flux 0.2 release
by Juan David Ibáñez Palomar 24 Nov '02

24 Nov '02

flux is a Python module that helps to implement workflow based applications. Unlike other Zope based solutions flux doesn't require Zope. It is simple, flexible and powerful. Documentation is included in the file flux.html and an example can be found in the file test.py The 0.2 release has a new and much improved API, the complete changelog is attached. This version is the work of Thilo Ernst, thanks Thilo! Download from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lleu Best regards, -- J. RE: [Zope] Re: silva, xmlwidgets, parsedxml

[ garry saddington] > I still cannot get these to work even though i have the latest pyXML > installed. The error message is: > > 'can't import name expat' > > Do you have to copy any of the filesystem python components > into the zope > install? Has anyone else had this problem? The install of PyXML normally goes into the regular Python installation, not Zope's. Although not everyone agrees, I think it is easiest just to copy the PyXML stuff into the Zope installation. PyXML uses some tricks to integrate its XML paths into Python's (so that it can replace the standard Python xml libraries) but basically you are looking for the "_xmlplus" directory tree. How to define class in Python script instance?
by Skip Montanaro 24 Nov '02

24 Nov '02

I'm struggling to understand how <dtml-tree> is supposed to work with Python scripts. I have this simple dtml document: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <dtml-tree id="id" branches_expr="utils.get_tree()"> <b><dtml-var name></b> <dtml-var id> </dtml-tree> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> utils.get_tree() is a simple Python script: sql = context.sql class dummy: pass result = [] for obj in sql.get_client_names().dictionaries(): d = dummy() d.name = obj["name"] d.id = obj["id"] result.append(d) result.sort() return result (The problem I'm trying to solve is more complex than the above simple example suggests. I have a hierarchy of tables in my SQL database, so sql.get_client_names() isn't the only ZSQL method which needs to be called. The different methods return objects with different field names.) If I understand anthony's tree-coding-tricks document, <dtml-tree> can't handle mappings, so you have to return lists of objects with attributes. When my Python script is called I get this error: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: attribute-less object (assign or del) with reference to the d.name = ... statement. I tried defining the dummy class as: class dummy: def __init__(self, name, id): self.name = name self.id = id but Zope complained about defining a variable with two leading underscores. Do I have to create an external method to define classes? The Zope Book suggests that's really not possible either: Problems can occur if you hand instances of your own classes to Zope and expect them to work like Zope objects. For example, you cannot define a class in an External Method script file and assign it as an attribute of a Zope object. This causes problems with Zope's persistence machinery. You also cannot easily hand instances of your own classes over to DTML or scripts. The issue here is that your instances won't have Zope security information. You can define and use your own classes and instances to your heart's delight, just don't expect Zope to use them directly. Limit yourself to returning simple Python structures like strings, dictionaries and lists or Zope objects. So what's a poor fella to do? ZEO-startup-exception with Zope-2.6
by Maik Jablonski 23 Nov '02

Hi, I'm playing with ZEO2.0 and Zope-2.6 [CVS] [all running on the same machine for testing purposes as desribed in the ZopeBook]. I've installed ZEO as described in the ZopeREADME.txt and started the ZEO-Server with: python2.1 /Zope/lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 7700 The server works without any problems. Then I created a custom_zodb.py in my ZEO-Clients-Root: import ZEO.ClientStorage Storage=ZEO.ClientStorage.ClientStorage(('127.0.0.1',7700)) When I start my ZEO-Client, I get this error: python2.1 /ZopeClient/z2.py -D ------ 2002-11-23T09:09:15 INFO(0) ZCS:1010 ClientStorage (pid=1010) created RW/normal for storage: '1' ------ 2002-11-23T09:09:15 INFO(0) ZEC ClientCache: storage='1', size=20971520; file[0]=None ------ 2002-11-23T09:09:15 INFO(0) ZCS:1010 Testing connection <ManagedConnection ('127.0.0.1', 7700)> ------ 2002-11-23T09:09:15 INFO(0) ZCS:1010 Connected to storage ------ 2002-11-23T09:09:15 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): Module __main__, line 582, in ? ancestors list?
by Tobias Herp 23 Nov '02

Hi, is it possible to get (in a Python product) a list of all classes (or their meta_types) a certain class is derived from? How? Possible purpose e.g. to get all sorts of Folders, all sorts of UserFolders etc. tia, Tobias -- (sorry for any unfriendly footer added automatically against my wishes... please ignore it!) Iterating inside Sendmail
by Michael 23 Nov '02

