RE: [Zope] Squishdot Error on Zope 2.6.0
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 28 Oct '02

A temporary workaround is easy enough: view the traceback in an error log item (new to 2.6) and comment out the offending line of code in the Squishdot product. I can't remember which line in which file, but it is the one that tries to delete the 'summary' metadata entry (I think this is line 155 in SquishSite.py). Either that, or wrap this in try/except (which is what I did). This should be enough to get Squishdot running with Zope 2.6.0 (I only tested a while back in Zope 2.6a, though). Zope/Postgres problem with change to CST
by Tim Wilson 28 Oct '02

Hi everyone, I've built a small database application with Zope, PostgreSQL and ZPsycopgDA. Unfortunately, since we in the central time zone of the U.S. have switched from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time, my app is now generating errors. Here's a Z SQL method that illustrates the problem: --snip-- SELECT event.event_id, event_name, event_type, start_time, is_away, org_name, activity_name, address, city FROM event_participant, event, participant, location WHERE <dtml-sqltest expr="ZopeTime().earliestTime()" column="event.start_time" op="gt" type="string"> AND <dtml-sqltest expr="ZopeTime().latestTime() + numdays" column="event.start_time" op="lt" type="string"> AND <dtml-sqltest org_name column="participant.org_name" op="eq" type="string"> AND event_participant.event_id = event.event_id AND event_participant.participant_id = participant.participant_id AND location.location_id = event.location_id ORDER BY start_time --snip-- The following error is produced when this Z SQL method is called: --snip-- Error, psycopg.ProgrammingError: ERROR: Bad timestamp external representation '2002/11/01 23:59:59 US/Central' SELECT event.event_id, event_name, event_type, start_time, is_away, org_name, activity_name, address, city FROM event_participant, event, participant, location WHERE event.start_time > '2002/10/27' AND event.start_time < '2002/11/01 23:59:59 US/Central' AND participant.org_name = 'Henry Sibley High School' AND event_participant.event_id = event.event_id AND event_participant.participant_id = participant.participant_id AND location.location_id = event.location_id ORDER BY start_time -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SQL used: SELECT event.event_id, event_name, event_type, start_time, is_away, org_name, activity_name, address, city FROM event_participant, event, participant, location WHERE event.start_time > '2002/10/27' AND event.start_time < '2002/11/01 23:59:59 US/Central' AND participant.org_name = 'Henry Sibley High School' AND event_participant.event_id = event.event_id AND event_participant.participant_id = participant.participant_id AND location.location_id = event.location_id ORDER BY start_time --snip-- Anyone else seeing something like this? Re: [Zope] MailHost and 2.6.0

> Module Products.MailHost.MailHost, line 125, in send > TypeError: _send() takes exactly 3 arguments (4 given) > > Can anyone shed some light on this? Not really, no. _send() in 2.6.0 takes exactly 4 arguments, so how you can get an error claiming _send() takes exactly 3 arguments is totally beyond me. > Looking at line 125 of MailHost.py you get this... > self._send(mfrom, mto, messageText) > > Whereas on the 2.5.1 version you get this (after much header manipulations), > self._send( headers, messageText ) Yes, this is correct. The interface of _send() has changed. Since this is only used by MailHost itself, it doesn't affect how you use MailHost. send() hasn't changed, so the public interfaces are exactly the same. Zope 2.6 from CVS
by pieterb＠gewis.nl 27 Oct '02

27 Oct '02

Hello, Can somebody explain how I can use Zope 2.6 from CVS (using Python 2.1.3)? Following http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/SupportPython22/CVSUsageDuringTr… > There is (and will continue to be) a "current release branch", which is > the branch that stable (bug-fix) releases are made from. Currently the > release branch name is zope-2_6-branch, and is the branch from which we > make the Zope 2.6.x releases. For more information on branches and our > release process, see the Zope Release Policy. and tried the following: cvs -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.zope.org:/cvs-repository login cvs -z7 -rzope-2_6-branch -d :pserver:anonymous@cvs.zope.org:/cvs-repository \ checkout Zope When I try to start Zope, it barks that it wants Python 2.2.x. (doc/INSTALL.txt mentions Pytnon 2.2 will be required for 2.7) which shouldn't be required for 2.6? Am I using the wrong CVS-tree? What is the difference between the Zope-2_6-branch and the Zope-2_6-i18n-branch? Can somebody give me more info? Regards, PieterB

