What you should do, IMHO, is to return values from the script to the caller (probably a DTML document or method, in this case), and then that caller can handle any further calls to other dtml methods. This approach keeps Python processing separate from dtml processing, which is GOOD. Mixing them up tends to lead to later confusion or obscure problems. It could (potentially at least) also cause unreleased resources, possibly leading to long-term memory leaks. For example, if you use a Python script to compute parameters for a database query, do not call a zsql method from the script. Instead, return the parameters to the calling dtml document and call the zsql method from the document instead. Cheers, Tom P

Where to start using CMF?

Hi, can anyone help me how to start customizing CMF. I must say, I don't really like its design. So, I'm looking for customizing the whole design and plucking essential components inside, such as discussion, news, etc. But it is quite confusing on how each components work together in CMF. There are also different portal types. I know I need to start in "portal_skins". But after I customize the first page and click on "news", the design changes totally. Python script and proxy roles

Hi I have problems when I try to run a script with proxy roles as Manager. It's working just fine when I am a Manager but when I log in as a member it will not work. Is the proxy roles just work in that folder? I use zope 2.5.1, CMF 1.3 and Plone 1.0a1. The script is copying a folder in a parent folder. Where to store global Property - Incremental ID / Counter

Newbie looking for sage wisdom on Creating Sequentially Id'ed objects. I have a ZClass, instances of which will be created in a single Folder, not throughout the ZopeObject heirarchy. When creating a new instance, I would like to assign the id in sequential fashion, similar to take-a-number queing at the Deli counter. . . . now serving number 1023 I see two ways of doing this: a) have the add method query the folder and find the highest numbered id ZclassIntanceObject, add one to that value and make that the id of the next ZClass instance. b) Create a 'global' property - lastnumberused. Have the add method query this property and ... Which is the better method via Zope? a) which requires calculations max( container.objectItems() ) - considering there may be thousands of Zclass instances in this folder. b) a property where to put it - on the container of the instances, or on the parent ZClass? garbage collection - (I've heard something about zope creating but not disposing of instances each time a property is updated - a la FScounter - but have no background to discern if this problem applies to my situation) Suggestions?

PropertySheet, selection, and values ...

Hello ! I'm having a problem with the "selection" type in a PropertySheet of a zClass i'd like the selection to do something like : <option value="xxx">BLABLA YYY</option> but i can't make it work it keeps writing : <option>BLABLA YYY</option> the value is returned by a script, and i tried to return a dictionari instead of a list but it doesn't work (keyError : 0) ... is there any solution ? CMF: SMTPRecipientsRefused

While trying to use the "I've forgotten my password" page, it generates this error, SMTPRecipientsRefused Other mail from the system, using the same mailhost works just fine. I've checked to make sure that the portal has a top level property for email_from_address and it does. I see a connection to the mail server in the maillog. I *am* using an exUserFolder pointed at a postgresql database. Any ideas about. -- Bryan C. ZPT & passing around options...

Hello All... I have a problem that I haven't found a 'good' solution for. I use what I cann RPZN (Reverse Polish Zope Notation) when developing sites. RPZN is where you use one master template index_html in the root of your zope install. Thist master index_html file provides the layout for the entire site and includes (in my case) at least one reference like this: <div tal:content="structure here/content" class="content"> Content </div> This way each folder you create needs to only have a 'content' object (either a file, DTML Method or Document), which includes only the content for that folder. This makes adding to the site really easy. Want more content, add a folder, create a 'content' object and fill it in. The entire site look'n'feel is maintained in one place and that's /index_html. This has worked great for some time, until now. :-( Because of my design, in a Python script I need to call something like: return container.content(variable1="sometxt", var2=["text1","text2"]) This ends up calling the local content, without the surrounding site look'n'feel, <html> tags ... and the rest ... which is bad ... And ... calling index_html like so: return container.index_html(variable1="sometxt", var2=["text1","text2"]) (line may be wrapped) works fine wrt the site loook'n'feel and structure and all ... but the variables I pass into index_html get passed to the local content object, which is what I need to do. Anyone know how to do this? I spent some time looking around and I couldn't find an answer. Help! Thanks in advance ... I'd be happy to clarify anything above if it helps. --EAM

Is it possible to pass output from tinytables to a zsql method?

Hi there, For a couple of days a try to pass output from a tinytable to a zsql method without any success because the variables exist only during the looping... Tinytable: name: contents columns: content begin_art end_art Looping: <dtml-in contents> <a href=wet_query><dtml-var content> <dtml-var begin_art> <dtml-var eind_art></a><BR> </dtml-in> Zsql method: wet_query select * from <dtml-var id> where artnr >= <dtml-sqlvar begin_art type="string"> and artnr <= <dtml-sqlvar end_art type="string"> Does someone know how i can pass <dtml-var begin_art> and <dtml-var end_art> to the zsql method? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Renier
