ZCatalog: Huge Problems recataloging an item
by Timm Gebhart 18 Nov '02

18 Nov '02

Hi there. I seem to have a problem with CatalogAware Classes and index_object: Method code is as follows: <html><body> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('active', 1)"> <dtml-with "content[pic]" only> <dtml-call "manage_changeProperties(REQUEST)"> <dtml-call reindex_object> </dtml-with> <p>Changes saved.</p> </body> </html> which is getting called from a form outside the management interface to update a catalogued item's properties. But it does not! Though the object has now the new values, the ZCatalog entry is not updated, and the DTML method returns without showing any errors. How can this possibly happen? I am a bit confused especially since the same method worked before restarting Zope. Thanks in advance, tmM -- Nobody writes jokes in base 13. Douglas Noel Adams +

When I try to access the WebDAV lock manager at /Control_Panel/DavLocks/manage_main I get a Site Error Error Type: TypeError Error Value: has_key() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given) Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 39, in call_object Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 252, in __call__ Module Shared.DC.Scripts.Bindings, line 283, in _bindAndExec Module App.special_dtml, line 174, in _exec Module DocumentTemplate.DT_Let, line 75, in render Module DocumentTemplate.DT_Util, line 201, in eval - __traceback_info__: REQUEST Module <string>, line 0, in ? I recently switched the Zope engine to 2.6 which seems to have fixed a PDF upload issue we were having but now it looks like I've got a new memory leak which I'm just starting to troubleshoot -- perhaps related? Any suggestions? Ricardo Newbery newbery(a)dvgroup.com

perplexed by hanging Python script

Environment: OS: MacOSX 10.2.2 Server: Zope 2.5.1 Browsers: MSIE 5.2, Opera 6.0beta2, links 0.96, httpget, wget This simple Python script hangs when accessed via direct URL or the ZMI (I didn't try the ZMI with links): ## Script (Python) "empty" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters= ##title= ## return [] If I call it via xmlrpc it succeeds: % python Python 2.3a0 (#6, Nov 13 2002, 19:57:35) [GCC 3.1 20020420 (prerelease)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import xmlrpclib >>> utils = xmlrpclib.ServerProxy("http://localhost:8080/dcII/utils") >>> print utils.empty() [] If I fetch the URL using wget, it responds: % wget http://localhost:8080/dcII/utils/empty --14:34:52-- http://localhost:8080/dcII/utils/empty => `empty' Resolving localhost... done. Total of 182 bytes read in 0.126 seconds It seems there is some sort of protocol problem (miscalculation of response length perhaps?). Is this a known bug in 2.5.1? If so, is there a patch available to fix it (I'm not in a position to upgrade Zope). I tried searching the Zope Collector but saw nothing obvious in about five minutes of searching. -1 != -1 ?
by Steffen Hausmann 17 Nov '02

17 Nov '02

Hi, I'm a bit confused. I have a Website with a select field. You can choose numbers between 7 an -7 (<option value="-7">). If the number is positive everything is fine, but if it is negative Zope behaves strange. First I convert the string "-7" into an integer publishRange = int(publishRange) and then want to know whether it is positive or negative, but if publishRange < 0: doesn't react to it (if publishRange > 0: does, if publishRange is positive). What am I doing wrong. MfG Steffen -- Manche Maenner bemuehen sich ein ganzes Leben lang, das Wesen einer Frau zu verstehen. Zope/DB2/SQLRelay and BLOBs
by Christoph Schmitz 17 Nov '02

17 Nov '02

Hi all, we're (quite happily) running Zope and DB2 (via SQLRelay) on several Linux boxes. Currently, we are trying to put large chunks of data into DB2 BLOBs and serve them via Zope. Someone suggested just using a ZSQLMethod for selecting the respective field and <dtml-var> to display it, making sure the Content-Type is correct. I tried to reproduce that solution, using an ZSQLMethod and DTML as follows: SQL Method testselect: select data from blobtest where id = 42 DTML: <dtml-in testselect> <dtml-var data> </dtml-in> All I see is a textual representation of my data in hexadecimal. A common recommendation I saw (relating to Oracle, MySQL or PostgreSQL) was to treat this issue in Python scripts. Has anyone accomplished any way of serving BLOBs from Zope in a simple fashion as shown above (or in any way at all) using DB2 and SQLRelay? I'd really like to avoid hacking database specific Python scripts... Thanks in advance, Christoph

Adding " Mail this page to a friend" to a zope site
by Jan Smith 17 Nov '02

17 Nov '02

Hi, I want to add a "Mail this page to a friend" script to a website I'm building in Zope. I've been searching for information and discovered it may be possible using Formulator or MailHost than I found something called MIME in a zope book and became confused. I didn't quite find the answer I was looking for. I am guessing that others before me have added a "mail this page to a friend" script to a zope site. How did you do it? regards Jan

Size of a zope export
by Dylan Jay 17 Nov '02

17 Nov '02

I experiencing some unexpected behaviour when performing an export. I'm trying to minimize the size of the export by removing a lot of data that isn't needed. I delete a few thousand objects and call manage_catalogClear(). However, since I still want to keep this data I put all this code in a python script and raise an exception directly after performing the export. This roles back the transaction so all the data is still retained. The problem is that the zexp file is the same size as if I hadn't deleted anything! Anyone know why this would be or another way to export a subsection of objects rather than the whole lot?
