further. CSCI'14 is started under the title of “American Council on Science and Education” which is a dummy corporation (does not exist anywhere in the world). Hamid Arabnia buried his name in the list of names of other innocent steering and program committee members of CSCI’14 to avoid any special attention. He knows that if his name is given any special attention then researchers immediately notice that the conference is fake due to his “track record” with WORLDCOMP. Hamid Arabnia (Guru of Fake Conferences and champion of academic scam) spoiled the reputations and careers of many authors who submitted papers to his infamous WORLDCOMP for more than a decade and he is now ready to do the same using CSCI. Interestingly, CSCI is scheduled to be held at the same venue where WORLDCOMP was held until 2012. CSCI has no general chair. It has no physical person’s name or physical address or phone number to contact. Only contact address is an email address. Hamid Arabnia and his puppets answer the emails, if needed, using fake names. Do not spoil your resume by submitting your papers in this bogus conference CSCI which will not be held beyond 2014. CSCI will not be indexed by DBLP. Recently, Hamid Arabnia paid money and published few “news articles” claiming him a victim of online harassment and cyber bullying. Now he started posting (using fake names and through his puppets) in various emails, blogs and forums, referring to those “news articles” and trying to get back sympathy and trust of the research community to make his CSCI successful. Hamid Arabnia is a Wolf in a Sheep’s skin. We challenge Hamid Arabnia to openly publish the names and affiliation details of the reviewers for thousands of research papers submitted to WORLDCOMP for the last thirteen years. We also challenge Hamid Arabnia to openly publish all the reviews (after removing authors identification details) for all the thousands of research papers submitted to WORLDCOMP for the last thirteen years. XML-RPC problem solved!!

OK, with help of my boss we were able to get the xmlrpclib patch to work with Authentication. Basically I did as before, with a duplicated, modified version "xmlrpclibx", and used it: import xmlrpclibx t = xmlrpclibx.BasicAuthTransport('myusername','mypassword') # I have to create the new modified transport with this call! s = xmlrpclibx.Server("http://....0",t) # and passed t as argument! print s.imin.short() Then it worked. I just didn't create the right object to pass in, that's all. Happy Holidays again, everyone! I-Min

update on my XML-RPC woes

OK, some good news: I was able to locate more tips from : "XML-RPC with ZClasses" http://www.zope.org/Members/teyc/pipermailXMLRPCWodes/ So I have implemented the one major change: 1. Fix the import error to support "encode string"-by adding from base64 import encodestring and I went back and re-adjusted that block to the way Amos had it because per my earlier email, I had already fixed the subclassing error. But it still isn't working yet!

Need help with authentication through XML-RPC

Hi More experienced Zope folks, I am a fairly raw programming intern who have been learning Zope and Python. Now here's my problem: I have set up a DTML method in a folder that'll create a DA note (DigitalAccess Note product) object in that folder. I have tried it locally and it works. Even better, is it can be invoked via http request through my web browser remotely, and everything is fine, the User Authentication dialog box is brought up automatically, and I can enter my userId and password and all works. **BUT how to I do the same trick with XML-RPC? I have done some minimalistic XML-RPCs using the xmlrpclib module created by F.Lundh, but now I ran into the real problem: his module as is does not come with support for sending requests with basic authentication and needs to be extended! (SEE "How to use XML-RPC with Zope" by Mr. Amos at http://www.zope.org/Members/Amos/XML-RPC ) In that article, the author does offer ONE example code on how to extended this via addition of a BasicAuthTransport class. And here's what I have tried to do to make this work: 1. copied the xmlrpclib module into another module "xmlrpclibx.py" so I can play with it safely.. 2. make sure the string and httplib were imported (if they weren't I added the statement in at the beginning) 3. copied the class definition of BasicAuthTransport class into this module, with only one change: instead of xmlrpclib.Transport the first line parameter is just Transport) 4. made one change in the class Server definition (that calls the Transport functions) where it says: if transport is None: transport = Transport() self.__transport = transport I changed the middle statement to: transport = BasicAuthTransport() in order to try to get the modified method called. Then I just discovered that in BasicAuthTransport codes there's a NameError with "encodestring" (that's NOT defined in string module). And as it stands, I have attempted to replace that block with what I think would be the string involved, only to see that, when I execute that call, I don't get ANY feedback-the DOS prompt simply "stalled"-nothing was done,as if the program ran into the Abyss.. ZODB data loss - help required

Ive just had a very disturbing and odd experience with data loss in the ZODB. Ive been running Zope servers for 15 years and never seen this before until two previous incidents a few months ago. The sequence of events for those incidents were vague so I put it down to user error, but now that its happened a third time on a different site Im getting worried. Plone 4.2.0.1 (4206) CMF 2.2.6 Zope 2.13.15 Python 2.7.3 (default, Feb 6 2013, 01:00:51) [GCC 4.4.6 20120305 (Red Hat 4.4.6-4)] PIL 2.0.0 (Pillow) The site was been working perfectly for 4 months with many updates and perfectly fine performance. Im now faced with the horrible job of explaining this to the client and I dont quite understand it myself. *Sequence of events* The Plone site was launched to production in September and has been running ever since. It has been restarted several times since then with minor product updates. Today I needed to do a yum update and then I restarted Zope using an init script that stops Zope & ZEO and restarts them. When Zope came up the Plone site was now showing data from August 5. Somehow everything between August 5 and December 5 has been lost. A scan of the transactions via the Undo Log or using data.fs tools shows transactions up to August 5 then nothing until December 5 >From the logs I can see that the server itself was rebooted on August 5 and there was also a copy of the Data.fs made on that date too. We have not packed the database since that date as it was not large or growing fast. All backups also show the August 5 data - which means the file system copies of the Data.fs were simply copying the old version of the database. Ive cloned the file system and kept the original untouched although in the first hour or so after the restart I did several file copies and moves as I was unaware of the gravity of the situation. Ive tried extundelete and debugfs and neither of them detect any deleted Data.fs file that can be recovered. *Questions* My main aim is to work out what happened. My best guess is that Zope was somehow connecting to a stale or outdated file pointer and updating that file all along while the Data.fs was pointing to an August 5 copy. But how could this situation eventuate and persist for so long? The odd thing is that we had 2 very similar incidents on 2 different Zope servers a few months ago but both resulted in almost no data loss as the timeframes were shorter and I dismissed them as some odd user error. We have recently moved most of our Zope servers to Linode - could it be their file system? or could it be the new way we setup the buildouts and init scripts?
