Start up failing with ZopeCtlOptions instance has no attribute 'transcript'

Zope2 was installed using a simple pip install Zope2. Imho this bug comes up as in Startup/zopectl.py" the ZopeCtlOptions class is beeing emulated but so. missed the transcript attribute (as before this happend with the startup-time attribute, too). I created a patch that's attached to this mail and should be run inside the virtualenv python dir (i.e. where bin, include, lib etc. reside): patch -p0 < patch-zope2-startup.diff Maybe someone could confirm that this bug exists and this fixes it? Zopache is a through-the-web Javascript Development environment built on top of Python, ZODB, ZTK, and Grok. Zopache was used to build zopache.com You can see a demo of the gorgeous HTML editor here: http://www.zopache.com/demo We are so used to thinking of Zope as open source software. That business model is not working. Furthermore most of the people in the world are not able to configure their own servers, let alone understand the Zope Component Architecture. Zope2 - pro/contra

Hello ZOPE community, we're still developing websites using Zope2 + ZMS3 (www.zms-publishing.com) for years now and never ran into any real problems (compared to, let's say, Wordpress, typo3, Drupal etc. which had serious security problems over the years) and our clients are quite happy with ZMS. A few days ago on a barcamp the discussion lead to Zope and the usual comments, i.e. "Zope is dead", "I would not use that", "Too complicated", "Too old", "Outdated",.... and so on. My personal opinion is, that Zope2 is still rock-solid and gets the job done. I've never heard of any serious issues compared to the big competitors from the PHP or Java world. I looked into Pyramid and Django for different projects and always came back to Zope2 itself. I did not ask that question for quite some time now as there was no reason. Sure, sometimes we get comments like "never heard of it" etc., but nothing serious. Still, are there any specific reasons (beside personal favors) not to use Zope2 anymore? Any reason not to use Zope2 + ZODB for new projects? Are other frameworks like flask, Django, pyramid etc. that much better compared to Zope? Best Sebastian

I use Zope since around 2001 and I still have some Zope 2 web applications running and they are just rock-solid and easy to update. I have never been convinced by Zope 3 and I have never seen any advantages for using the Zope 3 techniques. The Zope 2 core developers (I think Andreas has worked for Zope Corporation) created a mature product - and I still love it for its flexibility and the speed of development once you understood the core concepts. However, web development has been changed in the past 10 years. But for future projects I look for new python based products.

Zope zserver-threads minimum is 5?

Hi all, My zope clients (Zope2-2.12.11) allways start with 5 theads although zserver-threads is 2 in my zope.conf file. I am using "ps -eLf" for theads counter. If for zserver-threads I use the values 1, 2 or 3 I get 5 theads. A higher value give me 2 threads more. I mean, for 4 I get 6, for 15, 17 threads, etc. It's correct? There are allways 5 threads minumun and 2 extra? It's a plone site. I am using zeo with separated catalog. I have 16 instances in a 8 cores machines and I think the GIL is making a poor performance. It is this rich library of extensible python components conforming to ZCA. Maybe Pyramid is closer to a framework, very stripped down, the ZCA is hidden. Pyramid uses ZCA, but does not encourage it. Grok is really a rich library of reusable components. I am only sorry that more people are not actively developing on Grok and ZCA. Chris
