objectmanager contains object test

this is probably really simple, but I can't figure it out from the API docs. I want to test to see if a folder contains a dtml method with a known id. how do I do this from python? I've tried if context.data.news[ object_id ] which breaks with a key error, if it doesn't exist. I want something like context.data.news.has_key( object_id ) but object manager doesn't seem to have any methods like that. and doing a try, and catching key errors seems a messy way to do it.

Mysql-Connection in Python-Script

Win32, Zope and FTP

I'm trying to put together a collaboration app that allows users to share large datasets. When I ftp the data, which has numerous folders and large (~100Meg) and small files in them, to a Zope 2.6.0 server running on Windows XP, it will transfer many but not all of the datasets. Then if I try to make another object, say a folder, through ftp or the management screens, the server hangs. The same test on a Linux box running Mandrake 8.something doesn't show this problem at all. Ideas? I would guess that it's a threading problem, mostly because in my experience threads suck on Windows, but I don't know enough about the Zope internals to prove it. Changing the backend from FileStorage to DirectoryStorage(lawn) didn't seem to change the behavior either. Any help, yada yada... J. Toman

swocket integration

I remember seeing a post about someone trying to use swocket with zope... Just searched the archives, no luck... Has anyone been playing with this? If not, any ideas if it would work ok? If I start the swocketserver from within a zope product, I should have access to self. and inheritance and all that from within swocket? Sounds like it would be a cool little add on, and it sure would make persistant connections easy. (from within flash at least) With XML-RPC for flash coming along, and a socket server, it could make zope a lethal alternative to the macromedia proprietary product. Upgrading zope

I have a client working on zope 2.3.3. What are the advantages to upgrading zope to the latest version? It's likely to be a big job, how can I justify this? What are the risks to upgrading? Hello, Well, I tried to look at the PythonScript issue, and it looks like there's definitely something "odd" going on here ... As Jo suggested, I tried "cleaning out" my variables at the end of my Python Scripts ... I didn't do this for ALL of them though, just the most used ones, which actually aren't CMF related (Search Engine is one) ... And now what happens is the memory grows, BUT, at some point, the Zope process DIES with a SIG11 (Aieeee!), restarts, and voila, of course, the memory is clean. This I suppose is a blessing is disguise, as I don't have to keep an eye on it anymore, I can actually rely on a SIG11 occuring and restarting the leaking process for me !!! But this to me indicates some worrying problems with the PythonScript implementation. Although I have looked everywhere else for the source of my memory leak, this is the best candidate yet. I even looked at this document: http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/PreventAndDebugMemLeaks and looked through my scripts for global variables that don't get reset, and circular references, but not luck ... I am confused about the following statements though: "DO use REQUEST.set and REQUEST.__setitem__ sparingly." "DONT stuff things that are acquisition-wrapped into REQUEST or into a session, or into any other object that is transient." What does that mean exactly? :) I don't use SESSION's , but I like to stuff things into my REQUEST object indeed quite a bit. Could this be it? And if so ... out of pure curiosity, why is this bad? I have found using dtml-let to be awkward to use at times ... and "DO use global variables sparingly." "DONT stuff things into a global variable without later clearing or deleting the variable." Global in reference to what ? :) In my External Methods, I have no global variables, that is no variables that don't belong inside a def'ed function (and allways "reset" before being used) ... In PythonScripts themselves, I think I NEVER use functions, just straight code, so by definition all variables ARE global to that script ... Is this bad? Just like you we use CMF, but we started with an older version (that was mostly DTML and only some PythonScripts) and have since then rewritten or at least changed almost everything in the skins folders. One problem wrt to the memory leaks we have not solved yet: When we refresh one of our products that is part of our CMS Zope starts to leak memory like there's no tomorrow. newbie: why can't I list directories under ftp on RH7.2?

Hi! I'm a new Zope user / admin and so far am pretty happy with the system. I've been a software developer for about 12 years (I was a CPU engineer before that), working on things as diverse as object-code rewriting, RISC assembler code graphics libraries, writing a Java distributed object platform and rewriting a WYSIWYG web-based website editor to use an XML page representation. I'm impressed with the comprehensiveness of what's available in Zope and am happy to be here. Question: I've set up the server on my rh7.2 machine, connected through Apache and using virtual hosts and SiteRoot. All is going well so far (my initial site is http://www.sfbagc.com) except for ftp. I've opened up port 8021 using ipchains to my local network, and I can ftp to the server from localhost or from a Windows ftp client, and can log in. But I can't get a directory listing ("Unauthorized") or change to directories that I thounk ought to be there ("/Diaries"). I haven't been able to find any clues using Google. Am I missing some important Zope or system config? Any clues would help. CatalogPathAwareness and manage_beforeDelete

which one is better running zope with it own python or with the OS python

Secondly, which one will give me optimum performance? that is running zope with it own python or with the OS python. And lastly, how do i configure zope to either use it own python or OS python.