Acquisition: crazy idea
by Paul Winkler 27 Oct '02

27 Oct '02

Does everybody remember their early days of using ZOpe when you probably tried top/ images/ bar.gif foo/ index_html images/ ... and then in top/foo/index_html you put: <dtml-var "images['bar.gif']> ... and were thus introduced to the joy and pain of grokking acquisition? Well, I was discussing this with a coworker today (he's an experienced jsp developer, but new to zope) and he said well, why *doesn't* that work, and I didn't have a good answer. What if there were an (optional?) extension to the acquisition rules such that, if the current acquisition process finishes and no object is found, we try to to replace the aq_parent with the next object of the same id found further up the acquisition chain? And then do this recursively back up the acquisition chain until finally we run out of places to look? So instead of saying "I found images/ but it doesn't contain bar.gif', zope would say "hmm, I didn't find what I wanted, there's no bar.gif in here, let me go looking for another images/ and try again." def recursively_rewrap_and_look_again(self, attrname): try: self.aq_chain[1] ... # get the object we would have found # if the current self.aq_chain[1] did not exist except IndexError: raise NotFound # I have no aq_parents, there's nowhere else to look try: return getattr(self, attrname) except AttributeError: new_me = self.aq_chain[1].recursively_rewrap_and_look_again(self.id) return getattr(new_me, attrname) ... uh... or something like that. :) I feel like this must have nasty implications, but I can't see what, except that I have no clue how "get the object we would have found" would work. -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com "Welcome to Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!"

problem creating "File Library with Page Templates"
by Skip Montanaro 27 Oct '02

27 Oct '02

I'm working my way through the beginning page templates chapter of the Zope Book. In the section entitled "Creating a File Library with Page Templates" it says to: * create a folder named FileLib * create a page template in FileLib named index_html * save their mocked up HTML source to .../FileLib/index_html/source.html The last step fails. I'm using XEmacs 21.5b9. Dired shows there is an index_html object inside my FileLib folder: /skip@localhost#8021:/FileLib: d--------- 1 Zope Zope 0 Oct 25 23:27 .. -rw-rw---- 1 skip Zope 384 Oct 25 23:27 index_html I can open the index_html object in my editor session. However, I can't save my source.html buffer to /skip@localhost#8021:/FileLib/index_html/source.html as it instructs (rightly so, I think). The ftp command buffer in XEmacs ends with: ftp> quote mdtm /FileLib/index_html 213 20021025232755 ftp> quote cwd /FileLib/index_html/source.html/ 550 No such directory. ftp> quote cwd /FileLib/index_html/ 550 No such directory. ftp> Frankly, I would have been rather surprised if it _had_ worked. stumped-in-evanston-ly, y'rs, -- Skip Montanaro - skip(a)pobox.com http://www.mojam.com/ http://www.musi-cal.com/

ProxyPass, proxy restriction
by Paul 27 Oct '02

27 Oct '02

How can I let anyone proxy thru apache to zope, and yet restrict all other proxying activity? Background. We've set up zope to get proxied through apache (1.3.x) via ProxyPass as described in http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver. Our httpd.conf contains: <IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyVia On ProxyRequests On ProxyPass /zope/ http://localhost:8080/ ProxyPassReverse /zope/ http://localhost:8080/ <Directory proxy:*> Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from .foo.com, .someisp.com # Allow from all </Directory> </IfModule> So we have https://foo.com/zope/ pointing to the zope server on foo.com: https --> apache (port 443) --> zope (port 8080) Initially, we had restricted access to zope only from our domain and some selected external ISPs (e.g. employees working from home). Unfortunately, I've been asked to change this to "Allow from all"; i.e. allow anyone to reach zope from outside via the apache proxy, because people need access to it while on the road, etc. This has the unforunate side effect of allowing _any_ proxying from outside; i.e. apache is now essentially an open relay. Proxying to zope is OK since zope is password protected, but we want to disallow any other proxying activity. I haven't been able to find good documentation on the <Directory proxy:*> directive. Many thanks in advance. -- Paul

LocalFS Security Question
by AM 27 Oct '02

27 Oct '02

Hi, I have a LocalFS whose view settings are set to allow only manager to see them. Now I have a page that has direct links to the contents of the LocalFS (I contains images videos and soudn files only). Even though I set up that page to have a proxy as manager, I get a forbidden error when I click on any of those links. What I actually want is that 1. The LocalFS File listing is not visible to the users. 2. Nobody should be able to jus type in a URL and have direct access to my resource without going through a accept license page. How do I do what I want??