23 Nov '02

I have put up a small job site for Linux jobs here in N. Colorado. I want to offer the option of entering an email address and have job postings emailed directly to subscribers as they are posted. I tried the example below, but there seems to be a problem iterating inside sendmail. For the time being, I just created a method and manually entered all the email addresses in it, ie: Bcc: <dtml-var listNames>, but I would like to automate it if possible. Does anyone have any idea on how to approach this? Michael <dtml-with entries> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('post_name', post_name)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('post_type', post_type)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('post_email', post_email)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('description', description)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('company_name', company_name)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('company_domain', company_domain)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('position_title', position_title)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('org_city', org_city)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('title', post_name+' - '+post_type+' - '+position_title)"> <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['NCLJobs']"> <dtml-call "ncl_jobs_entry_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: linux(a)jymis.com From: linux-jobs(a)jymis.com Bcc: <dtml-with listEntries> <dtml-in Catalog> <dtml-var email_address> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> Subject: Northern Colorado Linux Jobs Autoresponder <dtml-mime type=text/plain encode=7bit> POSTING TYPE: <dtml-var post_type> COMPANY NAME: <dtml-var company_name> COMPANY DOMAIN: <dtml-var company_domain> CONTACT EMAIL: <dtml-var post_email> POSITION TITLE: <dtml-var position_title> LOCATION / CITY: <dtml-var org_city> DESCRIPTION: <dtml-var description> </dtml-mime> </dtml-sendmail>

Creating a ZClass based off Page Templates
by Edward Pollard 23 Nov '02

23 Nov '02

I'm trying to make my pages catalog automatically, but to do this I'm told I need to create a ZClass wrapper that is catalog aware. It's pretty easy to do this based off a DTML-Document. No problems. But when I started with Zope I got the impression that DTML was the devil - use Page Templates! I've been using Page Templates for everything to date. I can't seem to base a Zclass off a Page Template, as its not in the list of classes. So, er, how shall I accomplish this? Ed

Setup for jnlp files
by Dennis Allison 23 Nov '02

23 Nov '02

What needs to be done to handle jnlp files properly under Zope? I have stored the jnlp file as a file in the ZOODB with a mime-type of application/java-jnlp-file. Does anything have to be done to manage access beyond that. -dra

Re: [Zope] change properties in external methods (was get properties ....)
by Elena Schulz 23 Nov '02

23 Nov '02

Hi Ausum, ok I'll get more into detail even if some problems are already solved. I want to upload object's with properties of different meta_types from a local Zope to a remote Zope just via HTTP (no zexp etc. cause I have no access and cannot add any Products to the remote Zope) :-( I will do it with an external method based on uploadfile.py @ zope-cookbook by pieterb 1. problem: I managed to upload files, folder, ... with title just python scripts don't work (I'll show the code later...) 2. problem: I cannot add other properties upto now Can anybody give some hints? -- many thanks for your replies, Elena the relevant codesnippets: import urllib ..... # use authentication and set the user agent urllib._urlopener = MyUrlOpener() ..... if objectType != 'Folder': objectSource = object.read() ### I get the script-body with bindings and params if objectType == 'Script (Python)': params = urllib.urlencode({'id': objectId, 'file':objectSource}) ##### this doesn't work else: params = urllib.urlencode({'id': objectId, 'title':objectTitle, 'file':objectSource}) ##### this works nicely myAction = actionDict[objectType] callURL = '/'.join([myHost, objPath, myAction]) ## if objectType == 'Script (Python)' myAction is 'manage_addPythonScript' # send the file to zope f=urllib.urlopen(callURL, params) ##### this works nicely exept for 'Script (Python)' type # add properties callURL = '/'.join([myHost, objPath, 'manage_addProperty']) for prop in object.propertyIds(): if prop != 'title' or objectType != 'Script (Python)': ### title exists already, scripts don't have properties propValue = object.getProperty(prop) propType = object.getPropertyType(prop) ### up to here it works #### but the upload of the properties does not work params = urllib.urlencode({'id': prop, 'value':propValue, 'type':propType}) #urllib._urlopener = MyUrlOpener() ### I tried to set the opener again, but no change f=urllib.urlopen(callURL, params)
