RE: [Zope] how to test connection speed on external zope server

Also worth mentioning, if you were testing caching performance, you would also want to have 2 laptops running a tool like this, have one start a test, delay a little bit, and let another start after you feel confident that the cache is relatively full of the items you want. This sort of testing would apply just as much to Apache/mod_proxy (assuming you cache) as it would to Squid. Worth testing, also, perhaps is caching performance for any caching proxy server you put in front of Zope... (For example, if you have a ZEO cluster of 2 boxes, you could set up Squid to run with no caching, doing plain old proxying, and see what kind of performance you get round-robining your two Zope servers, then you could turn on caching, run tests with default refresh patterns, and compare; finally, you could tweak caching via refresh patterns, HTTP headers in your applications, and HTTP cache manager tweaks in Zope and run more rounds of the same test). Password function to manager screen broke?
by ken 18 Dec '02

18 Dec '02

Zope folks, Several times now I've tried to get into the manager screen from the zope home page (both http://localhost.localdomain and the actual hostname.domain of this box) without any luck. I tried the user & passwd given after the install and that didn't work. So I "cd /usr/share/zope" and "python2.1 zpasswd.py access", go through the prompts. Here's the access file: admin:password That's it. There's not even a CR at the end of the one line. Because I chose "cleartext" for encoding, you can see the user is "admin" and the password is "password". At the prompt for "Domain restrictions:" I just hit "Enter" (though I tried other things... don't really know what this prompt is asking for anyway). Nothing has worked. I even restarted zope a few times in between some of these attempts. What else can I do so I can log into the manager screen? thanks, ken

RE: [Zope] Strange ZSQL error in ZMI

Jim, I took the QSurvey.zexp file you sent to me, and imported it into ControlPanel/Products. No problems there. but, our site is too big for a full site FIND....times out. BUT, whilst poking around, I ran across a copy of the folder where the original survey was. I deleted that survey and we removed the ZClass again. Everything works fine now. The Advanced TAB on ZSQL Methods is functioning again. THANK YOU! -Allen

Why, yes...as a matter of fact...we did just up to 2.6.0. When we did, we saw the QSurvey stuff in Products, did not think anyone was using it and left if out of the new Products folder when we moved everything over. So how do we resolve this? I would really appreciate anything you can offer... Re: Any comments from ex-PHP developers?

Thx much to everyone for insights about why Zope you think is a better tool to develop web apps over PHP. IMHO, since that's probably the first question people wonder about using Zope, I think it'd be a nice thing if someone very experienced in Zope and PHP/Perl wrote an article about this. Thx again Fred.

created a structured document
by David Bear 18 Dec '02

18 Dec '02

I would like to created a structure text document in a folder called docStor. The hiearchy looks like this : \-- "my add form lives here" \docStor "this is where I want to create the structured doc" I have created a form at '\' called addDoc and a script at '\' to grab fields from the form. However, I don't know the api to call to add a structured document. I've got the zope book and it uses context.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addDTMLDocument ... but I don't want to add a dtml doc. Any pointers? David Bear College of Public Programs/ASU Mail Code 0803

i wrote a sql-method which contains the SQL-Statement "SELECT * FROM table" called imageList Table contains about 3000 entries. I created a DTML-Document and wanted to show all entries with a edit and delete link. I did it like this: <dtml-in "db.imageList()" size="1" start=query_start> ... </dtml-in> then i integrated forward and previous links, but if i click on the forward button i only get forward till to the 900d entry. i would be happy, if someone could help me
