Redirect problem
by Ken 07 Nov '02

07 Nov '02

Hi all, The recent discussion of non ZODB-bloating counters reminded me of my unsolved redirect problem. I send my external links to a script which performs a RESPONSE.redirect. Then I can count them using Webalizer. But the problem is to redirect to off-site pdfs. This works: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://dogjoy.freezope.org/redirect.html')"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> But this doesn't: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('http://dogjoy.freezope.org/redirect.pdf')"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Any clues? Thanks, Ken

RE: [Zope] testing for "REQUEST is not None"
by Passin, Tom 07 Nov '02

[ Willem Broekema] > Also then, the absense of REQUEST can be tested with just 'if > REQUEST'?! > Yes, but that statement may be misleading. You have a parameter called REQUEST that may or may not be passing to the function. If that parameter were to be omitted, the function would still construct a local variable called "REQUEST", and set it to refer to the None object. You will be testing this local variable, which is certain to exist because of the Python defaulting mechanism (REQUEST=None). On the other hand, if you tried to use the test on a variable that had never been constructed, then Python would throw an exception since it could not be able to find that name. > > Obviously I'm still not making clear what I want to know: > > - 'None' compares to a boolean false > > - 'def something(self, REQUEST=None):' gives REQUEST the value None, > if it is omitted > > - inside the function, REQUEST is either a Request instance (boolean > true) or 'None' (boolean false), so testing for REQUEST is whatever type was passed in, not a boolean true or false. It behaves like a boolean only for the purposes of the logical test. > 'if REQUEST is not None:' is equivalent to 'if REQUEST:' > Not quite, as I explained. The first form tests whether REQUEST is the same as the None object. The second form tests whether REQUEST evaluates to true or false when teste - false will be evaluated for 0, "", {}, and {} as well as for None. BTW, Javascript actis much the same way. For example, "undefined" evaluates to false in a logical test. Cheers, Tom P > As 'if REQUEST' is shorter than '.. is not None', why not use > it instead? > > Like this: > > def something(self, REQUEST=None): > # do actions > if REQUEST: > # redirect to ... > > > It's equivalent to testing for an empty string: why test for > the empty > string like this: > if s != '' > > when you know s is a string, so you can just do: > if s: > > > - Willem > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > ** No cross > posts or HTML encoding! ** > (Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) >

testing for "REQUEST is not None"
by Willem Broekema 07 Nov '02

If a method in a Zope product has REQUEST as optional parameter: def something(self, REQUEST=None): ... why is the REQUEST always compared with None: if REQUEST is not None: .. instead of just: if REQUEST: .. ? - Willem

ZCatalog and Meta Types
by tom smith 07 Nov '02

Hello I have a catalog full of catalogue aware objects (about 2,000). When I search for items of the meta_type "Commentoid" I seem to to get ALL the objects, hence my if filter below. Am I doing something wrong in my script or is my catalog wrong? Thanks ###################### request = context.REQUEST cat = context.catalog size= int(size) objs = [ ] for item in cat.searchResults(meta_type='Commentoid'): rid = item.data_record_id_ path = cat.getpath(rid) obj = cat.getobject(rid, REQUEST=request) if obj.meta_type == 'Commentoid': objs.append(obj) if len(objs) == size: return objs return objs -- tom smith http://www.othermedia.com/blog/ 0207 089 5959 3rd Floor, The Pavilion, Newham's Row, London SE1 3UZ

ExternalEditor and M$ Word setup?
by Jean Jordaan 07 Nov '02

07 Nov '02

Hi Casey & lists We aim to use ExternalEditor as the crux of our CMF for end-users. When logged in to Plone, the ExternalEditor icon shows up with the user's content. Which strikes me as very, very cool. It works fine for plaintext content, but it will have to work with Microsoft Word (and/or OpenOffice). Currently, when I try this, Word tells me that it doesn't have an importer for this type of content (though it is a plain .doc file I'm editing), and opens the file as unconverted gunk with some recognizable text here and there. I'm guessing that this may be thanks to ExternalEditor's tempfile name. Does anyone have a ZopeEdit.ini that works with Word? -- Jean Jordaan http://www.upfrontsystems.co.za
