Re: [Zope] Syntax highlighting editor for Zope
by Ben Avery 07 Aug '02

JL, vim stands for Vi IMproved, and does have the usual vi workings, which are a nightmare at first, but you can also use 'windows' style ctrl+arrows, ctrl-C, ctrl-V copying/pasting etc, and is really easy to use. But to use it with Zope, you also have to install the ExternalEditor product on your Zope server, and the 'helper' application for windows, and follow the instructions to set it up, so it will start whenever you open things from the ZMI with with new 'pencil' icon. hope this helps, Ben Jaroslav Lukesh wrote: >| Odesílatel: Ben Avery <ben(a)thesite.org> >| yeah, I use Vim, which has syntax highlighting for just about >| everything, including Python and DTML > >Yeahhhh...... Use of Zope
by Jim Kutter 07 Aug '02

07 Aug '02

I was curious to see what everyone is using zope for. I would love to take a quick survey and see who is using Zope and why? I'll start it off. I'm using Zope for my company's website, and I chose it beause it was the cheapest solution, and it did everything we needed (templates, mysql integration, remote management, and fantastic code re-use possibilities) -jim

Zope context
by Bo M. Maryniuck 07 Aug '02

07 Aug '02

Hello, all. Somebody know how to get a Zope Context within Zope Product or External Method? For example, I have an object (e.g. DTML Method) somewhere in Zope, called as "MyObject". It's might be accessed: http://www.myhost.com/test/MyObject The problem is, that External Method like this works O.K.: [test.py (External Method)] --------8<---------- def foo(self): return self.test.MyObject() --------8<---------- ...but *within a class* -- not: [test.py (External Method)] --------8<---------- class bar: def spam(self): return self.test.MyObject() def foo(self): b = bar() return b.spam() --------8<---------- ...because I need a context, like: return context.test.MyObject() ...but I still can't find how to get it. ;-( Thank you much. -- Sincerely yours, Bogdan M. LDAPUserFolder Problems
by Philip Jackson 07 Aug '02

07 Aug '02

Dear All, This is my first posting so if I have the wrong list please point me in the correct direction! We have installed the LDAPUserfolder Product in Zope and after much trial and error got it to work. We want to be able to produce a login page that authenticates to our directory and then depending on the user name re-directs the user to their own set of web page content, a bit like a portal. Our dtml scripting is basic so we are just using what we can find and experimenting with that. We are curious as to how we can achieve this. We have used the experimental login.dtml that came with LDAPUserfolder but it just returns you to the index_html file in root. Any help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks, Philip.

Oooops!!! I finallly found a solution modifying something in ZopeLabs: Generating a downloadable file http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/990792795 Gari I wrote: >Hi! > >I'm using a DTML method to get an XML view from a ZClass object. > >What I'm trying to do, is that when the user requests the address: > >http://www.mysite.com/Objects/MyObject/xml > >he/she gets an xml file with the ID MyObject.xml so that he can save it >cleanly in his filesystem (or open it with his browser), so that he/she >doesn't end up having thousands of files called simply 'xml'. _________________________________________ Garikoitz Araolaza gari(a)eibar.org

Re: [Zope] keeping track of logged in users
by Mario Bianchi 07 Aug '02

> > >> Also, how does Zope keep track of the users currently logged in? > >It doesn't. From the server perspective there is no such thing as "being >logged in" in HTTP. The browser sends authorization information with >each and every request once you entered the details and they are checked >by the server for every request. > >The illusion of "being logged in" is just an effect of your browser >remembering username and password and sending them again without further >bothering you to re-enter them. > > Jo. Jo, I know HTTP lacks the concept of session and thus the concept of 'being logged in'. This means that some way we have to store on the client side some sort of authentication information and send it back to the server with the HTTP request. Anyway, in my opinion it's not necessary to send username and password with the request every time: the authentication information could be any sort of identifier, tied on the server side with the real username and password (which have to be provided with the first request, of course). Moreover, though HTTP is sessionless Zope could be not, in the sense that (using some sort of client-side storage like cookies, hidden form fields, whatever) it could have built-in the concept of 'logged in user' somehow: are you sure it doesn't? That would mean that Zope is not stateful with respect to the users. Thanks for your help.
